May 31, 2013 at 12:13 #441268still be kicking your cat if it wins and not backing it at 66/1

Here’s Gord telling the cat what Darren said, he did.

Tell you something Nath,we’ve had some right numpties on here and I have a bad habit of attracting them, thankfully I single handedly have chased them all off!

Time to go in again on
Liber Nauticus
methinks,I do rate this filly highly.I backed Ole Stouteys
Aliysa
at 25/1 for the 1989 renewal and cant believe he hasn’t won it since!
Time to put that right!Liber Nauticus
£100 e/w 11/2 William hill Oaks.
June 1, 2013 at 08:32 #441417Here we go again! This time though I can sit cool calm and collected with a glass of Champagne chilled at 6.5 degrees. The pressure of the Ante-Post Kingdom bearing down on its King is off today as I identified
Dawn Approach
as the 2013,2000gns winner and backed him accordingly, the mission was accomplished……..In style!
I did say way back in June last year he’d win the Derby too,he was 25/1 then but I never pushed my luck,I still believe he will win today but those taking 7/4 are doing so knowing at the 2 pole, its make or break time.In my little world Kevin asks him to put the race to bed at that point and off he strolls, simple really!
Those of us who call themselves ‘Traditionalists’ are pleased to see him being tested today,No kid glove treatment here,no crappy excuses, this is what we realists want to see a Champion a Versatile Champion who wins over the Guineas Mile, goes to Epsom and faces a unique test of mind and Power over the 11/2m then hits Sandown over the intermediate trip of the Eclipse, over to Ascot for the King George then the Arc.Yep thats what Real Champions do! Will ‘Dawn Approach’ continue that journey today? I hope so but if he doesn’t at least he tried!June 1, 2013 at 13:57 #441460The prophets of doom and gloom keep preaching how
Dawn approach
cant win this years Derby because of his breeding.Yes its clear as day his dams side possess no stamina beyond a mile but then again every bloodline relative was American bred going right back to 1968.Those who assess horses strictly on breeding will end up in the poor house quicker than those who follow the Red Chalk. Now and again a horses visual performance is enough to say whether a horse will stay or not and I believe ‘Dawn approaches’ 2000gns run suggests he will.Todays race will see the Coolmore colts controlling the fractions,’Flying the flag’ has to set off like a scolded cat,he will fold quickly by the 4 pole,’Festive Cheer’ should be maintaining the pace to the 2 pole where ‘Battle of Marengo’ is expected to be challenging,I personally see ‘Ruler of the world’ setting sail for home and he is the horse I fear most,I’d also expect ‘Libertarian’ to run a place today too.So how is the Big Chestnut horse with No stamina going to win? Particularly off fractions that suggest Coolmore have a ‘Relay Team’ competing against him, well Kevin will switch him off and I have to say its going to be ‘Dancing Brave’ style tactics but if he covers the first 2 furlongs asleep and even though they will go helter skelter its still going to be the slowest 2 furlongs this fellow will have covered in a race he’ll move through the field on the bridle in the middle part of the race.Kevin knows if he’s going to win he has to be mid div coming down the hill into Tattenham corner,at this point there can be no hard luck stories,no blocked passages as its his momentum coming off the bend that will give him the progressive power he’ll need to pass horses that wont be stopping,if all this goes to plan then
Dawn approach
can beat this field on his way to becoming another racing legend!
June 1, 2013 at 15:09 #441465That wasn’t pleasant viewing I thought ‘New approach’ was a beaten horse 5 years ago and miraculously he still won for a horse who just never settled.
Dawn approach
made his sire look like he was asleep, that was horrible! He’ll be back to fight another day in a race that tactically beat him the moment the gates opened!
On a pleasing note its fantastic that theDuke of Marmalades
half brother won as the Duke was no slouch either!
June 1, 2013 at 17:27 #441497First thing I thought after today’s race was ‘I hope TAPK was on the winner because he’s been going on about The Duke for a while’. And then wondered why I hadn’t thought to back ROTW [which I didn’t].

Well you got your answer Gordy! They are not machines my friend. Perhaps you now see why Sir Henry got it ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON in his handling of the TRUE great one. I fear for your horse after today’s experience.

I have access to every Horse in Training Moe via various publications and the Internet,I was aware of
Ruler of the world
last year but the penny didn’t drop until he won his maiden in April that he was actually the
Duke of Marmalades
half brother,I could have taken the 33/1 then about his Derby chances but I was adamant
Trading Leather
was this years winner…………And todays result suggests I wouldn’t have been far wrong!
Its well documented on here that I felt todays winner was the only horse I feared simply because I expected ‘Ruler of the world’ to improve again on only his 3rd run over a trip he’s bred for,I never had a penny on him though but I can live with that as todays result only bolsters my confidence in finding Class horses!

Couldn’t agree more Joni, but I’m a philosopher of the Glass half full theory and a better to have tried and failed than never to have tried at all policy is how I live my life. What happened to
Dawn approach
today was a shock,he as Kevin Manning described was ‘Out of Control’ and his run was a total non-event.My concern now though is will he do that again, its easy to say like I did earlier that the first 2 furlongs would be the slowest he’s encountered but he’s done half speed work at home that would have been slower and he’s not chucked the dummy out before,he actually carried on like a horse who had been stung by a bee incredibly. As for future engagements I can only imagine he’ll miss the Eclipse and go straight to Goodwood back to a mile with ‘Leitir Mor’ setting the pace,I’ll forgive him his run today but I sympathise for those who took fancy Derby prices last year.
June 2, 2013 at 11:53 #441576I completely agree Gord – heaven knows how the horse will bounce back from that. It was car crash TV. So bad some people are even suggesting he was got at.
Let’s also remember that this happened to a horse who, according to his trainer, had the perfect temperament. Jim was at pains to tells us how this horse was so relaxed and that nothing would faze him. Yet 7 runs between 5f and 8f have taught this horse to run in a way that was the polar opposite to what he was asked to do yesterday.
We would never know but if a horse as switched off and laid back as Dawn Approach couldn’t handle it do we really think that the 3 year old Frankel would have? Especially coming off the back of his Guineas run!
It is easy to be wise after the event but Bolger himself must have had grave doubts as he had not even entered him as a yearling.
Now be honest – given the choice would you a)rather a horse tries a trip that his trainer doesn’t believe he will get and flop spectacularly like yesterday and perhaps ruin him for good or b) let the trainer run over him the distance he thinks is right and win 14 races in incredible style and become the greatest horse of all time?
I am also a glass half full man Gord and I would go for option B every time.

June 2, 2013 at 16:29 #441609Gord what you think of the derby this year and how you think the horses will progress thought MARS unlucky. never got a run much better next time any horses for st leger i like
GALLEIO ROCK
LEADING LIGHT.Future gold cup winner too. Also you see french derby too today my INTELLO won easy best performance by a 3yo this year.People now saying on breeding he not stay 1m4 i say he will could be another DAWN APPROACH saga on if he stay 1m4 or not. i say INTELLO my 16/1 to win arc looks good.

Gord what your thoughts on INTELLO as well then stayed on very strong at finish on sunday from worst draw. 3strides would of won a step up in trip for him i say.
As for this
Intello
,I still cant believe ‘Peslier’ chose ‘Anodin’……..Very strange decision but he was an unlucky loser imo who has to go French Derby now,I wouldn’t oppose him for sure……With Peslier back on!

Darren Its nothing to brag about but every man and his dog could see
Intello
was a good thing for today,he is an Arc horse now so dont fret over that mate.Well done taking 16/1!

Again you are quite right Joni but you have to realise Sheikh Mohammed has the last word,I still maintain had
Dawn approach
settled he’d have carried them over a 11/2m.I dont believe this years Derby was anything special having watched the race several times now and as much as I like the winner he aint no Arc winner like my pal
Workforce
was! Team Coolmore played a blinder, like I said before Team Tactics won the day and there’s nothing in the rule book to say they cant do what they did,run the race again and
Libertarian
wins everytime.
June 2, 2013 at 21:42 #441639Happy Birthday Gary GDC,hope you had a great time at Epsom mate and are paying the price now, headache and hangover!

Agree 100% on
Intello
Darren, looks like the stand out three year old and the only Arc contender I like at the moment. I’m also sitting on 16/1 which I’m very happy about
I backed Ruler Of The World on Saturday but he doesn’t look like an Arc horse to me either.I’m glad you mentioned
Leading Light
as after his Gallinule win I also thought he looked like a possible Cup horse for the future. He looked incredibly tough from the front that day and a step up in trip will surely see him improve on that performance.
June 3, 2013 at 13:42 #441686Cheers, the hangover is just clearing now

Will complete a resume of the 3 days darn sarff as soon as I am compus mentis
