What is the connection between the steeplechasers Shaun Goilin & Flyingbolt?
December 7, 2012 at 08:57 #421888Flyingbolt was by Airborne, who was thought to be impotent, and mated by accident with a mare in a paddock who was there to keep him company!
So are both of them the a result of an accidental mating
December 7, 2012 at 18:54 #421930Correct. They both came into the world through unplanned matings.
Shaun Goilin’s dam Golden Day was served by an un cut colt who jumped into the field. He is recorded as being Shaun Aboo & Shaun Goilin is his only recorded offspring.December 9, 2012 at 02:40 #422129The next horse in the sequence please

December 10, 2012 at 18:56 #422302Exactly that Carry On Katie.
Her brother The Marquis, Alfonso ‘Fon ‘ de Portago was an interesting chap.
In 1950 was third on Garde Toi in Cottage Rake’s third Cheltenham Gold Cup and rode the same horse in Freebooter’s Grand National in the days when the Aintree fences were stiff and unforgiving, earning the description ‘bloody great green stone walls’.
He was also a champion on the Cresta Run, a Davis Cup tennis player for Spain and fearless driver of anything on wheels. It was his friendship with Enzo Ferrari which caused his untimely death. Just before a Mille Miglia, that fearsome Sicilian road race in which Sterling Moss achieved one of his greatest triumphs, a Ferrari driver fell ill and Portago, with no proper preparation or reconnaissance, volunteered as a favour to take his place. Still in in his 20’s he was fatally injured when his car went off the road.
Apologies for the delay
