Ballyburn clearly has to be respected but taken 11/1 against L’Eau Du Sud. I thought he was good at Cheltenham last week.
November 24, 2024 at 18:32 #1713959Firefox 8-1 ew as mentioned previously. I am wishing Ballyburn goes up in trip, having said that, wouldn’t overly worry about it if he didn’t. Kauto Star and Best Mate never won an Arkle and ended up Gold Cup legends. And Firefox has always looked a chaser so hoping he continues to progress.
December 7, 2024 at 10:20 #1714869Inthepocket for me
He’ll be 8 but an unusually lightly raced 8 and this is his only possible race at Cheltenham, whereas Ballyburn and Sir Gino have options.
He looked class at WexfordDecember 15, 2024 at 19:45 #1715534I agree Mark, and I’ve taken 8-1 too
December 20, 2024 at 13:53 #1715749It’s For Me 25-1
Got his entry for a beginners at Leopardstown and he got a good mention in the stable tour. Got the size and the engine, if he can stay sound I hope he can be good over fences.
December 27, 2024 at 14:21 #1716581According to Oddschecker, it is 5/4 Sir Gino with Bet MGM.
I wonder how much those shysters have actually laid it for at that price?
December 28, 2024 at 10:35 #1716737When you compare the time of Sir Gino 3 minutes 48 with that of the Desert Orchid Chase 3 minutes 51.73 then Sir Gino would have finished around 25 lenths clear of Edwardstone. When you look at how far Jonbon has beaten Edwardstone in their many meetings the winning distances range from 2 lengths to 10 lengths. Then you look at how far Sir Gino beat Ballyburn 7 lengths who gave him 6 pounds this makes interesting reading come Cheltenham. On yesterdays run Ballyburn using Edwardstone as a guide is better over 2 miles than Jonbon and Sir Gino is much better than Jonbon over 2 miles. If Willie Mullins entered Ballyburn in the Champion Chase I could see him winning it. This would cause a problem for Nicky Henderson as he has the fav for the Arkle and the Champion Chase. If Ballyburn is entered for the Champion Chase then Henderson may switch Sir Gino to the Champion Chase and Jonbon to the Ryanair. Masterminded won the champion chase as a 5 year old and I think the skys the limit for Sir Gino, he could probably win the Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase, The Arkle or the Ryanair. It will be interesting to see where these horses are entered at Cheltenham.
December 28, 2024 at 11:02 #1716741I’d say that yesterday’s race pretty much guarantees that if Ballyburn runs at Cheltenham, it’ll be the Brown Advisory
He’s developing into a stayer, as his pedigree would suggest
He looked like the younger horse alongside Sir Gino yesterday
December 28, 2024 at 12:55 #1716777I can only see Sir Gino being in the Arkle it is the route Henderson is bound to take unless Constitution Hill doesn’t show up.
The more I know the less I understand.
January 21, 2025 at 18:23 #1718582According to the Post, Sir Gino is following the route taken by both Sprinter Sacre and Altior, and going for the Game Spirit next.
If he wins that race as impressively as his illustrious predecessors did, he’ll be prohibitive odds for the Arkle.
January 21, 2025 at 22:14 #1718585In the Wayward Lad Sir Gino (10st 12lbs) was getting 6 lbs from Ballyburn (11st 4lbs). The 6 lbs is quite generous when thinking that in under 3 months the 5 year old will be getting no weight allowance from his elders in the Arkle. However, Sir Gino won impressively in a fast time and I cannot see Ballyburn turning the tables. It’s probable Ballyburn will be in the Brown Advisory provided he does not pull too hard over 2m5f in the Grade 1 Novice at the Dublin Festival.
Yes, Sir Gino’s performance was exceptional for a novice, even more so as it was his chase debut. But on a strict lbs per length analysis… As it stands it’s still around the same standard as Edwardstone. When taking into account the latter carrying 11st 12lbs in the Desert Orchid…
That’s 8 lbs MORE than Ballyburn who was BEATEN 7 1/2 LENGTHS by Sir Gino, who also had the advantage of a generous 4yo allowance.
Edwardstone’s performance in the Desert Orchid was still pretty good, beaten 3 1/2 lengths trying to give the winner – 7 year old Soul Icon 20lbs. That said, Sir Gino has bags of scope to progress and can be expected to improve past Edwardstowne if they meet at Newbury; where I believe the 5yo will be in receipt of 2 lbs. I don’t see it as a formality though, especially if the 11 year old is given an attacking ride like he was given last year.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 10, 2025 at 12:57 #1720249Sir Gino out for the season
Incredibly disappointing news but why Hendo again ?
Why all his 2 mile chasers ( and the odd Champion Hurdler ) ?February 11, 2025 at 00:47 #1720324“Incredibly disappointing news but why Hendo again ?
Why all his 2 mile chasers ( and the odd Champion Hurdler ) ?”Sprinter Sacre, Altior and Shishkin all made it to the Arkle so dunno what you mean when you say why all his 2 mile chasers.
February 11, 2025 at 11:03 #1720330Vast majority of Henderson’s top horses are 2 milers.
So most of the horses getting injuries that rule them out of the Festival are bound to be 2 milers.Value Is EverythingFebruary 19, 2025 at 14:05 #1720880Firefox at 20-1 is my ew selection.
