the (heavy) rain forecast for Saturday puts me off Genki – his trainer has said he can’t handle ground that is loose on top, which is the default going at ayr anyway, and that allied to his back problem may be enough to see him unplaced (cue hosing up).
Kaldoun Kingdom will be a huge price, just need to cover another one, (small a/p bet on Prime Exhibit i’d forgotten about actually), so am open to persuasion for this carnage race

Wat a strange prep for such a big race Poet’s Place has had. Damned if I can understand the logic in running him 7 days before this unless they thought he wasn’t good enough then changed their minds after he won at Donny.
Have to respect anything Dandy Nichols runs but I can’t understand Frankie taking a mount that appears to be a miler. Very odd especially when his worst performace of his life came over 6f, Surely even their combined talents can’t get that thing to win?
Not a race to find the winner by using a pin. Use a porcupine and you might get one that runs into a place.
One who might run better than the price suggests is Damika drawn in the centre.
Damika ran a decent race when beaten by Poet’s Place and is a massive 11 lbs better off for 4 lengths. He went on to win the Great St Wilfrid then ran well down the fiel in a much lesser race at Doncaster.
Big ask to win 2 sprint handicaps but the price avaiailable hardly represents his chance if he turns up in the same form as he did at Ripon.
Starting at the top and working down Johnny Mudball stopped me dead and looks the best of the top weights. As it is a tight handicap that’s where I’m looking for the winner.
He’s got bags of ability, he’s consistant and hasn’t run for 6 weeks, Defo looks to have been laid out specifically for this.
Johnny Mudball EW for me and a saver on Damika.

Had Poet’s Place not won the Portland he might not have made into the Gold Cup proper – there are 5 horses off his pre-Donny rating running in the consolation.
Take the hint!
September 16, 2010 at 20:02 #317860Where have i stated i have backed 12 horses for this years Ayr Gold Cup???????? I have had a tenner on Advanced at 42 and he has missed the cut,he will win the Silver Cup instead,i have had £20 e/w on
Victoire de Lyphar
at 16/1, £15 e/w on
Genki
at 16/1 and a tenner e/w on
Evens and Odds
at 20/1 thats it for now! If the ground comes up Soft i will lump on
Redford
too! I haven"t had a penny on Poets Place,Johnny Mudball,Hawkeyethenoo or Striking spirit and i am convinced Tajneed is too high in the handicap! My one selection will appear here on Saturday!
September 16, 2010 at 20:43 #317863I have no forecast rain for Saturday. Where you see that?
Two for me. One from either side.
Noverre To Go
(9) ew @ 25/1 (5 places)
Ross Atkinson taking 5 off his back means hes down to below his last winning mark when he beat the G2 placing Himalya at Newmarket. I can’t work out why hes such a big price. Its eerie..
Kaldoun Kingdom
(20) ew @ 25/1 (5 places)
Ran a brilliant race at York in July. He’s 2/3 at Ayr and is certainly better than his Stewards Cup run. He goes on any ground and looks to have a decent chance with the Biscuit on board.
I’d like
Parisian Pyramid
and
Prime Exhibit
(both 33/1) to run well. Likeable horses IMO. Maybe even bets at those prices

Noverre To Go – 20/1 each-way
September 16, 2010 at 22:39 #317891Yeah I’ve had a quick flick through the trends and they highlighted 5 horses – Quest For Success, Damien, Striking Spirit, Noverre To Go and Arganil. I’ve done the latter 2 for £2.50 each as I don’t think the former 3 are good enough based on their previous handicap runs. Plus Damien’s a dog. It’s a silly race really, but best of luck to those who take it seriously

Gordon – Redford is a dog of the highest order.
But soft ground over a stiff 6f like Ayr with Nicholls training him and you might possibly be onto something, but only very possibly.

Gotcha and thanks Reet I didn’t realise that which puts a somewhat differnt refection on the race.
Can’t quite understand why every horse I put on here gets slashed within hours or AP’s backed off the boards the otherday now Johnny boy has gone from 14/1 to 9/1.
I think it’s that Ginger he’s worth fortunes you know

Currently available at 4/1 as I type I’m backing Tale Untold today and if he wins, Sorry! when it wins
I’ll have a bet on Poet’s Place as well..Who needs TV when we can sit back and watch Hannon’s horse get back off the boards?

Jimmy Styles
(33/1) looks to have been aimed at this race and
Signor Peltro
(20/1) should get the strong pace he craves from a high draw.
September 17, 2010 at 20:10 #317979Forget the draw bias – it’s Rileys for me – 1 bet last night ‘on the nose’ and just had an e/w (1st 5) at 25s.
Good luck all.

Zarkava
I have backed Redford to and you heard of this saying every dog has his day and tomorrow it could be the day for Redford

Smashed into this Victoire De Lyphar, put it up as one to follow after his win at Doncaster and has done me proud since, can’t look past this potential Group winner in the future.

Im with you Mr. Wilson. group horse in the making. still young, learning all the time.
I’m also interested in Arganil at big prices. Its dropped to a mark of 96, last year running a respectable 13th in last years race off a mark of 103.Previous run at Donny off 96 in the Portland behind Poets Place, Bajan Tryst, Tiddlewinks, Deacon Blues and Bay Knight.Beaton by only 2 and a half lengths. Won’t mind the ground. The biggest problem is the draw (2). But with prices of 66/1 available, I’ll definately be taking the chance.

Arganil is a really solid 5f type who has run a few smart sorts ragged on the AW, I think the trainer was even going to aim for the Group 1 Golden Shaeen with him at one point!
You have to question his ability to get 6f especially as you have to let him go off in front but they tried restraining him last time out which looked to work wonders and saw out the trip pretty well in truth although you really do need a strong staying 7f sort or something like Arganil that’s going to run on strongly past beaten horses who’ve contested too much of the running.
You might have a good chance here mate, I wish you well good luck!
September 18, 2010 at 10:19 #318054Tajneed, Hitchens, or Castles In The Air for me, I’ll probably wait till shortly before the race. I could spend all morning looking at it, and could make a case for the majority of them. I love and hate these big sprints.
Good luck all.
September 18, 2010 at 10:54 #318069Hi all, just made my first post on Silver Cup Link.
I tend to concentrate on sprint races and do this just for fun.
Read all the posts and I like the ‘friendly’ banter.
My view on the biggie:
Poets Place…prefers more cut…only beat Bajan Tryst Bajan Tryst 1/2 length in Portland….draw a concern.
Redford….interested in how Something runs in the Silver Cup…jury out but may not have enough speed
Noverre to go………..Good claimer means running off pound below last winning mark= e/w chance…good draw but may be caught late on
Signor Peltro……….been waiting for a very fast 6f/7f race for this horse……..finish fast but maybe 1/2 pounds too high to win
Victoire de Lyphard….improved 6lbs for every race but biggest task to date……….
I know I have stated most of obvious contenders as this is a tight race….. so I will go each way with Noverre to Go……….I will not bet on this race as I have ‘Something’ else to put my cash on
Speak again and good luck to everyone….
