Okay, so who was the first ever horse to be remounted in a National?

Or, try this one. What links these horses: Celtic Abbey, The Last Fling, Greenhill Raffles, Don’t Light Up, The Songwriter?

Wow, that’s a good try but two more after. Cryptical the very next year in 1930 and one a bit later!

Cheers GM, I had Hawker in my head, couldn’t have even told you the decade, but was worth a pop. I’ll stick to late 70’s onwards :good:

A clue: the last 15yo to run in the GN had twice been placed in the race.

Wikipedia says…MacMoffat in 1937. One of 57 runners- I knew they used to allow more than 40 but didn’t realise that’s not even close to the max ever

Which is the odd one out:
Vautour, Corbiere, L’Escargot or Flakey Dove?

Yes, well done. Probably a typo, it was in 1947. MacMoffat fell, as far as I can discern somewhere down the canal side on the first circuit. That was the second biggest field ever behind the 66 in 1929. The last field of over 40 was 42 in 1977.

True, kingb, but not the answer I was looking for. The clue is in the names. Wikipedia is your friend.

Apart from Foinavon which other horse ran in at least one Grand National in which a fence carried its name?
