Who is the man pictured below and in what way is he associated with horse racing.
May 11, 2016 at 23:34 #1245415Is it Milton Johns, who used to a bit of commentating and/or announcing at a couple of courses??
May 12, 2016 at 00:22 #1245417I reckon you’re spot on Bobby. I didn’t know he did a bit of commentating,
but I’m sure you have the right man
May 12, 2016 at 10:11 #1245458Which horse, a shock winner of a now group 1 race, in the 1960s, was the last cover by his sire, who died the day after he served the dam?
Name the horse and the stallion.May 12, 2016 at 15:19 #1245509I think I know this!
Was it Nasram, longshot winner of the King George at Ascot in 1964? He beat the favourite (Derby winner Santa Claus), big upset. Never won again as far as I know.
He was by Nasrullah.
Now I knew Nasrullah died of a cardiac rupture (aorta, I’d suspect) in the late fifties, so I looked it up and Nasram’s date of birth is recorded as 4th May 1960. Count back eleven months… Nasrullah died on 26th May 1959… all adds up.
If I’m right, I’ve learnt something new: I never knew Nasram’s dam was the last ever covered by Nasrullah! That’s a heart warming story.
If I’m wrong, I await the correct the answer with interest. :)
May 12, 2016 at 15:48 #1245516You are correct! I’m so glad someone has answered one of mine quickly!
May 12, 2016 at 15:52 #1245519Omg! I never get anything right lol!
Will think of a question, but I think mine will be too easy…
May 12, 2016 at 16:46 #1245533OK, I got one.
Can you find a connection between the 1983 Nassau Stakes (Goodwood) winner and a non-winning mare named ‘Mountain Flower’, born almost twenty years earlier in California?
Google will make it easy if you can’t work it out!

Well done vtc.
The photo is of Milton Johns playing Captain Bewil in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. He gets two lines in the film. The first is, “Lord Vader, ship approaching. X-wing class.” The second is, “Skywalker has just landed, my Lord.”
These are pretty much announcements, which is why I think he got the gigs at Lingfield and Plumpton. If you can make announcements to Darth Vader and still keep your cool then three mile steeplechases and two and a half mile handicap hurdles should be a piece of cake.
May 14, 2016 at 14:08 #1245976Thanks seasider, sorry for the late reply……………..lol, yeah, once you’ve faced Vader, then the races should be a walk in the park.
I know you like to set the questions, so happy for you to fire away, unless you’d prefer otherwise.
May 14, 2016 at 15:42 #1245991Not to worry, VTC.
Re the next question, St Nicholas Abbey has asked one three posts up from here.
May 15, 2016 at 14:01 #1246068Sorry if I’ve messed it up – I answered Crepello’s question and lost track!
May 15, 2016 at 14:43 #1246080You haven’t messed anything up, SNA.
I’ll copy your question here so it’s (currently) the last post on the thread and hence easier to find. Probably I shouldn’t interrupt the flow, but I thought it useful to confirm the Milton Johns answer even though everyone knew it was him!

May 16, 2016 at 10:34 #1246113This was my fault for being slow to post a new question after I got the one about Paddy Prendergast.

They both had a daughter called Wishing Well.

Spot on!
The 1983 winner of the Nassau was Acclimatise, whose daughter Wishing Well was of little note.
Mountain Flower’s daughter Wishing Well was a Grade winner who is most famous for being the dam of the great Sunday Silence.
Sorry if it was too easy!
May 16, 2016 at 20:35 #1246158My turn then.
A Prince of Wales’s Stakes winner of the 1970s, a Queen Anne Stakes winner of the 1980s, a Hardwicke winner of the 1980s.
Who did they have in common, and what did they have in common (apart from all having won at Royal Ascot)?
