    Agreed, Ginge.

Admirable sort, but all this race does is highlight how much the rest have to find on Kauto and Long Run. Tidal Bay, at his very best, could easily run into a place – the formbook means nothing to this horse. He actually travelled into contention better than I have seen in a very long time and jumped as well as possible.

Let’s hope connections can find the problem(s) troubling Captain Chris. This is a seriously good animal and it would be a travesty if we never got to see the best of him. Tine For Rupert falls just shy of top class and Diamond Harry found nothing after travelling well for a long way.

One could argue that’s just him and, when push comes to shove, he just doesn’t find as much around Cheltenham as he would on a flat track. Would miss the Gold Cup in favour for Aintree, if he were mine.

A fine effort from the tough, Knockara Beau.

He’ll also have Kauto for company upfront.

They need to school Captain Chris with a horse to either side of him to make him jump in a straight line.

Yeah disappointing from Captain Chris and I’ve got misgivings about the horse for the future after that run in combination with his other runs this term. Midnight chase ran really nicely and looks right back to last years form which I doubt is good enough to land a serious blow at the festival. Tidal looked more interested here but that might just be because the race turned out to be a lot lighter contested than it seemed on paper beforehand, and tidal doesn’t like to work hard. TFR and DH probably showed all they are today.

Very good ride from Dougie Costello but he has a very willing partner, really good performance by Midnight Chase.

Very good ride from Ruby Walsh on Tidal Bay too i thought.

It’s more likely that i consensually fornicate with Scarlett Johansson than it is for Midnight Chase to be placed in a Gold Cup.

Ergo, it’s not happening in any dimension outside of my sleeptime dreams.

well done Zamorston and any other MC backers.

I’m becoming increasingly convinced that horses have little confidence with R Johnson in the saddle (I’ve mentioned this a few times in recent months)

I wonder what price RJ would be to quit at the end of the season?

Great stuff from Dougie Costello.. Took the bull by the horn threw caution to the wind and said stuff you lot I’m off. Ex ride from Ruby Tiday Bay actually looked like a racehorse for a change.

Albeit still with his head up in the clouds! You’ve got to love him, though.

Hell of a contest. Some very good animals due for this one. Midnight Chase at 8/1 is my selection.

Gonna pat myself on the back :D

Paul Nicholls suggesting the Martell Cup. No Cheltenham Gold Cup. No Grand National.

Could quite easily run into a place at Cheltenham, in my opinion. Although something tells me that Ruby won’t jump off Kauto Star.

Hard to imagine another jockey getting as much out of him as Ruby did today. Perhaps Aintree is the better option.

Surely there is EVERY CHANCE that you’ll consent to fornicate with Scarlett…it’s just unlikely you’ll get the chance!!!! :P

(However, do check out her saucy snaps on the net. I won’t post a link as they don’t like sexy wenches on here.)

As for Captain Chris, there was something seriously awry there. That wasn’t an example of bad jumping, but a physical or mental problem. Looks like he was feeling something? Spose that makes him a riskier bet next time.

Congrats to all Midnight backers – especially VTC with a very confident shout at 12’s

At first I thought this admirable beast had no chance in the big ‘un in March. Then I reasoned, what happens if Kauto doesn’t get up the hill this time (as many venerable forumites feel) and Long Run falls…couldn’t Midnight be there to pick up the pieces at a very tasty price?

Great stuff from Midnight Chase. Disappointed with Diamond Harry and TFR who looks like a slow old boat now.

As for Capt Chris, would love to know whether the fact that he never appeared in the paddock till well after all the others had gone to the start was in any way related to his subsequent performance. Scratches head.

Question, midnight chase or synchronised? Something has to finish third (gold cup) and unless quel esprit wins the Hennessy id plump for synchro.

Just watched the Arkle & then the Argento.

In the Arkle, Dickie J has Capt Chris on the outside, just like today. He jumps 3 or 4 fences to the right.

Just before the top of the hill he puts him on the inside of a couple of horses & jumps for the most part very well. Turning for home, he goes after Finian’s Rainbow & jumps the 3rd last & last slightly to the right and even hangs slightly to the right up the run-in.

I also can’t find the quote now but Dickie J said post-King George that Chris likes racing up the inside.

SO WHY PUT HIM ON THE OUTSIDE THEN?

Time for Rupert is incredibly puzzling.

Time for Rupert is incredibly crap.

    Fixed that for you

Then again, I can hardly talk. I went for Diamond Harry – who finished behind him, having looked threatening with about four to go.

What is interesting is that DH looked threatening at the same stage of the Betfair. Does anyone know what Diamond Harry needs?

So don't run, just like the others always do

Geez, are we not allowed to write c….r..a….p?

Erm, why? It’s not an offensive word FFS.

I had t…w….a…..t deleted from a post of mine a while ago and I think that word pretty tame.

We seem to be stuck in the 1920’s with the words permitted on here.
