Give Rafa his dues – he was struggling in that third set, but take nothing away from Murray, who was superb. A place in the final beckons for the Scotsman, as I can’t see him losing to Cilic on this form.
My only financial interest is Davydenko, but I’d be very happy to see Andy win, all the same.

With bets on Marin Cilic at 53/1 and greater, I’m afraid I won’t be supporting Andy Murray’s quest for Australian Open glory. He certainly goes in to their semi-final the fresher player though, having faced no-one of note until Rafael Nadal this morning; four easy three-set games and a retirement are certainly preferable to two consecutive five-set marathons against the fourth and seventh seeds.
The enigmatic Russian remains by far my biggest interest – a meeting between he and the gangly Croat would certainly make my weekend – and if he’s over yesterday’s exertions he could plough through Roger Federer without so much as a second thought. If he (Davydenko) starts positively and doesn’t allow his opponent time to settle inside the baseline, he’ll win. And what does he have to fear from either Djokovic or Tsonga? Absolutely nothing.
Cilic vs Davydenko final here we come!

Great bet with Cilic at 53’s & still playing well. Congratulations to Murray & in beating Nadal, although he retired.
Maybe Murray is ready to win his first grand slam after all, although I didn’t fancy him at the start of the tournament.

January 26, 2010 at 15:42 #272168I maintain that Roger Federer is the man to beat. If he brings anything approaching his "A" game to the proceedings, the rest may as well stay at home.

If he’s on his a game then yes, but he’s still got to get past a determined Davydenko & Murray playing awesome tennis as well, so it still wide open

January 27, 2010 at 00:47 #272301Just looking at Cilic’s path to the Semi’s and your 53’s and above turns out to be incredible value and a great spot, MG.
O.K., he’ll need a big slice of luck and to play out of his skin to win it from here, but his path to the semi’s was always going to be about his match with Del Potro, and so effectively you got 53’s in a four match quest for glory, where he’d be favourite in my book in one of those (Roddick), making it THREE!
It could be argued that he faced a possibly hindered Del Potro in the 4th round, but he’d always be favourite to beat Roddick if he negotiated that one.
I don’t know if you imagined it might turn out this way with all the variable results, but he was most certainly over priced to begin with.
Murray’s should beat him in this form, but he’s never a 1/4 chance. Might have a little saver on Cilic to beat Murray to make it win-win game, sort of.
Andys mother continues to keep the cringe factor in the high nineties, but it may just be me….

Andy Murray’s mother is the main reason I can’t stand to see him win.
Davydenko was ultimately disappointing having led 6-2 and 3-1 in the second set, though he can’t have been amused by Federer’s leisurely toilet break. Once he lost the second he was all but finished, only deciding to try and make a game of it in the fourth.
He’s obviously still struggling mentally, but what more motivation do you need than being a set and a break up on Roger Federer in a grand slam quarter-final?
January 27, 2010 at 17:08 #272381She doesn’t bother me either way, although I get your point at the his mother.
I think Cilic has a chance but has had to get through two five set matches, where as Murray has had a much smoother path & should be fitter & I think that’s reflected in his book price.
I honestly didn’t fancy Murray at the start of the tournament, but maybe could be embarrassingly the first british male player to win a grand slam in seventy four years.

So who do think will win the final – Federer ?

January 28, 2010 at 18:07 #272562Of the three left, Murray has been easily the most impressive.
Whether he can handle the pressure of the situation against, say, Federer in the final is another question. Tsonga will be no push over and I actually think he’ll serve it up to Fed handing Murray a gimme for his first slam title – and he’ll take it. Simple

Yes !
As I said in an earlier post, Federer is the best tennis player ever, in my opinion – therefore, assuming he gets through against the unpredictable Tsonga, and plays to his capabilities against Murray, then naturally I expect him to win.

Wont be a patch on Rhona Martins’ 2002 Olympic Curling triumph, though. "Hurr-eeeeeeeeee!….".
Seriously – it was moving.
January 29, 2010 at 02:24 #272634I’d give anything to see Roger stop Murray in the final, anything. I’m a huge Federer fan anyway, but I can’t take to Murray in anyway what whatsoever.
Tennis = Boring
Personality = Boring
Media Coverage As A Result = Even More BoringThe BBC will be all over Murray again, and I hope the awful organisation get left with grave disappointment yet again.
January 29, 2010 at 07:52 #272645and a Merry christmas to you, jose!
C’mon Murray roll over the Swiss (or Tsonga)
