I think there is no way War Of Words (first past the post) should have been disqualified. Yes, he drifted a bit to his left, however Stefano Cherchi had his whip in the correct (left) hand and there was no way for the Fav to get through a gap that never existed. In fact the winner kept on pretty well and Crenelle was simply given a poor ride.
It’s just a bad decision to reward someone for a very poor ride and take the win away from the best horse in the race.
April 1, 2022 at 19:01 #1590662I didn’t see the race live but have just watched the replay and would have to agree.
It was absolutely farcical to DQ the winner but it makes it so much easier for these incompetent stewards when the trainer and jockey are relative nobodies.
As has been said a million times, the frustrating thing is the lack of consistency from these stewards who, quite frankly, I wouldn’t trust to open a can of beans. One minute the result stands when a horse gets absolutely murdered and then this…
If they started disqualifying every horse that drifted off a true line then we might as well all jack it in now.
April 1, 2022 at 19:09 #1590665It was Harley who kept switching the horse all the time. About two furlongs from home he almost clipped Franklin Williams’ (finished a close 4th) heels and had to re-switch the horse to the middle section of the track.
But as you’ve pointed out MC, the lack of consistency is quite frustrating. Sometimes you don’t even get a SE after such an incident. Maybe, they have a short look at it, but that’s it. Result stands and no one complains.
April 1, 2022 at 19:58 #1590669Is this intended as a spoof, only April Fool jokes are supposed to be made before midday.
There was no disqualification in the race discussed.
April 1, 2022 at 20:23 #1590671Well, Racing Post results say ” Following a stewards’ inquiry, War Of Words, who passed the post 1st, was disqualified and placed 3rd – caused interference. Wendell’s Lad was awarded the race and Crenelle was placed 2nd.”
April 2, 2022 at 08:22 #1590726My apologies – when I looked at the official stewards report online just before I posted – i.e. two hours after the race – it made no mention of a disqualification. And the result page on the same site (Britishhorseracing.com) also showed no amendment to the original result.
April 2, 2022 at 10:02 #1590746Here’s a collectors’ item – an Alan Potts error!
I regard Alan’s every word as gospel and went back to double check the result – even after seeing it I was still inclined to think Alan must be right and the form book must be wrong!
Who had the 33/1 about this?
Even if you did, I’d say you bet under the odds – I’d have wanted 5,000/1 at least!
All good fun, though.
