I kept the simple formula on how my lbs. per length formula was calculated to myself so nobody could hijack the idea as it took me 4 months to complete the task

Dave Edwards "Top Speed" of the Racing Post uses 3.54lbs per length for all distances of around 5f no matter what course the races are run at, this also includes odd distances like the 5f11y trip at Bath, I have a different lbs. per length variant for every different trip and course.
When I spoke to Dave recently, I asked him why he used the same lbs. per length scale for the downhill 5f trip at Epsom and then apply the same calculation to the 5f trip at Pontefract where the last two furlongs are run uphill.
As you know Dave Edwards has been revising the Racing Post standard times and he changed the 1 mile times at Doncaster by 1 second, the Post’s lbs per length figure of 2.3 lbs stayed constant, I changed mine, who is right here, you can make your own mind up on this topic.
When
Stone Of Folca
won the 5 furlong dash at Epsom on Saturday covering the trip in 53.69s this was the fastest ever digitally recorded time and the Post will still use 3.54 lbs per length and I have it at 3.64 lbs. per length so when you calculate the speed figure to 9-0 you end up with a lower speed figure.
How you compile your speed figures and what method you use is your choice, I believe my lbs. per length variants are correct, other people would say The Post’s are right.
You haven’t received any revised standard times yet, I am not surprised at all, Dave Edwards sometimes takes a week to publish the going corrections, I can work out this out ten minutes after the last race is run, he is not very good at managing his time.
