Darren i would be very hopeful….the fact she won a maiden that ties with form from St Nicholas Abbey is a solid starting point.
She could be anything next year….
Wouldnt put you off at all

What do you mean by saying her maiden win ties her in with ST Nicholas Abbey.Hope you can let me know
December 30, 2009 at 19:07 #266512Wallace hope you can explain to me what you mean by sayin her form ties her in with ST Nicholas Abbey.
December 30, 2009 at 22:59 #266565Gerald could you tell me what Wallace meant by his comment
And any 2yos out there who could win the ST Leger next year.
December 30, 2009 at 23:15 #266569I didn’t fully investigate it a couple of days ago Darren. I think Wallace may have made a mistake, or got a horse mixed up or something.
Made debuts on different days, so that puts a time comparison out of the window.
Maybe one of the horses in Sagacious’s race ran against St Nicholas Abbey sometime. I looked at one or maybe two horses, and then gave up.
Regarding the St Leger, I suggest the usual suspects – Coolmore, Godolphin, Johnston??? Maybe that young Stoute has learnt how to train them now.
What about the horse that has been beaten by Jan Vermeer twice? I think it was ridden by Murtagh last time. edit: Midas Touch.
December 30, 2009 at 23:46 #266580I’ve found my list of St Leger winners. Diesis has been the Damsire for 3 of the past 4 seasons. Ignoring him, we generally want a horse with a Sire Flat Stamina Index (Racing Post Site) of about 10.5-11.5 , and the same for the Damsire.
However the following new sires won’t have a FSI yet, and one of them could easily end up the sire of the St Leger winner:-
Bago
Motivator
North Light
Oratorio
PowerscourtAzamour possibly, as well.
I’ll have a look at what St Leger winners achieved as a 2yo now, as I don’t think I’ve done that before.
My St Leger notes were next to my Brocklesby notes, so I’ll give you my first bet of the 2010 Flat Season now:-
Winner to come from the 3 stalls nearest the Stands’ rail.
Second to come from stalls 11-14.
12 times £10 straight forecasts.Reasoning:- Fairly sure there is a draw bias, so the winner comes from near the rail. The second comes from the next batch of horses with a good draw.
December 31, 2009 at 00:01 #266584My mistake i was thinking of another horse of Kevins that ran against Sagacious that has a Irish Guineas and Irish Oaks Entry.
December 31, 2009 at 00:54 #266594Good, that means I can go to bed earlier!

St Leger Winners as 2yos[/color:32m942f6][/size:32m942f6]
6 of the last 18 winners were unraced as 2yos.
Millenary was a maiden, though rated RPR 90.
Moonax had one run, in which he was badly hampered, and Unseated Rider. That may help to explain subsequent developments . . .The other 10 were winners, were rated 90+ (except Conduit), had had 4 runs or less, and had competed over 8f+ for their last race, except for Milan and Classic Cliche (and Moonax) (7f).
Form figures are full of 1s 2s and 3s generally. If they have competed in 4 races (4 horses have done this), they have won 2 of them.
It ought to be fairly easy to compile a shortlist from the Derby entries . . .
December 31, 2009 at 01:52 #266606This is the longlist for the St Leger. I’ve been quite lax, and loads of them just fail on one thing or another. If we were really strict, I think we could get it down to half-a-dozen or less. Finish it in the morning. Going to bed.
St Nicholas Abbey

Flying CrossDecember 31, 2009 at 13:42 #266678I’ve been really strict on the Derby entrants with a RPR of 90+, and have reduced the St Leger selections down to zero.
I suppose this means we work down the Wood Ditton entries, and try to find a St Leger candidate there.
For what its worth, this would be my non-Coolmore suggestion:-
Multames[/color:2j2k9t03]
I’ve never bet on the St Leger, so I’m quite looking forward to doing so next year.
I’ve still got until Epiphany to finish the Derby, but realistically, the one I like is Workforce[/color:2j2k9t03]. The Dosage advocates might chuck Workforce, but his Germanic quadrant featuring Allegretta (dam of Urban Sea) counts for zero in Dosage points, so his Dosage Profile is misleading.
January 1, 2010 at 11:21 #266849I glanced in the RP at the newsagents, and one of their 6 bets for 2010 is Showcasing[/color:2x07f2fa] for the July Cup.
Now, I don’t know their reasons, but I’d have thought it would make a little bit more sense to suggest an ante-post bet for the Golden Jubilee. Prices are more widely available, whilst one would make oneself conspicuous by asking for a July Cup price.
Also, if he is the best sprinter the Golden Jubilee is a surer shot, as horses don’t necessarily recover in time for the July Cup after Royal Ascot.
January 26, 2010 at 00:49 #272103Nah, its going to be Godolphin’s year.
My memory’s decidedly thin about last year’s flat season already, but I’d be surprised if it is Godolphin’s year. Bar Buzzword and Vale of York, did any of their juveniles win at pattern level? And for the life of me I can’t remember who they’ve bought.
I’ve not been doing much over the past few weeks. Hard at work on my Cheltenham trends, turning them from just the 1-2-3 and the short-priced also-rans into proper full-field analysis. Worked last year so here’s hoping.
I snapped up a couple more quid on Sent From Heaven at a 3-figure price and am waiting on Hibaayeb to drift a little more before I make another move on her. Lady Darshaan doesn’t seem to be budging from her 43s. Aviate’s also now a solid 49s chance after I backed her at 110s for £3.
Will be doing Steinbeck again fairly soon since he’s a little weak in the Betfair market at the moment and I’ll also be backing Tabassum (1000 Guineas) and Workforce (Derby) quite soon as well. If I’ve not got the 1000 Guineas winner from Tabassum, Lady Darshaan, Hibaayeb and Sent From Heaven I’ll be extremely disappointed.
No big prices on anything at Cheltenham, just my £13 on Apt Approach for the R&SA. Still hoping he can put in an improved run in the PJ Moriarty and then show better form on better ground over a longer trip at Cheltenham. Looking forward to the Novice entries for the Festival and the Oaks entries soon after that!

Poet’s Voice and Sand Vixen are the only other juvenile pattern winners I can recall Godolphin having, Zarkava, but Sheikh Mohammed has (at the very least) purchased Chabal, Kingsfort, Emerald Commander and Jealous Again.
January 26, 2010 at 10:50 #272121Not quite sure how could I forget Kingsfort…
January 26, 2010 at 12:02 #272136When do the British Open up there Classics lads?….I see Steinbeck is 4/1 on the Betfair to place. Surely that doesn’t make much sense.
Also where can i find Meydan cards?…..the NH is a struggle at the moment
