Welcome back slippery, and well done Max – hope you got on early!
Looked at the Kempton 7:20 tonight, and agree that Appalachian Trail is probably worth opposing stepping back up in trip and on the sand having done so well over shorter on turf in the last couple of years.
I appreciate the attraction of Very Wise, but that heartbeat thing is a bit of a worry as is the fact that he is probably on a stiff enough mark on the sand now.
The most interesting horse for me ran well last time and is well in with those who finished around him. Tactically versatile, a multiple polytrack winner (including here), and ideally suited by this trip, my selection is ORCHARD SUPREME.
I don’t see many dangers here – the aforementioned Appalachian Trail and Very Wise do both have chances but are more easily opposed than fancied – but would agree (again) that Raptor has an interesting profile and could go very well.
ORCHARD SUPREME – £4 win
Orchard Supreme + Raptor – 2 x £1 reversed exacta[/color:3dwwvbmf]December 1, 2007 at 10:52 #128102Winthorpe (9.20 Wolverhampton) is todays class angle He’s a notch above the Class 6 opposition competing at Dunstall Park tonight and despite all the enthusiasm for JJ Quinn’s countrywide raid today, I suspect this is the stables’ best chance of a winner.
RPR top rated, (tonight’s 54 is his lowest mark ever in 85 runs); punted last time, stays 7f well enough – probably needs it now as he gets older and only just beaten last January in a Class 5 over track and trip in a better race than this.
The books go 9/1 and it looks an each way bet to nothing. Kempton looks too difficult once again. Am backing the possibly rejuvenated Sir Rembrandt and the Gold Cup winner 2008 Denman in singles and forecasts in todays twighopping highlight, in case you’re interested.

Best of luck.
December 6, 2007 at 17:47 #129164I feel a bit aggrieved about the last bet. I took 11 on bf before I went to football. All day, I was happy that I was getting value.
Boy, did I get that wrong. God knows what price Quinn’s horse hit pre-race! 2nd at 14/1.Tonight, I fancy course specialist Adam Kirby to ride an explosive race on Little Firecracker.in the opening nursery at Dunstall Park.
On the face of it, this one has little chance, but Blidworth trainer Mrs Rowland puts Adam on her triers and this ex-Cumani horse didn’t run too badlyafter missing the break last time out over track and trip under an apprentice.
Kirby’s mount has close up form in a Class 4 at Leicester off 68. Now off 61 and drawn well in 4 – this one should run better and is currently 16/1.
Best of luck.

9.20 wolves
interests me off top weight in this company
running below winning mark with a good 7lb claimer on board
small each way claims.

ran well for some of the way but effort faded after home turn and finished out with the washing….December 8, 2007 at 01:44 #129475Lingfield 3:05 – 3.05 Arenaleisureplc Com Handicap
Councellor ran a career best last time out and needs to find more improvement today. Fajr is respected stepping up to his preferred distance. Negative is that he is creeping up the handicap without winning.
Siding with Waterside who was proven to be just below listed class, last time out. Today he is running in his grade and he’ll run his race at a tasty price.
December 27, 2007 at 11:46 #132055We haven’t really got going on this thread so far this year, but there is plenty of time yet!
I still have plenty of time for staying events on proper dirt tracks and the 2:15 at Southwell today catches my eye.
To keep things short (and hopefully sweet), I don’t really rate the races won by Bentley Brook or Kylkenny (bless his cotton socks) recently but was very taken with SATINDRA’s fibresand-debut win.
Admittedly, the runner-up that day (Propaganda) is a proper dawg, but they pulled an awfully long way clear and Satindra has shown a very willing attitude recently both when winning that day and in defeat at Kempton. We might just be looking at an all-weather specialist on the up and at 7/1+, I’m definitely a player!
SATINDRA – £10 win[/color:336ct644]
Come on![/color:336ct644]
December 27, 2007 at 13:22 #132069Agreed NV with the lack of posts on this thread. My excuss is that my day job and my own punting activities are keeping me busy but will try and post comments on the better A/W races in the new year.
Slippery.
December 31, 2007 at 13:17 #132593Like the look of Gaelic Princess in 2.50 today, she looks to have been in against slightly better company than Ho Watchalike and Lobengula.
Although not guaranteed here , there could be a nice gallop to come off and she could go very close
Worth an interesting imo
December 31, 2007 at 14:36 #132602Happy New Year Sandmen.
Been busy with Christmas, illness, kids, a terrible football team and the usual hindrances to a gambling man.(My! That Thornton ride. And he’s still at liberty? It was like watching an episode of "Life on Mars" where the seventies coppers go to the races).
Anyroad, on topic. Ryan has a likely one in the 3.50 with Danetime Lord..
On paper, the evidence is compelling: this is a horse who needs a recent run, (form figures of 215131 when coming back to the track within 13-18 days) and the horse loves Wolverhampton (5115431).
For runs at Wolverhampton at 7f after the same break you get a win and a third. He has won in Class 4 too – best of all, he’s 10/1. A heavily backed second at Lingfield two runs back suggests that he’s well and you can forgive any horse in the country a run at the Dantesque Hell that is Kempton.
Anyroad, the best of luck in 2008.
December 31, 2007 at 15:34 #132608All the best Maxilon, you make a good case for DL
Like the young Mr Wheldon i’m thinking Monkey Glas is a good e/w proposition .
Decent run last two and i’m thinking the drop to 7f around Wolves could suit
December 31, 2007 at 16:04 #132610Cheers Charlie – and welcome aboard.
I’m gutted with that – I followed the drift all the way to 21 and feel aggrieved with the Starkeylike Mulrennan ride. But hey, thats racing.
Best of luck this winter.
January 3, 2008 at 19:20 #133193Two for Dunstall Park on a freezing January evening.
8.50 Mr Chocolate Drop was spotted running on very nicely mid race at Southwell the other day before fading in the final furlong of a mile handicap. (Best at 7f). The handicapper has dropped Miss Rowland’s horse another 7lb – funny, after such a relatively promising run – down to 42. Promising apprentice O Reilly retains the ride and Blidworth trainer Miss Rowland has been unlucky just lately. This one tries Banded company for the first time and has a squeak at a massive price – taken 60 and 55.
9.20 Claret and Amber Just dropped a mail to ATR about this one. I quite fancy this to run better than it’s odds (16) suggest. This one was hammered by the handicapper after an excellent 2-y-o campaign. There are some interesting numbers:
Less than 8 runners: 216
After a break of over 100 days: 302
Mile in Class 4: 5216The rest of the field – including the forecast favourite – have big weaknesses. Gibson gets off the favourite to ride this one and he has a winner and a second for Fahey in his last four runs for the stable.
Best of luck anyroad.

January 4, 2008 at 10:50 #133277A few fancies at Wolverhampton tonight
6.50 I’m surprised that Glenridding is the forecast favourite. Only won a maiden last time and its previous runs over 9.5F aren’t anything special. The one I like is the other likely pacesetter Mighty Mover who when winning a couple of runs back had decent yardstick Prince Noel and recent improver Tanforan behind that day. A decent bet at 7/1 or greater. The one I would be wary of is the top weight Western Roots who was a little unlucky last time and will appreciate the anticipated good gallop. An exacta with the two is a probability.
7.50 A poor lot and I think if Blackheath can lie handy which it should do from stall 5 then he should win. 6/1 or greater is a bet for me
8.50 Fine Rulers 2nd last time out stands out for me. If Four Tel who beat him last time out was in the race he’d be odds on (notwithstanding that this is a maiden of course !). Far Seeking also has form with Four Tel and would rate the main danger however I am tempted to go for a place on Lily La Belle who showed some ability in a C&D maiden last September.
I am tempted to take 2/1 about Fine Ruler but I might wait till tonight to decide. A small EW on Lily La Belle at 25/1 or greater.
9.20 I’m going to take on Obe Royal with one that finished behind him last time. Alto Vertigo was favourite to beat Obe Royal but didn’t dominate as when winning three runs back. Tonight he may be able to get to the front tonight and could prove difficult to pass. For the forecast I would put up Northern Boy who has been consistent over C&D and whose last run I’m ignoring as it was run over further.
Alto Vertigo 6/1 or greater. Exacta with Northern Boy
January 4, 2008 at 18:50 #133349Great shout on Mr Choc Drop Max, another stride and he was up. I part-owned the winner but sold him before the race, was glad for the new owner.
January 4, 2008 at 21:51 #133396Cheers carvills.
Nice bit of business for the future to sell a winner imo. Hope you backed it!Can’t say it didn’t hurt though. It did. Been keeping an eye on this one ever since it joined Miss Rowland – who has been pretty unlucky lately.
Good pick on the winner of the nightcap, aaronizneez. Wolver is running like a frontrunners track at the moment.

Best of luck with the fiendish Lingers card tomorrow, Sandmen.

January 4, 2008 at 23:25 #133421Cheers Max
Bit of a mixed evening. Didn’t get the prices I wanted on Alto Vertigo, Fine Ruler or Mighty Mover of the ones I mentioned. I also missed the price on Fresh Mint. I did however manage to get a saver on Calloffthesearch at nearly 6/1 which covered the nights betting. Copped the tricast in the last to small stakes to make a small profit on the evening.
Lingfield & Kempton tomorrow but no Wolverhampton
January 4, 2008 at 23:56 #1334236.50 Kempton I’m plumping for Fateful Attraction at a decent price. Has run well the last twice over C&D and its last run at Lingfield has thrown up three winners since. I have Dinner Date as the danger who has also shown good form over C&D recently
Don’t really fancy much else although Rhapsilian& Stormbust could be the two for the 820 with maybe Anfield Dream running well at a price.
At Lingfield I will be giving Ryans Future a closer look in the 1235 , Orange Square may upset the market leaders in the 215 and Millville who saves his best for the 12F distance in the 245 is the only other one I will consider.
