I very rarely back ante post but have to say I am seriously temped by 8/1 with paddys on Champagne Fever. He just seems to come alive at the meeting.

September 18, 2013 at 21:29 #451725I’m not interested at that price as i think he might need further.
September 18, 2013 at 21:46 #451727Does CF definitely go fencing?
September 18, 2013 at 23:46 #451741I’d be extremely surprised if he doesn’t SC. They were contemplating sending him straight over fences last season so I doubt they’ll delay another year.

If we don’t like Champagne Fever then who do we like? Seems one of the more tricky races to bet ante-post on this year and to be honest I have no idea where to start with it.
October 9, 2013 at 09:23 #454253Mullins said after chelt this year "Next season will be all about chasing – he is electric over fences"
And the commented on 12/5/13 "He actually shcooled over fences after racing on this day last year and he flew round. By god he can jump"
So looks like he will be going chasing, which distance is the question, I think.
Personally I believe he is more likely to go the Arkle route, although in time he looks tailor-made for the Gold Cup.
Ive taken some of the 8/1 as I dont see many in the top of the market going for the race, in fact only Grandouet looks likely to me but ive heard he has unfinished business over hurdles still so even he might not be lining up.One at a bigger price that ive backed is Raya Star who is definitely going Chasing, a strongly run 2 miles over hurdles were a must to see him at his best and I believe he will out run his odds of 75/1 in the Arkle.
October 16, 2013 at 21:10 #455104The Arkle is always one of the most exciting races of the meeting for me, and the 2014 event already looks mouth-watering. Quite unlike Mullins to make such upbeat comments so CG must be well worth a bet at 8s.
I also like Chatterbox at 16s with Betvictor. His hurdles form looks solid with his only defeat being at the festival when 4th to The New One (didn’t jump fluently) and he reportedly goes fencing. His trainer believes he still has quite a bit of physical improvement in him. Also, if he doesn’t turn up, BV offers stake back as a free bet.

Thought I heard Chatterbox was staying over hurdles this year but not sure SC
October 17, 2013 at 15:34 #455184Grandouet for me. Still tanking along in the Champion hurdle before he fell, and if he takes to fences, will be a real class addition to chasing.
Champagne Fever won’t roll over lightly, but like last year, it’s anyone’s guess as to what his target at the festival will actually be.October 17, 2013 at 19:05 #455205The Arkle is always one of the most exciting races of the meeting for me, and the 2014 event already looks mouth-watering. Always possible, I suppose, although he’d be seriously limited in options given the talent of his contemporaries. Even if he goes fencing, there’s the chance he might not jump well enough to merit an Arkle entry, but at the price, and with the free bet concession, I’m happy to take the chance.
October 17, 2013 at 20:19 #455220Champagne Fever at some stage will surely need a step up in trip and i think this season might be it. 2 miles on soft / heavy might be fine but the breeding on both sides suggests that 2 1/2 miles will be a minimum. Mullins also has a poor record in the race despite some likely types.
Grandouet’s a personal favourite but does seem to have trouble completing races or staying fit. However, he’s likely to bolt in at short odds on his debut and the 10-1 will disappear so it’s a back to lay bet for me.
Chatterbox for me at the moment. Looked like a chaser in waiting last season and has a high cruising speed.
October 28, 2013 at 15:00 #456498Was quite happy with Defy Logic’s performance today at Naas. He seemed to guess at the third but he got better as the race went on. Miley Shah is a solid 130 hurdler and Defy Logic sprinted right away from him after the second last. He is a bit head strong but has a huge engine and I think he’ll take high rank among this season’s novice chasers.
October 29, 2013 at 00:09 #456614I hope you took the 8/1, you won’t get better than 6s now. I was thinking CF for the Arkle last year as he always looked a chaser. It was a massive achievement for him to have overcome fitness challenges earlier in the season and still come and see off two high class two mile hurdlers in the supreme novices. We will only see the best of CF in the next two years but I’m giddy with excitement about him jumping fences.
So far there isn’t a whole lot to take him on. Balder success clocked a serious time of 4:44 over 2m3f but came a cropper lto. If he sorts out the jumping 20/1 represents value there. Art of logistics and sizing rio would have more potential to be high class that defy logic from an Irish perspective IMO.
Melodic rendezvous is the only other option not mentioned?
November 3, 2013 at 00:06 #457150Yes I took the 8/1. I am positive they will go for the arkle and can’t wait to see champagne kick off over fences.
Having said that, looking forward to seeing grandouet jump a fence at my local track on Tuesday.

November 15, 2013 at 03:41 #458351I think 2 miles will be just fine for Champagne Fever this year. Even if he is a stayer of the future, previous winners and runners-up suggest that stamina is an advantage.
My Way De Solzen, Captain Chris, Tidal Bay, Kicking King and even Sizing Europe and Azertyuiop prove his modern trend to some degree.

Champagne Fever looked good the other day but nothing spectacular in my eyes, is there really nothing that can beat him in the Arkle? Can’t see Grandouet doing it after his race at Sandown.
Then again can’t see anything beating him before March so maybe worth backing him now and laying him when he gets to a low price in the days before the festival.
November 19, 2013 at 17:58 #459025Haven’t been overly impressed by anything i’ve seen in the UK. Doding Bullets isn’t good enough, can’t have him. Grandoeut fell, but was struggling to beat Hinterland, who is a little exposed. Balder Succes has been impressive, but probably isn’t good enough. The best performance so far is IMO TDS beating Oscar Whisky. Jumps well, gallops well and the Arkle should suit ; fast pace race where stamina is required. The ground may be an issue, of course, we shall see.
