I haven’t tried out many alternatives to Betfair lately but there does seem to be more competition nowadays. My impression is the principal players are
Betdaq
Ladbroke exchange
WBX
Bettor
SmarketsBettor is a bit weird. It is very competitive on commission and has reasonable liquidity on some markets but has a slightly zombie feel to it with ‘live’ chat that is up to two years old.
But maybe there is something out there that I don’t know about. Any recommendations?
May 19, 2014 at 21:12 #479595For non racing betting check out Matchbook. For some reason they seem to be a best kept secret. You don’t hear much about them.
Really nice interface, good liquidity and 1% commission.
This is probably the way forward for most serious punters in modern times.
As for Racing exchanges….well their all the same. You can’t have more than 20 quid on an evens favorite until Tminus10, when the traders and hedging money will fill you in, at that stage the market is largely efficient and of course there’s the commission to pay, in many multiples of the 1% you’ll find on Matchbook.
So much time, money and effort has gone into promoting the racing product in recent years as a means to improving Racings lot, but its actually the poor state of the betting product that’s driving punters away, taking their turnover elsewhere (a point well made by indocine on Twitter yesterday)
Hard to blame them really.
