As the clock strikes 12pm,the masses await an announcement, not from Pope Benedict but from The Ante-Post King himself! The Ayr Gold Cup has long since been a favourite race of mine and in the last 10 years i have been "Lucky" enough to have made a profit on the race 8 times and have backed the winner 7 times! After much cogitation i believe this years winner is
Striking Spirit
at 25/1 with Ladbrokes! There has been no divine inspiration in my selection other than the ground has unbelieveably remained good!
Striking spirit is a horse who"s career i have watched carefully,he hates soft ground but when he gets his ground he can move,he was laid out for this years Wokingham and only a better handicapped better laid out horse beat him in Laddies Poker two! Victoire de Lyphar has got to be bang there alongside Genki and Evens and Odds! Watch Striking get backed on course late,so long as the rain doesn"t arrive, otherwise if it did turn Soft now then Redford would have been my selection! Good luck all!September 18, 2010 at 11:43 #318084Good luck with your selection for today Ayr Gold Cup , I have sneaky feeling irish raider will win today. So i have backed Kaldoun Kingdom and Knot in the Wood.
September 18, 2010 at 12:16 #318085It’s Victoire De Lyphar for me.
Dangers are Poet’s Place – Jonny Mudball – Genki.September 18, 2010 at 12:41 #318090I’ve backed the Irish horse. May not be good enough, but his finishing speed [albeit against donkeys!]is something else. Win or lose, a fascinating horse.

September 18, 2010 at 14:50 #318111Well done to anyone who found the horse Frankie Dettori was given

Just kidding, just sour grapes I guess. Noverre To Go fell out the back and Kaldoun Kingdom gave a decent show in 7th.
Congrats to Redford backers

September 18, 2010 at 14:52 #318113"The Dandy Nicholls Ayr Gold Cup" will have the Sprint King in a quandary! He will run
Evens and Odds
and
Victoire de Lyphar
for sure but he also has Tajneed,Striking Spirit and Redford as possibles. Tajneed loves soft ground and Ripon and has gone up a full 14lb after winning twice at his favourite course,Striking Spirit loves to hear his feet rattle and is also guaranteed a run.
Redford
however has come down the handicap and is currently sitting on a mark of 97,which in my opinion is going to be very close to bottom weight,if Dandy rates this fellow as having a very real chance he may have to take one of the other 2 out to ensure a run,Dandy never one for telling you the real time of day will know some of us have set our watches accordingly as Redford certainly is just the sort of horse who will respond to Dandys magic wand! Fascinating race this one!

"And the quote of the year goes to yours truly" Another profitable result for the 2 Kings of racing!

September 18, 2010 at 15:06 #318116Funnily enough, as the winner started at 14/1, the King would have made an easy profit if he’d backed all 11 Mr W so steady on a little.
September 18, 2010 at 15:42 #318124Why oh why do some members this Forum have to be so snide & petty point scoring? There are some really good meaningful threads on the Forum, but they are undermined by all this tit for tat back biting.

I got 19"s on the machine Mr W,most on here know i dont need to justify my honesty and credibility but just for you yet again, read the above carefully and learn why i am well named!
September 18, 2010 at 17:14 #318138Even though you never once said you backed him pre-race and insisted you’d only back him if the going were soft…
Sorry, Gord, but the after-timing here reeks.
September 18, 2010 at 17:52 #318144Gordon you are mad i asked you your number one tip for today you said Striking Spirit. it does not matter if you said Redford a few days ago i asked for your tip it was SS.And it got stuffed to.

No problem Zarkava, but my After-timing still makes quality reading! For the record i ended up backing 5 horses
1st
2nd
4th
16th and 18th! all e/w and all at double figure prices! I"m in profit for the 9th time in 11yrs on my fav Sprint! Like i said from the start of this thread it was going to test me but like a true leader i lead by example
September 18, 2010 at 18:44 #318151Sorry, TAPK … but making "positive noises" about a dozen runners and then cherry picking the appropriate comment post race is a tad cheeky … having said that, I guess if it was genuinely considered after timing you’d have received the full wrath of AJ by now … ssssshhh, looks like you got away with it
