RIP to all the following recent fatalities and to any others I’ve not come across:-

    Nowzedetime @ Uttoxeter yesterday
    Zarilan @ Pontefract 16 Sept
Glen Shiel @ Kempton 3 Sept (just 3 years old, already had 15 races with 9 different jockeys)
Mythical Prince @ Ffos Las 27 Aug (2nd of only 2 finishers by 50 lengths – should’ve been pulled up methinks)
Annibale Caro @ Perth 21 Aug (48 previous starts on flat, a/w, hurdle, chase)
Smoothly does it @ Hereford 18 Aug (pulled up fatal injury, very sad after 60 previous starts)
    Interdiamonds @ Carlisle 18 Aug (4 year old, 1 win & 8 2nds out of 14 starts)

Hoping none of you suffered too much.

Thanks for posting these and hope you don’t mind me asking Mort but is there any particular reason you chose the French word for "dead" as your username and do you intend posting about any racing subjects other than deceased horses?

I’ve posted on lots of topics in the past, but have been fairly quiet over the summer as I’ve been busy with my own horses and not all that into flat racing. I acquired the name Mort many moons ago when on a jumping clinic where there were 2 Vickis – so to avoid confusion the instructor abbreviated my surname to Mort and it’s stuck ever since. But yep a bit unfortunate when posting in the memorials forum!

Always makes me think of Uncle Mort in I Didn’t Know You Cared [one of my favourite comedy characters of all time].

Sadly you have confirmed what I feared regarding Annibale Caro. I knew he had broken down at Perth but couldn’t confirm his fate, even from those close by, otherwise I would certainly have posted a memorial. A regular campaigner on the Scottish circuit and it’s sad to see him go.

    R.I.P. all 7 horses.
