All the horses I suggested ran poorly with no promise for the future. Moon Mix has cost me enough money now and that’s his lot – and this poor run means I won’t be following the complex John Jenkins yard any longer; (a stable I’ve experimented with this year with zero success).
The most interesting race of the day is the 3.20 at Southwell.
Take Me There
returns. I wrote this last week.
For the future, John Berry was gutted to be in the runners up spot in the winners enclosure after the fourth. Seven of Take Me There’s owners were there and the favourite was well fancied. Possibly the best looking horse I’ve seen at the sandpit this season. Absolutely fine looking animal who will jump a hurdle at least. There’s a race over 1m 6f coming up and Crowley didn’t put Berry off the plan.
Trouble is, the price is skinnier than an anorexic earthworm (though it could drift with the Gask horse in opposition). I prefer to back
Calculating
each way at 11/1. Amazingly well handicapped, proven over the conditions and ridden by Turner. Kempton last week suggested a return to somewhere stiff like the sandpit would be right up his street.
I’m also going to back
Count Cougar
in the sprint at a massive price because he is just too well handicapped to ignore and he won the equivalent/a similar race in January last year.
Best of luck.

Noticed Take Me There myself and think it will take the beating but like you say the price isn’t much to write home about. Wouldn’t be surprised if old Victory Quest sneaked a place. I do quite like Calmdownmate and Punching in the 3.50 with preference for the former who has a handy draw.
You were not alone yesterday with your considerations, mine were atrocious, just as I was thinking better things were ahead. I might look at Wolves tonight but then again………..
January 29, 2009 at 20:23 #207030It happens Aaron, as you know, particularly with low grade animals. To keep it simple, I’ve completely given up at Leafy and was glad to see you’ve taken that one over.
I’ll have a look at Dunstall Park later. Best of luck.
January 30, 2009 at 19:37 #207194Well done for keeping this thread going guys! Blue Hills was a good pick, and Efisio Princess too.
Today, my eye is drawn to the claimer at Lingfield (2:45)…
Essentially, I think Woolston Ferry looks a good thing, and I think My Sweet Georgia doesn’t. It is possible that the blinkers will help, but her form at Southwell may have been more due to the surface, and she looks less well suited to the polytrack.
There are three other horses with a bit of form who should run well, in Art Fund, Cognac Boy and Spinight, and the rest of them look a bit of moderate hotch-potch.
My play (with B365 who offer such things) is:
1st – WOOLSTON FERRY
2nd/3rd (reversed) – Art Fund, Cognac Boy, Spinight6 x £1 tricasts
(odds of between 33/1 and 41/1)[/color:e8aittkn]
February 4, 2009 at 18:04 #208123Lingfield keeps us going this afternoon, apologies for no write up
130L Can Can Star Alt Bee Stinger
305L Wooden King Alt Copperwood
440L Sams Cross Alt Shake On ItFebruary 4, 2009 at 22:16 #208156Quick look at Kempton tonight
750 Tuxedo Alt Duke Of Milan
820 Southandwest Alt DvinskyFebruary 4, 2009 at 22:26 #208159Cracking winner in the first, Aaron – and the third too at a good price.
I thought the Powell horse had won which would have hurt me, I don’t know about you.Best of luck tonight.
February 5, 2009 at 18:28 #2083111.30S Calmdownmate Alt Incomparable
3.30S Captain Macarry Alt Kabeer
4.00S Amber MoonFebruary 5, 2009 at 23:37 #208361I’ll probably be backing Bo McGinty in the 3:30 at Southwell tomorrow. 5f on the Fibresand suits, back on a good mark and was encouraged by the fact that he was so keen last time out over 6f, which isn’t his trip. An open handicap, but if I can get anywhere above 3-1 I’ll be backing him. Only slight irritation is that the Spotlight write-up highlights him but I’m not sure how much that influences the market in this kind of race.
February 6, 2009 at 03:16 #208397Good luck with that one, Andrew. I would possibly back First Order in that (
32
at Southwell) but I’ll leave you to it. A hard race to call. Bets in the last two for me.
McMahon’s horse
Lively Blade
in the 16.05 is worth a small interest. Hadn’t the faintest first time out but got the hang of it when the race was all over.
The two outsiders,
Dahama
and
Spininight
are value against the other three in the 16.35. I’m not sure the Ryan favourite’s defeat of Dancing Wave is any good and the Millman horse is one of the most one paced animals in training.
Dutched, you get 4/1 the rags at current prices and you might get more.
Both stables (Mr Brittain and Mr Botti) are in fine form, enjoy visits to this part of the world, and have potentially improving horses on their hands.
On a rare fingernail buffing note, I’ve got a good record with Clive Brittain’s horses over the years – and on this thread – so lets hope it continues.
Best of luck.

Difficult race that one. I wonder whether Canadian Danehill might have a very decent EW shout here. Has form lines at Southwell through a couple of the fancies here and at the weights CD should be well in with First Order.
Has beaten Bo McGinty here before too.
Whiskey Creek (Tentative bet – if he steps up to the plate he should win but I doubt he will turn up after winning today) and Canadian Danehill (Main Bet) for me
Good luck
February 6, 2009 at 13:26 #208437A wide open handicap, but managed to get 7.2 last night which I was happy with.
I must admit to giving Canadian Danehill only a cursory glance and concluding that he was regressive/untrustworthy or maybe I just didn’t like the name. (Perhaps this explains my lack of success at this game).
Good luck to you both.
Snowing here in Brum this morning, but presumably Southwell is on?
February 6, 2009 at 16:23 #208462Beautiful here, Andrew. Once can almost smell the pineapple and hear the lap of the waves on the sand…
…not really, but at least the roads are clear.

Best of luck to you both. I’m at work but am twagging to see the 3.30.
Aaron, are you doing Wolver tonight? NV?
February 6, 2009 at 16:52 #208465Good morning all. I shall look at Wolves this afternoon Max. With regard to the 3.30 at Southwell, a tricky little race where I could see any of them winning. I shall risk a small wager on The Tatling and reverse the forecast with First Order.
I like the front two in the betting in the first with preference for Isabellas Fancy over Provost. Apart from that nothing else takes my fancy at Southwell today.
February 6, 2009 at 20:44 #208510Good call Aaronizneez
February 6, 2009 at 21:47 #208523Thank you Andrew.
Don’t fancy much at Wolves tonight. Giddywell and Ruwain can fight out the 6.50 with preference for the former. In the 8.50 I’m going with Admiral Bond to come late and pick up pacemaker Triskaidekaphobia and thats yer lot.
February 6, 2009 at 22:27 #208535Nice one Aaron. 7/1. Good luck tonight.
