A grand total of five races are run over the Grand National course every year, with a four and a half month gap between the first two races and the other three.

Why then, did the nitwits in charge at the course see fit to rail off half of the course for this particular meeting? Surely it wasn’t to "save ground", so presumably they simply couldn’t be arsed to prepare the whole track.

The beauty of the Grand National course is its width, therefore giving the majority of horses in each race the opportunity to get a good view of the fences. Granted, the field sizes today were certainly not of Grand National proportions, but they were still significantly bigger than your average handicap chase, so railing off so much of the course (it appeared to be at least half) could hardly have helped.

It didn’t help the viewing process either, with some of the shots from the mobile cameras being partially obscured by two or three lots of railings. And don’t get me started on the ridiculous "camera on a string" that they appear to have installed at Becher’s Brook!!

Aye, that Bechers camera was a bit weird. Without the benefit of course knowledge, you’d not have known they were at Bechers until the leaders were practically already clearing it!

A bit of an over-egging of the clever tricks pudding by Auntie Beeb there, I thought.

Clearly the commentator didn’t know where he was GC.

Apologies as I don’t know which commentator it was (as the BBC changed them every 2 fences lol), but he said something on the lines of "the one before Beechers", only for next few fences to be plain fences  When they got to Beechers, he did apologise for his error.

I didn’t take much notice of the race yesterday, but did they not jump ‘The Chair’ either? If they did then once again, apologies, but if they didn’t, is this normal in this race?

It was Barty who got confused, which is surprising as he is usually pretty good.

Yes they did jump the chair in both races …. however it was shown as a long shot from the grandstand camera, which is a shame as that is one fence, IMO, which does benefit from a good close up shot.

It was Ian Bartlett that got caught out. I think all the commentators used apart from the Croc usually have their own eyries strategically placed out in the country, but I’m wondering if Barty was in the grandstand instead this time and just using a monitor (wonky Beeb cameras and all) rather than his bins.
