I sincerely hope not. It would be against the current trend!
But what is it that’s really going on here? It seems to me that Ascot holds such a high opinion of itself as a product that it is prepared to go it alone, believing it can extract more money from various forms of media that way. Its ultimate goal may not to be with either RUK or ATR but to be AscotTV. This would weaken the specialist broadcasters, cost us consumers and set a dangerous precedent. It would be like Man Utd or whoever negotiating a separate rights deal. Premier League rules prevent this, however, there is nothing to stop it in racing as far as I’m aware.
Rather than getting into a bidding war for the pay TV rights in March 2019, ATR and RUK should tell Ascot it is overvaluing itself, that strength lies in the collective, and refuse to pay.
February 2, 2018 at 16:30 #1340334GoldenMIller – should UK racing have packages like football, I am surprised the two channels have never been investigated by monoplies as no other channel can get the rights to any course espcially the Jockey Club ones.
Maybe they need looking into.
February 2, 2018 at 17:12 #1340343The problem is that all racecourses are not under the same umbrella like football clubs in a league are. If they were I would dislike racing being split up into packages like football. It would bound to cost more than now, with multiple subscriptions required, to watch all you wanted to.
As it currently stands I find it value to pay £25 per month for RUK while being able to watch all the replays for free on the ATR site, soon after the race has been run if desired, plus a bit of free terrestrial coverage too.
In an ideal world all UK racing would be on RUK1 with Irish and all other international racing on RUK2. I’d go as far as paying £35 per month for that.
February 2, 2018 at 17:15 #1340345£35, so £10 for the Irish stuff essentially? Rather than have it for free with perfectly good Ire pundits now?

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!February 2, 2018 at 18:37 #1340357No, I said ALL UK racing so £10 for the Irish plus the smaller tracks but the good Jumps races at Doncaster, Chepstow, Uttoxeter and Newcastle without having to endure snippets of ITV.
How is it you get RUK for a tenner, Jack?
