If this one gets an easy lead-Blue Hills is the only real worry to him-He should win this.Has stayed 15f on Turf so the extra 2f wont worry him & he has plenty pace for a stayer/Mid dist horse.Won easily here in a 12f H’Cap not long ago & genuine excuse for the few defeats he has had, ie 10f not long enough & was taken on for the lead & didnt settle last time in the race Scarab won.
Has a nice bit of toe when required & N.Callan gets on particularly well with him.Well drawn in stall 1.Went exactly to plan.Won easily.Keep your eye on him as he is better than the bare form

If ever there was a day that should encourage a no-bet policy on the all-weather it’s today – so many questionable rides it’s untrue.
March 3, 2009 at 02:28 #213157Some tough racing tomorrow, but the nightcap throws up some opportunities. Horse by horse analysis.
Piccolo Diamante:
Wide draw. Never placed from four sandpit runs. Mollusc impersonator.
Louisade:
Will be arriving on the stage when the audience have left.
Straight Face
: 3-37 (in one month last year). Expensive horse to follow and likely overrated once again.
Aggbag
Dreadful Rolleston record. Not even the fastest horse in his own box.
Mujada:
All downhill from promising first run. 0-11 lifetime. Hormonal filly with her own mind.
Aquarian Dancer:
Often punted, unexposed type. Possible longshot; from freezing yard and will likely need this outing.
Mr Rey:
0-19 and never seen this far north. One serious wooden spoon candidate amongst many.
Siena:
0-9. That’s places. Massive prices in each. From moribund stable and possibly the slowest filly ever raced.
Charlie Allnut:
Placed once from ten and gets worse with each outing..
Majestic Cheer:
Much travelled gelding. One win from thirty races. Punted on occasion and could place.
Mr Benji:
Beaten by incomprehensible Chamberlain pop-up last time. 6-82 and rapidly improving. Win mentality.
Where’s Kiloran:
Refugee from Grayson flu pit. One good run from eight. Who knows with the Alston yard?
The London Gang:
Expect massive plunge
. Micky Fenton replaces ordinary claimer; dropped in trip after three get-to-know-you runs for punting yard. 33/1 Forecast is just ridiculous for horse never placed to challenge last three and who would have hacked over these once upon a time.
Government:
See Gerald’s 100/1 thread.
The most likely outcome sees a race between
Mr Benji
and
The London Gang
who are both winners in a race full of physics-defying plodders. Both are suited by the conditions and both are impoving this year.
Government
is better than he looks, as this his time of year and his trip and track. Chapman’s horse is going to be a colossal price.

You’ll be pleased to here I couldn’t have The London Gang at all. All bar one of its runs at Southwell have been pretty poor. His trainer hasn’t the best record either according to the RP
Flat 2 from 47 , although winners were at 100/1 & 16/1
NH – 1 from 77, winner at 14/1He is I grant you showing a level stakes profit but he can’t have landed many gambles surely ?
Mister Benji looks the safest option to me with the Chapman runners both having a squeak as would Aggbag and Majestic Cheer of the others.
Mister Benji at 13/2 early prices looks a solid each way bet with maybe combination forecasts and tricasts with Louisade & Government.
Best of luck with TLG

March 3, 2009 at 16:41 #213236I like the look of efistorm. This horse normally runs off pace but imo hes best held up.Thats the key,I dont think ,he will have the pace in this race to up there and will be held up even if thats not what they want.(if you know what i mean)

March 3, 2009 at 19:06 #213252You might be right with TLG, Aaron – no money for it so far. One good run at Southwell suggested to me that it might act. It’s a bigger price than Government too, which I did not anticipate.
Big money for Mister Benji and – oddly – some money for Siena. If that filly wins I’m taking up macrame, or something.
I’ve blagged a meeting and I’ll be off up there for the fifth.

You’re making the effort to get to Southwell in time for the fifth race, Max?
I think I’ll contact Collins and get them to include that as their definitive definition of ‘dedication’ from now on.
For what it’s worth I quite like Aquarian Dancer (5.10) at around 16/1, though appreciate that Straight Face may well be difficult to beat up in trip.

Despite being upped in grade (though hardly carrying a huge weight), why was More Time Tim ridden differently than when bolting up in each of his last three outings? I sincerely doubt that his recent exertions have suddenly caught up with him, which makes today’s run all the more ‘interesting’.
Another question mark against Jim Boyle’s name for me (in terms of my own betting).
March 3, 2009 at 22:35 #213294I don’t live far from the track, Equitrack. It’s almost on my way home and despite having to get a job due to, er, a series of unfortunate results, I can still get to the latter parts of most meetings if I’m sneaky enough.
The less said about my dreadful spotlights last night the better.

Gaye Kelleway was there along with three or four other trainers enjoying a pint or two in the bar nearest the weighing room along with the self-styled "Colonel" (who nearly pranged with me three meetings ago in the car park). I should have took the hint with Straight Face but you should never change your mind, the old timers say.
As for the Boyle horse Equitrack, the jockey was looking down all the way to the start as if he wasn’t happy with the condition of his mount.

Did someone suggest that a vet take a look at the horse before it ran, Max, or was an enquiry held following what was an appalling performance?
March 4, 2009 at 05:04 #213351No, E. I don’t think there was an enquiry but there were several unhappy punters in the stands.
To be honest, I cannot remember the last stewards up at the sandpit. I’ve commented before that AW stewarding must be the easiest earner in showbusiness. Watch Stateside and you’ll see an Inquiry every three races. Here, it’s every three meetings.
