Hello all.
Is anyone able to give us some news regarding the weather near Kempton.
Im really hoping that the King George card is on, always a fantastic meeting.
Any updates from the local area near to Kempton Park would be brilliant.
Thanks.
December 18, 2010 at 17:33 #333139I’m about 5 miles away. I’ve been checking the weather constantly & it’s changing all the time. The latest one for between now & Boxing Day isn’t good. Heavy snow forecast for Tuesday then snow again in the afternoon on King George day itself. Top temperature is 0c (Xmas Day) with lows of -7 on various days/nights.
All of this is from http://www.theweatheroutlook.com – they are pretty good with the long range forecasts but they have been saying that the weather could go either way in the next week or so and it is changing day by day, although not for the better at the moment

My guess is the main worry will be the snow on top of the covers. It doesn’t look like we are going to get temperatures high enough to melt it & there could be more snow on the way on Tuesday & Boxing Day.
December 18, 2010 at 17:35 #333140Here’s the forecast:-
http://www.myweather2.com/Horse-Racing/ … spx?sday=6
Although tomorrow’s AW card there has been called off, clerk of the course is optimistic for KG.
From Sporting Life:-
Heavy snow at Kempton has led to the abandonment of Sunday’s all-weather fixture.
Clerk of the course Brian Clifford had serious concerns about the surrounding areas, and believed the situation would be "insurmountable" given time constraints for the afternoon meeting.
He said: "We’ve had eight to 10 centimetres of snow today and, taking everything into account, we have decided to abandon.
"Given the forecast, there is no guarantee the road infrastructure would be passable tomorrow and getting everyone here safely would be the main concern.
"It would be an insurmountable job to get it moved.
"We’ll look forward now to the additional fixture we have here on Tuesday for the National Hunt horses. There’s snow flurries forecast but not for the amount we have had today."
Looking further ahead to the showpiece King George meeting on Boxing Day, Clifford was able to issue an upbeat bulletin.
He said: "I spoke to John Kettley this afternoon and temperatures will stay cold until Thursday and Friday.
"Then into Christmas Day and Boxing Day, we could see 3C on Christmas Day and 4C on Boxing Day.
"We are in a good position, there’s no frost underneath the covers and the vulnerable areas I have checked all seem fine.
"We are still a week tomorrow away and time is on our side."

Very good Miss W!
December 21, 2010 at 11:52 #333441Still frozen? ? ?
4/7 to be called off.
December 21, 2010 at 16:42 #333469Why not get all the kids around Kempton to make snowmen at the course? Well, giant sized snowballs anyway.
Every child knows that when building a snowman, you start with a small snowball and roll it along the gtound. The snowflakes compact and grab on to the snowball, leaving little or no snow on the turf. It wouldn’t take long for any temperature above freezing to melt the rest.
Although it might make a mess of the turf?

Was just thinking the same thing. They really should, but wonder if they might leave it to the BBC as they are showing the Welsh National from Chepstow.
December 21, 2010 at 22:50 #333509Can’t imagine they’ll be in a mad hurry to hand coverage of any rescheduled King George over to the other lot, risking the foregoing of Kauto’s possible rewriting of history in the process.
Cheltenham on January 1st seems the likeliest, especially as;
(1) there’s no remotely competing sort of race on the card (the Dipper Novices’ Chase and Graded handicap chase are over shorter and not drawing from the same pool of animals, whereas the longer distance handicap chase is no better than class 2 standard, from what I remember), and
(2) Channel 4’s online TV guide seems to suggest that televising of the Newbury card – Challow Hurdle, Mandarin Chase, replacement Long Walk Hurdle et al – isn’t happening as things stand.
The falling of Sandown’s Tolworth Hurdle meeting on the second Saturday (the 8th) of January this year probably pushes that one too far into next month to be considered.

December 21, 2010 at 23:10 #333515If the race is moved then Kemptons Lanzarote meeting would be ideal or failing that if Wetherby is just about raceable then maybe they could hold it.
Newbury should be covered by C4 as it is a good card with the Challow Hurdle,Mandarin Graduation and the Long Walk Hurdle.

What would be the point of winning the King George away from Kempton?

I don’t think the Challow will be on C4 Neil. Believe I remember RUK saying they had "exclusive coverage".
Value Is EverythingDecember 21, 2010 at 23:40 #333522Any chance it will be put off to such a time Imperial Commander might give me a run for my ante-post money?

Even less likely, I fear. That’d be another week later than Sandown, and proximity to the Argento Chase – plus the Peter Marsh, for them that still regard it as a Gold Cup trial despite relatively few genuine aspirants having graced it in the last decade or so – may start to have a bearing on numbers of likely acceptors.
I’m not sure delaying their leading contenders’ run by as much as 20 days, as the Lanzarote meeting would require, would be the likes of Nicholls’ or Henderson’s first choice, even if that did mean the race staying at Kempton in so doing.

December 22, 2010 at 07:43 #333543this is a handy real time report: http://www.sunburyweather.co.uk/
The real time data is good I think but note the 5 day forecast is not sourced locally.
I thought the postponement plan was for Sandown on Jan 8 but looks like it will go ahead as scheduled now.

Come on Snow!
If Kempton is off (and it’s not run the following day) then all ante-post bets are void, anyway.
