It might not have the best view of the racing but few if any racecourses look better.

Breezy at Prestbury Park today. A gust caused Barry “Pinno” Pinnington’s cap to fly off his head and I retrieved it for him.

I am convinced there is more than one Pinno. He is everywhere.

CAS, fantastic picture, it is stunning on a good day, Ill be there May 2nd. Thats for Hunter Chase evening meeting is just a great night out, even better since they changed it from a Wednesday to a Friday a few years ago and only £20..Oh and the beer price is the same as the festival..

It is a great view, isn’t it? Maybe only Goodwood rivals it for a setting.

It is a pity the Arkle Bar in the course no longer has a link to the Arkells Brewery. It did briefly have beers by a local microbrewery but now it only serves the usual Guinness and lagers now.

I didn’t bother with a pint there yesterday. Instead, I visited the Sandford Park Alehouse before and after racing. A good choice of better beer than anything available in the racecourse and about £3 cheaper.

Enjoy the Hunter Chase evening! I expect Ian Davies, formerly from this parish, will be there (but not in the Sandford).

Had to go to Cambridge this morning, so decided to travel up to Yarmouth for a few races.
Not impressed with the general layout, when compared to Nottingham which I went to the other week and is about the same standard.

Id suggest not walking around with a portion of chips, the gulls are very experienced.
Coffee Latte £3.30, had two from different places, it was like an americana with milk added. I think the coffee making unit was ..not in perfect working order.

I think Ive seen three very nice horses there today, who should do well this season.
Maelstrom trained by Haggis, a strong looking grey who won the 0-68 6 furlong handicap with ease.
Keble Spirit trained by the Gosdens, won with a bit in hand to my eye in the 0-68 10 furlong handicap.
Queen of Thieves again trained by the Gosdens, won the 12 furlong maiden by a street.
I backed all three as the trainers were present on track.

Sorry ive no pictures, I just didnt think..

I have only visited Yarmouth once. It was about 20 years ago for a meeting towards the end of October. It had a distinctly end of season feel about it and the town had a rather forlorn, out of season look.

I thought the track was OK but nothing special, although the weather was awful and I may not have seen it at its best.

Something I remember is going to the Wetherspoons before racing and seeing all the stalls handlers. I think they had been there for breakfast before heading out to the course.

Went to Royal Windsor last night (thats what the sign post said), smaller facilities than expected, no winners for me.
Funniest moment I have ever seen, Sean Leavy strode into the parade ring looking for his mount in the third race, only to find he was there a race too early..
He did laugh walking back to the weighing room.
Id go again, 1 hour each way by car. Maybe look at the boat taxi one day (obviously not from me house).

I used to work quite near to Windsor. I went to almost every Monday night fixture that year.

I have not visited for a while but it is still one of my favourite courses. The view of the racing is not the best but I always found it a pleasant track to attend.

I would certainly recommend getting the boat there and back. It adds to the charm and the view of the castle on the return journey is beautiful.

The view is poor, Ill agree.
The boat is certainly on the agenda, perhaps a overnight and a few beers will be good.

I am going to Wolverhampton later for a rare midweek afternoon meeting. I am not sure why it has to start as late as 2.45pm.

The good news is: Thommo will be the commentator! My last chance to hear the great man in action. Let’s hope a few races are “going to be close” resulting in a “PHOTO” before Derek “leaves it to the judge”.

I have not looked yet to see if any of the races have a “red hot favourite”.

It was good to see Ninth Crusade get punted off the boards from 6/5 to 8/15 in the opening race yesterday. It allowed Derek to inform us he was “the red hot favourite”.

He didn’t quite “win like an odds on favourite should” but he got the job done and the 6/5 paid for the expenses.

Wolverhampton looks like a building site at the moment because a greyhound circuit is being constructed in the middle of the track. I remember hearing about it but I did not realise the work is so advanced.

The new track is to replace Perry Barr Stadium, where the lease is due to expire.

Another one gone to the Dogs..Im so amazed my old local track Towcester, is still operating solely with dogs.
Not much of a catchment area and certainly has spoiled the view across the old Horse racing track.
One can book the lake for fishing if one wants too..says it all really.

In hindsight, it needed a Windsor type intervention, a special weekend, with good prize money.
    Maybe one day..itll return.

I hadn’t heard about that, building a dog track in the current climate is a brave move!

I hope the weather is as pleasant up there as it is down here.

The Greyhound Derby final is at Towcester on Saturday. I suppose it is a sign of the times that it is not being shown by any television channel. Instead it is being live streamed on YouTube on the “Gone To The Dogs” channel. The name of which seems grimly appropriate..

What’s happened to Droopys Kathleen? Have they not been able to bring her back from injury?
