If you search on Twitter you will see that Nick Davis, a semi-professional punter I’ve got a lot of time for (intelligent, articulate chap) has engaged Andrew Cooper, Clerk Of The Course at Sandown Park and Epsom Downs, on the subject of shifting Going Stick reading definitions in recent years of what constitutes any particular shade of Going.

Excellent polite, but probing and to the point, questions from Davis and fair play to Cooper for responding.

Essential reading for any serious punter IMO.

That’s one of the main reasons, and a key metric, why the rating system can never be considered as being “scientific”…it’s purely subjective, with no one definitive and accepted standard.

First two winners at Sandown Park today came widest of all.

I think the watering caused a track bias which impacted the opening handicaps – it’s a game of fine margins.
