I’d like to think that Cornus could be a good E/W bet in the 3.35 Lingfield at a big price

Nice place, Rockytony. Wasn’t given the hardest ride ever; plenty left in the tank, I thought.

    Anyroad, Kempers.

Race 1: Banded race. Have given them up for Lent. No bet.
Race 2: Cornerstone, (drawn high, recent run, front runner, Kempton specialist on top) is the obvious play, if with another yard.
    Race 3: No bet
Race 4: Shouldntbethere and Binnion Bay (NB) are the two horses proven in small fields; the latter in particular (31314) in small fields (<8 runners). Is unbeaten at Kempton in these conditions. The rest of the field all seem to need a pace to run at and this one is 5/1.
    Race 5: No bet
    Race 6: No bet
Race 7: Ocean Rock (Nap) is 161 at Kempton and has won after a break at the course. I would prefer Baker on, but Whitworth can do a job. 10/1 is the bet of the year so far – if the horse is fit and ready.

    Best of luck

Thanks for that Max, I think your right about Ocean Rock looks a big price to me, if fit got to be in the shake up

Is it me, or is everything a dismal price at the minute? Binnion (who was the first beaten was 4/1) and Ocean (who ran really well, but wasn’t really tuned up for tonight – better with George Baker) being 7/1?

When I wrote all this, they were a good bit bigger. No real damage done.

    Southwell: 7th Feb notes.

Race 2: Came Back has ideal conditions today:

    41252 Southwell
    4125 Southwell 6f
    41 Southwell 6f Class 6
    1 Southwell 6f Class 6 in Feb.

Race 3: Salut St Cloud. runs 1214 in Southwell distance races.
Race 5: Dudley Docker is 221 over 7f at the track.

    Race 7: Anduril (Nap)

On January 19th, I fancied Anduril to do well in a muppet race at Wolverhampton – a race in which he ran moderately. However, an idea came to me in the aftermath of the misery:

As a confirmed hold-up performer, Anduril was never going to be suited by the new Wolverhampton oval. Headgear, 1m, Class 6 and Southwell (where, strangely, hold-up performers are showing their form) would be the obvious plan for this enigmatic beast.

Anduril runs off 48 today; his lowest ever mark, in a Class 6, at Southwell, with cheekpieces on for the first time in an age. (The RP Spotlight writer has this one wrong; he’s a Southwell horse).

If he’s on the game, he wins on the bridle against some animals best off in the Classified ranks. If he’s not, then he’s out the back.

Shifty and Mister Benji will ensure a good pace for Anduril to run at. He is ridden by the strongest jockey in the race – a “job” jockey – and is currently 11/1. He won’t get better handicapped. Anduril has been twice placed from three starts at Southwell including an unlucky runner up placing to the classy Smart Ass; nothing in this neo-Banded field would get within five lengths of that filly. And he raced off 64 that day. Over the same course and distance.

On both occasions Anduril wore cheekpieces, which return today for the first time since.

Will be Lucky 15-ing the mentioned horses and have backed Anduril at some decent prices last night. Off to Southwell any minute; back for Wolver later. Cheers lads – and the best of luck today. 8)

I’ve got Salut Saint Cloud down as a wheel barrow job today. He’s been nicely pissed around with over unsuitable trips on polytrack and is down to 50 today. His 5 handicap wins to date have been gained off BHA marks of 61, 63, 55, 53 and 53. Chiff Chaff looks a potential danger after unsurprisingly proving well suited by a step up to 2m last time but she’s yet to show she’s as effective on fibresand. Mujamead faces a much stiffer task than in banded races and is another that needs to prove he can act on fibresand. Same comments apply re; Squiffy who ran deplorably on his only previous try on the surface.

Mischief Making looks to be going the right way and can only improve for the step up to 11f. Surface shouldn’t be a problem being by a Belmont winner and she looks potentially much better than the majority of her rivals.

Cheers lads. :D A good day – not often a plan comes together as well as that.

Aaron, horrible card tonight…like many at Wolver lately. A dicey one at Southwell tomorrow too – there’ll be plenty more blanks before the Lincoln!

DJ: about the Moore horse. I was surprised at how badly it drifted and how poorly it ran. The gelding was never seen with a chance at any stage, as you saw.

I went to watch it being unsaddled, primarily to eavesdrop on connections (which Southwell is great for). On dismounting, Whitworth was a bit frosty with the two stable reps. He appeared unhappy with the riding instructions he recieved. He felt the horse is best off making the running, it seems; there weren’t many pleasantries exchanged.

The Panto Villain was upsetting people again with his Claims. :D

    Best of luck tomorrow.

Thanks for the info Max. Did you happen to see the horse in the paddock beforehand. Watching the replay, I noticed he was a bit sweaty on his neck and wondered if he’d got in any sort of a state beforehand.

    Nice work with Anduril.

I didn’t see the horse beforehand, DJ, or going down.

However, Salut looked completely knackered in the unsaddling enclosure – and lets face it, Whitworth didn’t hammer it in the last three. I reckon there’s another day with this one.
