My better judgement came through in the end regarding my ‘free bet’. As much as I do expect a big run from the old boy
Jimmy Styles
in the Duke of York, I think he’s a good each-way bet at the prices and nothing more.
So help me God I’m not flushing that free bet down the carzy!
May 13, 2013 at 16:56 #439524Interesting turn of events as the Andre Fabre trained
Ocovango
is confirmed for Epsom. Could he be the one to serve it up to
Dawn Approach
as nothing from this side of the Channel can surely? Or is it merely a case of the master trainer knowing he’s got one good enough for the French Classic in
Intello
? Personally I’d side with the latter.
Either way it all sounds a bit familiar this, Fabre trained Greffulhe winner comes over to gatecrash the party………..
May 14, 2013 at 00:11 #439555A clutch of intriguing looking Derby entries for next year………
Sea Here
Sired by the legendary Sea The Stars, out of Oaks heroine Look Here. Could be ready-made for Epsom glory if breeding’s anything to go by. Ralph Beckett trains again.
Entiqaam
Another by Sea The Stars out of Guineas 2nd Cuis Ghaire, herself a talented miler sired by Galileo. Exciting prospect if Dermot Weld can manage him well.
Mystic Blue
Will be trained in France by Mikel Delzangles with a fair profile to his name. Sired by Monsun and the dam, Millionaia(by Peintre Celebre), finished 2nd in the Diane in a 4 race career.
Munaaser
Hamdan Al Maktoum has a decent looking list of 2 year olds on paper and this Sir Michael Stoute trained colt could be another. Sired by New Approach and out of a mediocre but well related dam, this could be an interesting looking Guineas type.
Hydrogen
Galileo colt and half-brother to Authorized. What hasn’t already been said about him though

Friendship
Another by Galileo. The dam is a dual Grade 1 winning mare over 10 furlongs from America by Cityscape’s sire Selkirk. Interesting newcomer from Ballydoyle.
Almuhalab
I said it before and I’ll say it again, a potentially fascinating year ahead for Al Maktoum and co with this first colt out of star Guineas filly Ghanaati. Charlie Hills takes the honour of training the Dubawi colt.
Right, who’s for a classic winner?
May 15, 2013 at 10:28 #439661The ground’s gone now for my each-way player
Jimmy Styles
, but the give in the ‘underhoof’ conditions opens for the door for the classy mudlark
Maarek
. I’m obviously not the only one to notice this as the price in the last 24-48 hours has been stolen
May 15, 2013 at 10:37 #439664The change of conditions has done a fair bit of harm to the Dante, given that half of the protagonists would surely want it quick. The connections of Greatwood, Trading Leather and Windhoek would all have wanted the rain to stay away. Perhaps as it is another Classic trial door is opened for ‘Team O’Brien’, how exhilarating
May 15, 2013 at 10:59 #439667My spies tell me that it’s the wee matter of 300 days until
those
four days.
That’s when the gloves really come off
May 16, 2013 at 11:19 #439727A muddling day today as my Leger horse
Greatwood
puts his ‘Derby’ credentials on the line, a race he certainly won’t be winning as he’ll be better the further he goes and will relish the extra 2 furlongs round Donny. His class almost got him up over an inadequate 1 mile 2f at HQ in the big sales race when he stayed on well to almost pip
Windhoek
. The same trip won’t help him today and I can’t have him winning a Dante, although I’m sure his ability will see him end up there or thereabouts. That said I can’t wish for too good a run as the bookies could react with haste before I manage to lump on tomorrow

What do I want from today? I honestly couldn’t say
Just don’t win or don’t finish tailed off last

Right, who’s for a classic winner?

I’m always up for a Classic winner Boz,rather than comment on the individuals you have put up as at this stage we are basing our opinions purely on Breeding really but I must say its good to see you are putting the work in and in the world of Ante-Post betting you have too.I have every confidence you will post a good priced winner, preferably Ante-Post!
Keep up the good work,I like your style!

Well others could look upon my
Greatwood’s
performance as a disaster today, but I’d know better than to do so
The way I see things he had a million and one excuses from todays race; falling out of the stalls, not settling, outpaced and blocked a true run under the Fallon drive on the straight. This all coming in a race I couldn’t see any good reason why he’d be able to win anyway. Of course when the bookmakers notice that he only beat one home the fancy prices they offer me will have me with dollar signs in my eyes
The next step from Camp Cumani? Just give this boy the trip he needs

Thanks Gord. You know as well as I do mate that you can’t afford to get lazy in this game and the best way to get ahead is to put the time in

Oh the winners will come don’t you worry. By next March I can
GUARANTEE
that this thread’s profit margin will be blacker than the ace of spades
May 17, 2013 at 10:37 #439806My Tent Or Yours
Champion Hurdle £30 win@7.6(Total £200)
Chatterbox
Arkle £30e/w@16/1, £10e/w@33/1(Total £60e/w)
Greatwood
St Leger £25e/w@20/1
Didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when Boyles offered me 33s for my boy
Chatterbox
in the Arkle considering I’d just had £30e/w on him at what I now thought was a top priced 16s with BetVictor
Oh well you live and learn!-£650
May 17, 2013 at 11:00 #439809Winsili
looked a horse fully capable of serving it up to the sted-head horse
Certify
in last year’s Fillies’ Mile, before being pulled out of the race at the eleventh hour due to a late setback. She’s out today and although she may well need the run as the betting currently indicates, I thought it only right I should have a little nibble on her. Stepped up in trip today should suit and as long as she doesn’t need it too much she should be too good for these, although
Valkala
is another horse I respect and could have a bright future. Small stakes, just a bit of interest………
Winsili
2.00 Newbury, £20win@2/1(Best odds guaranteed with Bet365)

Well she got the job done nicely and with a fair bit in hand in the end. As expected group races will be the next step. A very nice filly to keep on the right side of if you ask me.

May 21, 2013 at 13:13 #440273They say you’ve got to speculate to accumulate in this world and this next one of mine if certainly speculative! This
Almuhalab
I’ve given a write up on my ‘2 year olds to watch’ section has really caught my eye as a Guineas type such is his breeding, and yes, I am hoping for a helping hand from science with this one as he’s not even visited a racecourse yet to back up any of my lofty aspirations for him
Anyhow, the way I see things the first son of star mareGhanaati
could flop beyond all recognition in the same manner that many before have and then all it is is a distant dream forgotten. Otherwise, the 50/1 that both Hills and Laddies offered me during my lunch which almost made me choke on my ham and mayonnaise sandwiches could prove to be worth it’s weight in gold. I was happy to take my chances anyway and see how it all pans out.
Almuhalab
2000 Guineas 2014, £25e/w@50/1 with Hills(1/4 odds 1,2,3)
I don’t mind doing speculative for the greater good!

I don’t need luck Gord I need biology to do me a bloody favour!
May 21, 2013 at 18:43 #440312During these long summer months when all I end up doing is wishing my life away by counting down the days until the start of the jumps season proper, I shall be casting my beady eye over the Irish Sea or potentially north of the border awaiting one name in particular. Most people tend to class the
real
start of the National Hunt season as Paddy Power Gold Cup day, one of my favourite races to target all year round. Now those of us who like to look to the fore will be piecing together the bits of the puzzle long before the net has been cast, and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing

The answer I’ve come up with is
Carlito Brigante
, a horse who for my money is probably rated 5 or 6lbs too low to make it into the race on the average year, so considering his need for genuine good ground perhaps a summer spin to get the hike wouldn’t be so out of the question. He comes to life on a better surface, especially round Cheltenham as he absolutely loves the place. No buggar loves a big Cheltenham pot like Gordon Elliot and Michael O’Leary alike so they certainly wouldn’t be shy in sending him over. Although the question mark over the Cotswolds’ November weather would make him a write-off with regards to an ante-post tilt, I’ll still happily put him up at this stage.
