Last Friday the Tote told me that I could no longer bet with them, having bet with them for years, unless I provided photo Id and a recent bill in my name to prove who I was and also proceeded to refuse to explain the situation apart from telling me I had reached my deposit limit (£750). I explained to them that the deposit limit is not relevant as I had made withdrawals of over a thousand pounds in this calendar year alone, so in point of fact I was winning !! The person I spoke to says that winning or losing is not why they had contacted me but because I had reached the deposit limit. After much too-ing and fro-ing I told them I wished to close the account and that they must remove my card and bank details from their records. To be honest I was most disappointed because I like having tote placepots and exactas and having the placepot insurance they offer too! But I was not willing to go down the BIG BROTHER route of them having more and more details about me and didn’t want to be dictated to as to when and how much I could bet. Where will it all end??
Thoughts anyone …………………
May 20, 2021 at 18:06 #1541604If you go on to the Betfair exchange site there is a link to the Tote which I sometimes use if I want to place a exacta etc. The bet is done through my Betfair account not though a Tote account.
May 20, 2021 at 19:18 #1541609You can see why they are introducing tighter restrictions because of the amount if people ruining their lives getting into huge amounts of debt
Problem is it inadvertently affects everyone who is in control most of whom will happily send off some ID to verify an account but sending off bank details is another matter
May 20, 2021 at 20:12 #1541612personally I don’t have a problem with the principle of providing ID etc regards affordability but its each to their own in that regard. I am very sceptical that my personal ID and information would be safe with the Tote however. I work in the IT industry and its amazing how many multi million/ billion pound companies spend a the bare minimum on IT security and we get drafted in to do “secret” projects when their networks are being held to ransom by criminal hackers.
The recent case of an American firm paying $4.4M to criminal hackers just to get their network back up and running will only encourage more criminals to try.
I would fancy the Tote systems would be vulnerable to an attack judging by the quality of their website which is clunky at best.
So I would be weary about them holding any more than the bare minimum of information on their database.
I don’t mean to scaremonger by cyber attacks are a worrying reality.

May 31, 2021 at 18:33 #1542873Now William Hill have done the same as the Tote!! What the hell is going on ? I am fed up with people trying to “nanny state” me !!
May 31, 2021 at 20:16 #1542886We’ll end up going back to the pre- May 1961 days when most betting was done on the backstreets with unlicensed bookies – replacing a perceived problem with a genuine problem.
May 31, 2021 at 20:40 #1542891Thats a point Paul – there will be some Sopranos-style shananighans occuring. I hadn’t thought of that, but I agree I can see it happening.

May 31, 2021 at 21:01 #1542893Sadly it is the age we live in. Surely they must have enough info about you already raymo61. Your bank details, card details etc what difference does a photo id make and a recnt bill. I just don’t get it
June 1, 2021 at 16:53 #1542962That is the main reason I don’t want to be sending photos of my passport or driving licence Droffats !!
And I agree that they will drive gambling underground and then it will be worse as far as monitoring is concerned !! - AuthorPosts
