The Paddy Power’s of obvious interest with it being just around the corner but my attention’s still firmly focused on the Hennessy, and two runners of immediate interest. It would be an obvious statement to make to say I’m keeping tabs on ol’ Twister and making sure he sends our boy
Imperial Commander
to the correct destination in Newbury ahead of Haydock. That should go without saying however, and the horse with several options who I want to line up alongside ‘The Commander’ is
Tidal Bay
. He’s a lovable old rogue, not entirely wired up right but his hearts in it. He’s also different class, as his mark implies, and the very fact that he’s rated 11lbs clear of his nearest rival at the early entries stage speaks volumes. To those who haven’t yet put two and two together yet that would also give my boy a significantly lower weight than should he not run; 10st 8lbs if my maths stands up.
Ears close to the ground everyone!

Stange one complete, Twister has stated the Hennessy as ‘The Commander’s’ target. This could quite possibly be his seasonal target, the one he’s really being geared towards. He’s into 16s now and I’m just happy to that go because I’ve got the fancy prices. Done my b*llocks a bit as well lately so having a bit of time off. Great to kick off again with the Paddy Power though this weekend, the promise of great things to come

Early days yet Boz, plenty of time to turn round a shaky start. I haven’t began too brightly myself, if it wasn’t for The Game Changer I’d be up sh!t creek already!
Any fancy for the weekend?

Aye cheers Tommy, I’m not concerned mate Keeping my powder dry for now as I’ve got a big day out at Haydock to save for next weekend, but I do fancy this
Rajdhani Express
in the Paddy Power. This he’ll come on a great deal this year, even more so on better ground which we should have Saturday. Considering the ground last season he actually had a decent time of it, but I reckon he’ll be one to follow this term.
Greatwood looks a bit trickier, a bit torn between
Kashmir Peak
and
Court Minstrel
, with possible slight preference for the former. Think he might be better than his mark suggests and although inexperienced I can see him running a big race.
Also, eyes peeled for the 2015 Arkle winner Sunday Tommy,
West Wizard
Love a premature prediction and I can see there being a fair chance a few have burnt their fingers as a Supreme horse. Not to entirely rule him out but he does look more of a chaser, let’s not forget
Sprinter Sacre
only finished third his year!
‘Bout you then Tommy, anything from your neck of the woods raiding our isles you’ll be getting stuck into?

Yes I’m looking forward to seeing this
West Wizard
, if the hype is to be believed then he really must be something. He faces a nice sort in The Liquidator who should keep him honest, he won well in Punchestown and has the benefit of a run.
I see Dessie Hughes has a few horses entered at Cheltenham on Saturday, as do Gordon, Willie an Tony. I might have a small each way on Gift Of Dgab if he runs in the Paddy Power, but I’ll probably leave the rest at home. On Sunday Elliott’s Jamsie Hall interests me in the first. In all likelihood though I’ll concentrate on the stuff in Ireland: Punchestown Saturday and Sunday and Cork on Sunday too If the big guns stand their ground in the Craddockstown we’re in for a cracker. I’d rather Defy Logic and Felix Yonger didn’t run against each other so early in the season but I’d say it’s likely. If Don Cossack runs he’ll get another chance to glimpse Defy Logic’s backside
November 13, 2013 at 21:13 #458223So much for keeping my powder dry for Haydock! With the weekend feast we have approaching I started to get itchy palms as I do like this
Rajdhani Express
for the Paddy Power. The more I’ve looked at it the more I like this lad. He really should of had no season whatsoever last term with the weather we had, but as it turned out he was one of the year’s biggest improvers. I personally reckon there’s more of that left in him. He’s got a pretty classy pedigree that entitles him to end up going places this year, and I can see it all starting this weekend. I’ve got such faith in this fella I even signed up to a new firm after spotting the 12/1 – gift!

November 15, 2013 at 13:33 #458392Tricky day’s racing today but certainly a pleasure to see it return Just a small bit of interest for the day; The two Dai Walters horse head the market in the 2.40, perhaps fairly so as both seem open to plenty improvment.
Gods Own
won well at Kempton but gave the impression that perhaps Cheltenham might not be his course. The one that caught my eye at a massive price was the Alan King trained
Handazan
. He’s down in class from his last handicap run prior to his most recent effort, a race he won easily and may well be able to cope with the 8lb hike. He’s been here a couple of times before without success but he may well improve for the step up in trip. Interesting at the prices anyway.

Poor punting that, probably got carried away with the price. Genuinely didn’t fancy him, no idea why I backed him Actually quite fancied that
Whisper
who ran a solid race despite clattering a couple coming down and back up the hill. He’ll win next time and I’ll be on.
December 5, 2013 at 15:21 #460840I don’t do this very often and it’s highly likely I’ve got carried away by a big price here. I’ve heard good things of this
Vautour
joining the Willie Mullins yard this year, although admittedly never having seen him run I’m going in blind on this one.
Robin Des Champs
horses often grow with age, but the 66/1 I was offered by Laddies for this French import to win the Neptune had me diving towards to the phone. They went 100/1 about him for the Supreme as well, but I left that alone as his profile reads as a more likely Neptune type. I’m happy to take the chance on him based on the buzz he’s created.
Vautour
entered in a two mile maiden hurdle at Navan on Saturday Boz, the main opposition if he runs are likely to be Liz Doyle’s
Le Vent D’Antan
and Dessie Hughes’
Lieutenant Colonel
.
Been a while since you posted about him, do you still think he could be Neptune material? I like my Robin Des Champs horses, and more so when they’re stabled at Closutton. Given the colours on his back it would be no surprise if he turned out to be a good one. Le Vent D’Antan (by Martaline who incidentally is another sire I like) will represent stiff opposition so should give us a good handle on him.
PS: Faugheen is entered on the same card, I’ve convinced myself he’s their Neptune horse and can see him doing a Simonsig

Top of the afternoon to you Tommy
Bloody missed the race didn’t I but I understand he got the job done nicely. As I missed it I couldn’t comment in too much detail but it sounds like he’s held in enough regard to be a Cheltenham horse. Of course the main concern would be which race he’d end up in (were he to be good enough). I’m starting to get the jitters about not taking the 100/1 Supreme quote That could make me look very silly indeed come March! Can’t complain with my 66/1 Neptune price right now though…….as long as that’s where he goes!
December 7, 2013 at 13:49 #461158He looked very good Boz. Jumped very well and looked straightforward. 25/1 can still be got for the Supreme with Bet Victor!

Moths flying out the wallet at the moment Tommy but I’ll look into that. Nice bit of insurance that with their NRFB on all festival races. No 100/1 though
December 21, 2013 at 15:06 #462617This Saturday sees the reappearance of next year’s World Hurdle winner,
At Fishers Cross
.
At Fishers Cross
to go the season unbeaten, £100 win@14/1 with Paddy Power
I’m only interested in
At Fishers Cross
winning the World hurdle Boz and being owned by a respected Gambler I’d expect a reversal or 2 this year en-route to World hurdle victory purely because 4/1 is an absolute joke for the race at this time of the season. If he gets beat on Saturday he’ll drift to 6’s! Good luck though as I admire your Foresight.
‘Normals’ wouldn’t touch
At Fishers Cross
for the World hurdle after yet another reversal by one of my old boys today but thats what I am not and Corals have just relieved me of a £50 e/w wager at 14/1 for that very race. That horse was never ridden to win today but there was glimpses of the ability thats still there, when he jumps clean he flys them but being constantly restrained by the hands of the Iron Man he was never given his head.Anyone who thinks this horse will go off at 14/1 come March hasn’t a clue about the games played with horses, even after todays performance I wouldn’t offer double figures.JP will fill his boots.
January 20, 2014 at 22:24 #465445Beer is a powerful tool. It can bring one’s confidence to the fore which is exactly what I’ve needed of late as this National Hunt Season’s been an absolute disaster for me. Ante-post wise I’m about 80% shot to sh*t but there’s the odd play I still have hope on.
Horses I haven’t mentioned are horses that, bless Darren, has already stolen my thunder for. It certainly wouldn’t be unheard of that a worthy ‘Triumph horse’ should be unraced as of yet. There been good words for this
Thomas Hobson
, but I see the purchase as misleading. His flat form shows him to be a stand out mudlark. The top of the market however’s seen
Calipto
clipted into 12s, a horse who’s Newbury debut seems to have gone unnoticed by many. He looked top class that day, travelling like a dream throughout, and with the smart looking
Baradari
and
Dawalan
franking the form since I’d suggest he’s a horse you should oppose at your peril.
Another horse that touched a nerve when I saw Darren mention before me was
Grand Vision
. Third in
Brindisi Breeze’s
Albert Bartlett, this fella possesses the top class form of finishing behind he and
Boston Bob
. After being pulled up on return this year, his second last time in a Pertemps qualifier shows he’s still got it in him, and his renewed mark of 142 looks more than workable should he carry the form of old in March. He’s another worth having on side in March and 25/1 looks like a joke of a price. Another player in that field is
Kaki De La Pree
, who’s another going at a big price who could well get involved. He’s got form through
Kings Palace
, who many have down as a banker for the potato race. Not for me but he does look a fair animal.
Now then, this last lad i put forward with slight trepidation, but with the full appreciation of how Jonjo ‘prepares’ his handicappers pre-festival.
Burton Port
has looked a spent force this year. On every occasion I’ve watched him I’ve thought "That’s not the horse that finished second behind
Weapons Amnesty
and ahead of
Long Run
in an RSA". The funny thing is I believe I’m right, it’s
not
the horse that reached those heights. He’s (in my opinion, lawyers stay away) been campaigned simply to drag his mark down as not once has he appeared to even seem half decent. If he was performing to his potential nowadays my assumption is he’d have been retired, so there’s obviously a target in mind. The National has been mooted so I may be jumping the gun, but off a mark in the low 140s and with Stan James going 25/1 about him in the Festival Handicap Chase on day one, he’s surely worth a bet. I’ve seen it anyway and I’m on.
February 9, 2014 at 14:28 #467614Oh how I wish I was on
Vautour
at 100/1. Sickening
March 2, 2014 at 21:53 #469745I’m sensing a man on his chin strap here!
Bozlike
you need to show you are better than that.

Gord you are, as you so often tend to be, of course right matey. It’s been a tough year but don’t worry mate, I’ll be back all guns blazing
