I think there is a possinbility that on good or faster ground that Macs Joy has the turn of foot to take that battle out of the equation if asked for his effort sooner and getting McCoy to ask Brave Inca for everything sooner. Macs Joy is certainly no shirker.
Not dipped into any ante-post market as yet, but the good horses are starting to re-emerge now so I will be interested to see how Boychuk fares on his chase debut at Exeter tomorrow…

I’m with Irish Stamp and Grimes in being on Detroit City for the Champion Hurdle. Any 4yo that wins at Cheltenham and Aintree in the space of three weeks must be a bit special…still won’t stop me being a chicken and laying him off nearer the race though.

Have to take issue with that last comment Librettist. Whilst an extra 4 lb wouldn’t have stopped Detroit City, both Made In Japan and Spectroscope would both also have won at Aintree following their Triumph wins had they not been burdened with a 4 lb penalty.

The statistic about 5-y-o hurdlers is often repeated and I see no reason why Detriot City was a better juvenile than Faasel and Penzance.

Mac’s Joy – CH no McCoy no win for BI as I see it
Mighty Man – WH a year older and showed true class at Aintree after clipping heels at HQ
Newmill – CC Won a poor renewal but was quite stunning – see no reason to avoid repeat
Forget the Past – GC hit four or five in GC and not beaten that far in third – do for me

I’m a big fan of Mighty Man and the Daly stable but in my opinion Aintree is his course.Cant see him winning the Stayers.

I’m not sure what you are taking issue with me over DJ? Detroit City recorded far better speed figures than Penzance or Faasel ever have and I think he has the size and scope to get better and stronger with age, whereas maybe the two you mentioned did not. The slight worries I have over Detriot City are whether he will stay sound and also if he would be better over further next year, although the Champion Hurdle is normally run at a good pace and I expect to see him bounding on up the hill when others have had enough…that’s if he runs of course. Time will tell I suppose!

BJK will win whatever race its aimed at for Chelts. But until they decide what to go for i wont go A.P. on it. BUT if i owned him I’d take on BI, Macs Joy etc.

I love Detroit City to bits, but he will not win the Champion Hurdle. He wants way further – he got outpaced at Cheltenham which is why he was hard off the bridle about a mile out.

He was also a novice last year – previous year novices need 2 seasons to step-up.

The only ones I can think of off the top of my head that stepped up in the 1st year are Azertyuiop and Hardy Eustace – Azertyuiop benefitted from Moscow’s departure, and Hardy used both brilliance and stamina. He was also 7yo.

My current picks would be BJK, who like HE, can use his brilliance to overcome his inexperience.

Mac’s Joy, who can repeat his win over BI using similar tactics.

Ouninphoja can win the Supreme Novices, Denman can win the R&SA Chase, Noland can win the Arkle, Kicking King the Gold Cup, Kicks For Free wil win some Novice Hurdle race and I can’t really remember any of the other races!

    Sorry Librettist

Was disagreeing with the point that by winning at Aintree after Cheltenham made Detroit City something special, because had they not been penalised, Made In Japan and Spectoscope would also have followed up.

    Can’t see it – he’s forgotten how to win a race. He’s a headcase.
I sincerely hope not – he’s my Horse To Avoid for the whole season. 165,000gns seemed an awful lot of money to pay out in the hope hurdling will reinstate the classy, multiple winning Ouninpohja of 2005 at the expense of this year’s frustrating, head-tossing model.
Hmmmm….off the top of my head I can think of Royal Gait, Alderbrook, Make A Stand, Istabraq??. And while we’re at it, how about Mr Mulligan, Looks Like Trouble, Best Mate, Kicking King, War Of Attrition? Maybe Viking Flagship, Klairon Davies, Newmill? My Way De Solzen? (ooh look, the winners of three championship races at last season’s festival were second season novices….). Doran’s Pride, Karshi, Princeful, Bacchanal, Inglis Drever?

I would advise you, not that it will really make much difference, to just try and do a tiny bit of research before you come up with such laughable statements.
