Apples Jade worth taking on in my opinion. The ground looks really soft and very sticky today. She ran her “worst” races on this kind of ground and has another 4 furlongs to travel. I doubt she will stay 3m in today’s conditions.
December 28, 2017 at 13:44 #1334479Looks like she needed every yard of the 3m today – thought the 4 yr old Bapaume ran a screamer until getting tired on his first run of the season but the race marred by the loss of little Nichols Canyon (RIP).
With Townend’s current run of bad luck and poor race riding/judgement (Min) at the moment I wonder if Mullins will let him keep the ride on Faugheen?
December 28, 2017 at 13:57 #1334486Don’t think it would be great for the yard, if they would downgrade Paul Townend. If he losses his ride on Faugheen what other Ricci horses would he ride in the future?
December 28, 2017 at 14:04 #1334488Apart from the riding offence on Min, Townend hasn’t done anything wrong from a tactical/technical point of view.
Stick with him.
December 28, 2017 at 14:52 #1334507More of a tongue in cheek question to be fair as I can’t see Willie ever entertaining the idea and at least you don’t have to think too much about the tactics with Faugheen – but then I guess I thought that with Min as well!!!

I wasn’t convinced she’d stay it either and hence didn’t bet her, but stay she did. She is some mare, so gutsy and although she had plenty to make up in the final furlong I somehow just “knew” she’d get there – she’s that kind of horse. The Mares Hurdle is not always the most well-regarded race at Cheltenham but I’ll never forget her bravely holding off the Mullins runners either side and getting her head in front on the run in… she’s an absolute cracker

Today’s race so sadly marred by the loss of Nichols Canyon, a trooper of a horse in his own right. I always feel even worse when a horses passes over hurdles as I always consider them so much safer a form of jump racing… RIP Nichols Canyon.
