The top geezer in the Scottish parliament says "he will be supporting anyone who plays against England during the world cup", and Andy Mc Murry, says "come on Trinidad and Tobago".

Why can’t you Jocks (and there are plenty of you in this particular forum) support your neighbours?
Okay, I know you feel inferior about the English, what with us being better than you at sport and so forth, but come on!
McMurry will accept all the support he can get from the English whilst he’s at Wimbledon, (that BTW is the biggest tennis tournament on the planet, and is in England, not Scotland), and yet can’t give any support back. A bit hypercritical me thinks.
All you ever get back from the Scots about this topic is that we have been going on about it for 40 years? I think that after winning nothing for 40 years, the bragging rights have stopped. But then again the Scots have never even won a world cup in any sport besides throwing stones down a bit of ice. Or was that the olympics?
Come on you skirt wearing folk!
Its time to move on and start supporting a winning nation. (Still rugby’s world champions BTW)
Hoot’s Man!
Support your neighbours, or support nothing!
Whats it to be?
May 30, 2006 at 21:54 #100366lolly, I don’t know why it should worry you that the non English aren’t supporting England, I couldn’t care less as long as England don’t win it and that’s nothing to do with English people in general, I’m proud to be Scottish & British (Scotbrit as I call it)

Why don’t the English support the French at sport? They’re neighbours
Okay, I know you feel inferior about the English, what with us being better than you at sport and so forth, but come on!
By your logic, it must be because you feel inferior to the French.
However … given …
– they eat better food than you
- they have better looking women
- they have better weather
- they’ve won 2 major football tournaments in the last 10 years
- they’re not trapped in an expensive losing war in Iraq
(and so on )
maybe you are.
I hate to disappoint you LM, but if I was going to feel "inferior" to another nation, there would be plenty of countries in the queue before England.
And that includes Sweden and Holland, which are both neighbours of ours too!

May 31, 2006 at 05:18 #100371The Scottish are Institutionally Rascist, but only against the English. So much for their anti-smoking, Cool Britannia, Pro-immigration, Politically Correct Bull-$h*t .. at the end of it all they are just a load of bigots !!

May 31, 2006 at 17:07 #100375If France were playing Japan for example, I would support the nearest team to my home. (I think that would be France). I have witnessed England playing New Zealand at Twickenham, and a Scotsman supporting the All Blacks. (England won the match, in case you’re interested)
But to get to France, I need to cross the channel, and need a passport. To get into Scotland I do not!
Stevedvg.
Do some geography. Scotland isn’t next door to Sweden or Holland. And why bring up the war?
I do detect a sense of bitterness.
Could this be because your economy relies upon the English so much? Or is it simply that England is historically better at sport than Scotland?
OH! Twister.
Being "forced out" not chased! (As your chummy Analandy says; Get over it pal! That argument has finished! You said you were wrong, so get over it!)
Jim.
Imagine Blair saying "I hope McMurry looses his first qualifying game for Wimbledon. COME ON HEWITT". I’m sure that would be okay.
May 31, 2006 at 17:21 #100376We don’t feel inferior, quite the reverse in fact.
We do feel frustrated that our country has never realised the benefits of its resources (oil, coal, hydro electric, etc). Those benefits, which belong to the people of Scotland, have been, by and large, siphoned away by the predominantly English parliament while large areas of Scotland still suffer from appalling poverty.
Scotland should have followed the Irish lead and got rid of English rule by fair means or foul generations ago.
England is a struggling entity, becoming ever more so. Its colonial base has all but disappeared and with it much of its wealth creating ability. With little or no resource of its own, once it’s used up ours it’ll wilt and disappear down the world order, a slide that is already well under way.
As for the English people themselves, I have many fine friends who are English and have no argument with any individual English person, my beef being with the ruling powers.
The nation of England should sit back and wonder why it is despised, as a nation not individuals, by almost all its neighbours. The Scots, the Irish, the Welsh, The French, The Germans.
Contrast that to the Scottish nation who are welcomed wherever we go, even, generally, in England!
As for the World Cup, my main problem is with the jingoism it seems to stir up in the English psyche, media fuelled admittedly.
England have some decent players but are not one of teh top six sides in teh world. They will be very fortunate to get beyond teh quarter finals.
God help us all if they win the effing thing because they will be unbearable, which is why I hope they don’t.
May 31, 2006 at 17:57 #100378England’s continuing demise is partly because our government consists of too many Scots.
May 31, 2006 at 21:54 #100379Point taken GH – My frustration at the situation it finds itself in does indeed extend to a realisation that much of it is our own fault. However, the readiness of the English parliament to tirelessly exploit Scotland, for both economic and political reasons, is a trait I find less than endearing.
June 1, 2006 at 12:39 #100381‘mon the Paraguay
June 1, 2006 at 13:10 #100383I got no problem with the Scottish people wanting to see England lose whenever they play.
Nor do I blame them for holding a grudge against the English for past events.
What I do have a problem with is that miserable tw@t Andy Murray.
He can openly state that he’ll be cheering for T&T – no qualms there.
However re: his comments last year (or possibly the previous year, can’t remember) when the media declared him as ‘British teenager Andy Murray’ only for him to turn around and say ‘I’m not British, I’m Scottish’.
Well **** him and for the first time ever I’m tempted to spend a day at SW19.
June 1, 2006 at 18:53 #100385Do some geography. Scotland isn’t next door to Sweden or Holland.
I never said "next door", I said they were neighbours.
Someone who lives 2 doors away is still a neighbour.
Both Sweden and Holland can be reached in a short, straight line from Scotland (without having to go through another country) – as you will know, as you seem to be an expert in geography.
So, they are northern european neighbours of ours and they’re both in the WC (unlike other neighbours such as Denmark and Norway).
And why bring up the war?
I was listing some of the advantages the French have over the English.
IMO not paying many billions to fight a losing and unpopular war is a good thing.
Lucky froggy b*****d

June 3, 2006 at 03:02 #100388I AM SICK OF ALL THE TWO FACED SOTS WHO THINK THEY ARE LIVEING IN THE TIMES OF BONNIE PRINCE CHARLIE AND SHOULD HATE ENGLAND . I AM FROM SOUTH YORKSHIRE WERE WE HAVE OUR FARE SHARE OF SCOTS WHO WORKED DOWN THE PITS & OTHER JOBS BUT THEY STILL CARP ON HOW GOOD IT IS IN SCOTLAND WHY DONT THEY GO BACK IF THEY DONT LIKE IT HERE

Have you ever walked into your so called neighbours without a passport?
I think you haven’t. Thats the geography explained.
Us English pay many billions to keep your lot going. You aren’t to bothered about that one, eh!
Lollys mate – you have to understand that this is strictly a football thing. I was quite happy to cheer on the English cricket team in the Ashes
Its not just football!
Steves little rant proves that one.
Given that I am fed a constant media diet of how England are world-beaters,
This is going to hurt me, but I have to agree with you on that one. I’m acctually waiting to see how long it takes for all the flags that people in London have clipped to their cars to be removed when England lose their next match. Should be quite funny.
Contrast that to the Scottish nation who are welcomed wherever we go, even, generally, in England!
YEAH!
You find a jock in every shop front down Oxford Street, every night, with a dirty blanket, scabby dog and empty cans of Tennents Extra. Most welcome.
We still need to get to the real point here though. How far back does this hatred really go?
