    I recall visiting dog tracks many years ago when, at some point during the evening, a uniformed guy wearing a peaked cap with Customs and Excise written on it would appear with a clip board in hand and he would conduct some business with each of the bookies. I always thought he was placing bets. Has anyone any idea what he was about please?

    Might have been someone from Customs & Excise.

    Seriously though it could have been the Ring Manager or Racing Manager at the track or the SP/show reporter (particularly if it was in the old days – 20 or so years ago).
