Sad to see her retired before the end of the season but she gave us some superb races in the most dire conditions this year.
Just a shame she never made the Yorkshire Oaks or showed what she was really capable of in Deauville.

September 2, 2008 at 08:30 #178953Don’t think the horse has been particularly well campaigned this season, a run in the Coronation Cup followed by 3 races in 12 days. They were fortunate York was off and not run on heavy ground, there seemed to be a panic to run her in any race with a bit of cut in the ground when it’s a long season with plenty of races at the back end.

I doubt that she has been all that easy to place?
As a mare who ideally needed 12f+ on proper soft ground, her record shows she hasn’t had that many opportunities throughout her career, (Her last run at Deauville was on ground no worse than g/s).
On the rare occasions she has had such circumstances, she has proved just about unbeatable, and I don’t doubt for a second that had York been on, she would have added another victory to her already impressive cv.
A dream horse from a punting perspective and reliable as a Swiss watch, she must have been an absolute pleasure to own, and I look forward to seeing her offspring carrying on her good name.September 2, 2008 at 12:03 #178980Yeats

As you say though she’s still done great, winning 2 Group 2’s and will be worth a fortune at stud. I just feel she could have won a Group 1.September 2, 2008 at 20:59 #179073Loved watching her racing happy retirement Anna.
