Yes agreed but that’s UK good to soft
I’m expecting the ground to be no better than "Irish" Good to Soft or probably softerThere was one year it was very heavy for The Festival ….late 70s/early 80s ?? Maybe. I wish my memory was better
Can anyone recall if that co-incided with heavy snow that winter
February 12, 2010 at 11:42 #275803Captain Cee Bee has some peerless attributes as you state shaund…but he is also a known bleeder and people are concerned with his jumping so this also is factored into the price.
A known bleeder? I thought he only broke a blood vessle once, which is rare and is not a recurring accident? Excuse me if I am wrong.
February 12, 2010 at 12:23 #275807Nicky being Nicky like only Nicky can during his interview with Sean boyce there, letting nothing out the bag,but slipping out that he is 99% certain Long Run will run in the RSA! He is just looking after the 5yo for now and thinks the 2m race tomorrow is an easier option for the welfare of the horse! That was hard work, trying to read between the lines!!
February 12, 2010 at 12:30 #275808With NH I take that to mean it’s 50/50, and can’t believe he wants to run Punchy again before the RSA!
February 12, 2010 at 12:46 #275813I have a small interest in Long run for the RSA,but it wouldn"t bother me where he runs at Cheltenham as i dont see him bothering Somersby in the Arkle anyway! I also dont think we will see the impressive performance he showed in the Feltham in tomorrows "Kingmaker" at Warwick,i believe tomorrows race will categorically prove he is a 3m+ horse! The problem is,Take the Breeze is not the ultimate test for him either, but i expect he will make all and try to test Long Runs jumping at speed! Poor Grass could end up with Long run beating Punchestowns in the RSA! OUCH! That would be a double Whammy!
February 12, 2010 at 13:37 #275829Poor Grass could end up with Long run beating Punchestowns in the RSA! OUCH! That would be a double Whammy!

Wouldn’t be the greatest outcome in the world, no.
February 12, 2010 at 14:45 #275842I would suggest that if Long Run has any chance of running in the Arkle,he will need to show "Speed" tomorrow,Take the breeze will take him along,so should enable a good gallop, what Long run needs to do is to be pulling all over him jumping the last 4 fences, then with a shake of the reins he sprints clear after the last!A performance like that would defineately have Mr Henderson thinking Arkle! Why would Nicky want Long Run to beat Punchestowns in the RSA, when he has a big chance of landing 2 of the top Grade 1 races at the festival!
Nicky is a master of the old Cloak and Dagger phiosophy!February 12, 2010 at 16:00 #275857Looks like RSA is still the target. Seems like someone has been wasting their dosh. This from RO website:
[However, Henderson said he favoured the RSA and was only running Long Run in the Kingmaker because it was an easier option at this stage of his career.Speaking on At The Races, the trainer said: "Everyone thinks this is a trial for the Arkle, but it’s 99 per cent certain he’ll run in the RSA.
"This is just an easier prep race for him. These three mile races take a lot out of any horse, let alone a five-year-old. I’m trying to look after him."
February 12, 2010 at 16:19 #275861So if Long Run hacks up tomorrow by 10L with a clean round of jumping, Mr. Henderson is "99%" sure he will step him back up in trip to contest with a stablemate at Cheltenam. Pull the other one Nicky its got bells on.
February 12, 2010 at 16:50 #275871Grass, now that would have been a fascinating side bet! You for the Arkle v Me for the RSA, tomorrow "should" confirm which race Nicky will send Long Run to contest at Cheltenham!
February 12, 2010 at 17:53 #275888Considering Henderson’s comments today, I would be looking for 99/1 in a side bet, Gord. Question is: are you prepared to lay it?
In fact, I’ll take 98/1, and let you have the value, if you like? For a friendly tenner?

You know me Grass Evens stevens is the best i offer in a match!
From an unbiased view i would still say Nicky has a sneaky feeling he could run him in the Arkle, like i say there"s a motif in his madness! I"ve never seen him as an Arkle type myself, but i have to be wrong oneday!
February 12, 2010 at 19:43 #275921I also hope it’s a lot less than 99% certain he will go to the RSA……but why would Henderson say that, if he didn’t believe it?
If he switches him into the Arkle after the Warwick race, he’s only going to get a mauling for his comments today. It makes no sense.

Grass,if Nicky changes his mind after tomorrows race he will quote himself as saying "I said that before he won like an Arkle horse,i honestly never expected him to win like that, he has got to go for the Arkle now"!! and of course the only way he will say that, is if Long Run does the business impressively! Its alright giving the old "he"s only a 5yo,i need to look after him" quotes, but he did have a triple Champion hurdle winner who was only a 5yo and there were no kid gloves for him! There will certainly be "Issues" within the yard, particularly from connections and staff who have backed Punchestowns at 14/1 if Long Run turns up for the RSA,because as long as i wear the crown, Long Run is a better 3m chaser than Punchestowns! There is of course the fact that Long run has drifted out to 14"s for the Arkle now and is a very tempting price again to fill their boots!
February 12, 2010 at 21:28 #275964Astonishing that people are backing LR for the Arkle. A 3 miler whose trainer says will go for the 3 miler at Cheltenham, and who has so little to beat over 2m this weekend that it would prove nothing, and so even if he was redirected to the Arkle we would have little idea as to whether he was really a ‘proper’ 2 miler. Even
if
he hacks up at the weekend and even
if
he did go for the Arkle I still think 8/1 would be about right. Anyone who has taken less than 16/1 for the Arkle needs their head looking at imo.
Like I said . . . .
