His form may stink since he won the race last year, but
Saddler’s Rock
looks far too big today at 10/1. John Oxx isn’t one for trying to get blood out of a stone with his horses, so the fact he’s sent him over to defend his crown will tell you he’s got him ready. We’re due for a hot sunny day at Goodwood today so although he won’t get his favoured quick ground, it’s only going to dry up. The German horse looks no mug but
Saddler’s Rock
is the best horse in the race and should he run to potential, I reckon he’ll find himself back in the winners enclosure.
On the subject of weather, it better not dry up
too
much!

Having found some money to play with I’ve decided to put it where my mouth is. This lad’s a class horse and I’m sure he’s got a decent run in him today.

A bit of a leap of faith backing this lad and it showed. He looked a shadow of his former self on the straight as the best part of the field flew past like he was stood in the field chewing grass. A shame really as he looked the standout horse in the field on past form. Definitely best watched unless his career can gain a second wind.

August 1, 2013 at 14:49 #447217I’m going in again on my dear friend
Cape Peron
, and I’m sensing a touch of deja vu as I feel a rain dance coming on
I’m praying it’s not Royal Ascot all over again but I have been reliably informed that the rain definitelyis
coming. I’ve managed to salvage some 8/1 so I’ll jump in each way to cover myself.

August 1, 2013 at 17:14 #447230Last bit of business for tomorrow now and I like
Masamah
to run a big race in the sprint. Marco Botti’s got him running back to something like his best and he always seems primed for this race, having won it in 2011 and finishing 3rd last year. Although he’d prefer it quick he’s not overly ground dependent, and the way the weather’s playing silly beggars for me and my ticker over
Cape Peron
I’d imagine we’ll end up without any extremes of conditions. I’ll take a little chance on the good doctor’s horse.

Bloody rule 4 robbed me of a fiver
Better fromCape Peron
today, but he had an unfortunate path on the rail. Ultimately you have to expect these things in big handicaps though and we just happened to run into a jockey and trainer at the peak of their powers. Bit more give in the ground and I’m definitely not finished with this lad yet!

August 5, 2013 at 13:05 #447701I must admit Stephen, nothing that’s actually run is tickling my pickle for the Guineas as far as winning the thing goes as of yet. Like I say, I like
Toormore
a lot and I’m certain he’ll run a place so all the best with him. We could be looking at a late bloomer to come through which bodes well for my
Almuhalab
, although the fact he’s got a Royal Lodge entry and nothing over shorter concerns me slightly. For an O’Brien Derby horse, one who’s as yet unraced but does hold fancy pants entries is
Johann Strauss
, could be a name to follow as none of the others have appeared to be top top grade so far, the possible exception being
Indian Maharaja
.
I decided to take the plunge on Toormore win only at 20/1
The stable have more or less ruled out the big two year old races for him as they think he is a horse for next year rather than this. He apparently has a lot of filling out to do and they have adopted a "softly-softly" approach similar to that employed with Toronado last season. There are no doubt good 2yos yet to emerge but other fancied ones already seen may blot their copybooks before the season is out.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Sorry to take so long to respond Steve, I’ve had several problems getting on the site in recent days – I don’t know if anyone else has suffered similarly?

Well I’d have to say fair play for getting involved so early, you could go far worse than backing this
Toormore
as he’s certainly not without a chance! I’m still waiting with bated breath for the introduction of one or two, particularly in the blue and white of Hamdan Al Maktoum. This 50/1 I have for
Almuhalab
could yet make a mug of either myself or bookmaker, I know what I’m hoping for
August 8, 2013 at 10:30 #447828Bets in the coming month will be more few and far between as me and ‘Mrs Boz’ have the stress of moving house to endure. I’m taking the old ball and chain for a day out to Ikea where she’ll be spending most of my hard earned on lamps, coffee tables, bath mats and all other general womanly nic-naks whilst I overlook steely eyed, thanking the lord I got started on
Un Atout
when I did. Moving day is in a couple of weeks, next step is to secure an internet connection asap in a bid to rejoin my TRF duties pronto

No worries, the site has had its problems recently.
Almuhalab has an attractive pedigree but I am not sure when we will see him. He is entered in the Royal Lodge and next year’s Derby, so perhaps his future is over a bit further. I have to say Charlie Hills is not my favourite trainer by any stretch of the imagination, although the filly Kiyoshi looked a beast at Royal Ascot, and some 20 winners have come from the three races she has been involved in. She is reported to be looking like a three year old colt now but some have said she is a sprinter in the making.
Good luck with the move. I’ve been there and it’s pretty stressful.

I have similar concerns Steve, definitely would have liked to have seen him entered in some of the premier 7 furlong races, but at this stage it’s only an entry and he’s not even been out yet so you never know.
Ye thanks mate, it’s certainly taking up most of our time at the minute!
August 9, 2013 at 18:21 #447930Well anyone who tuned into the 6.35 at Tipperary tonight may well have had the pleasure of witnessing the 2014 Derby winner in
Indian Maharaja
, the latest jewel in the Ballydoyle crown. By all accounts I was quite surprised at the decision to drop him back to 7 furlongs, but despite getting the roust along one out from young Joey, his ability to quicken was startling and he pulled clear with a minimum of fuss, putting the race to bed instantaneously. The way he went about his business was once again hugely impressive and he looks destined for big things as he goes further. If I didn’t have more pressing matters at hand in my life at the moment I’d pinch all of the 16/1 going on the high street for Epsom next year. How most firms have this
War Command
ahead of him in the market is beyond me! I like this lad, I think he’s very good indeed!
August 9, 2013 at 18:46 #447938Paddy Power you little beauty
Having been mightily impressed with the performance ofIndian Maharaja
I did the online rounds, checking all of my accounts for ‘bits n bobs’ to throw at next year’s Derby winner. I discovered a phantom £65 in my ‘Paddy’ account that I apparently received from
Cape Peron
in the Betfred Mile(money back as a free bet if your horse finishes 2nd on any Channel 4 race). Result!

The money in my account was showing as ‘non-withdrawable’ when I checked it Tommy, so it had definitely gone in as a free bet. Either way, it was going straight back on
Indian Maharaja
for the Derby
What did you make of him yesterday?August 10, 2013 at 09:17 #448009I still haven’t seen him Boz, I believe he was very impressive. I’m counting down the days to Listowel to be honest!

I was golfing last night so didn’t see any racing. When you’re 13 over through 8, 16 over isn’t a bad result!
August 11, 2013 at 11:21 #448097I like the looks of the big race today. Apart from Goodwood i’ve not been bothering a great deal with the racing recently, but my small bet on Intello at 11/4 gives me an interest. I’m quite keen on his chances.

Annoying day for me today Wolf. Didn’t have a penny down once again as Ikea took the lot earlier
Talking to a mate before though I told him that although it was a tight race, if I was going to get involved I’d probably have a wee slither onMoonlight Cloud
as she seemed to be the horse in the race with the least going against her. Add that to the fact that I’ve been tracking
Slade Power
recently as I believe he’s really ready for the big time now and I’ve missed out on quite a tasty double there!

What a joke that Coventry was as well. I’ve been telling everyone for as long as they’ve wanted to listen that this
War Command
is no good and today he was found out. I must admit though, I am a little surprised that he had his colours lowered so soon, but that just goes to show what a distinctly average animal he is. Anyone who was taking the 5/1 for him for the Guineas wants carting off to the loony bin!
