I do feel compelled to defend the horse
What’s happened to the old adage, he can only beat what’s behind himSeptember 8, 2016 at 09:49 #1262406Going to have a saver on Hydroxide, prices seem wrong to me, The Anvil pushing evens, clearly that’s the ballydoyle money but visually the Hugo Palmer horse was the more impressive first time up, I’d have had them the other way around in the betting.
September 8, 2016 at 11:49 #1262418There’s a lot of talk about the prestige stakes being the form race and whether Rich Legacy can reverse the form with Kilmah etc, but I don’t really rate that race.
They all finished in a heap therefore I reckon Blending has an excellent chance to win the May Hill today.
September 8, 2016 at 13:52 #1262435Why isn’t Caravaggio running again this season though?
The Middle Park seems an ideal way to bring the curtain down on his season.
Have they watched Blue Point in the Gimcrack and felt he might be a tough nut to crack?
The reason I am posting here is to advise people who might be thinking about going in ante-post for Caravaggio in the 2yo races he’s quoted for and/or for the 2000 Guineas. I don’t see any harm in that and it’s bizarre to feel the need to “Defend a horse” it’s hardly an episode of Rumpole Of The Bailey we are talking about.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 8, 2016 at 14:06 #1262437Did you see Toulifaut at Chantilly Steve? What do you think? Won it cosily and looks type to appreciate further in time.
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"

I missed the race completely Joni. I liked the look of Invincible Queen as a sort but Freddie Head hasn’t been having a great season. Jean-Claude Rouget is very much the man in France this year and he seems to have done a great job in preparing Toulifaut this year and she clearly stays well.
I wish Fair Eva was in Rouget’s care.
I’ll try to get Toulifaut’s race posted here once it is available and will comment further then.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 8, 2016 at 14:38 #1262443@stevecaution I thought Caravaggio had suffered a setback which had cast doubt over his participation in the Middle Park?
September 8, 2016 at 14:45 #1262444Rich Legacy looked tough in winning at Doncaster just now.
I have also found some inside information that suggests she might be a Guineas winner next year.
Today’s Racing Post – I thought the answer to this anagram was ‘Refuse to Bend’….
But I was wrong!!!

They weren’t afraid to take on Emotionless last year, I think they positively relished it.
Caravaggio beat Mehmas as an afterthought after winning his race on the stands side of the Coventry,
and I recall that Blue Point was beaten by Mehmas.Caravaggio’s setback means that they would have had to push him to make the Middle Park, but they have an able deputy in Intelligence Cross. he was never going to run in the Dewhurst, they have others for that too. He was going to run in the Breeders Cup Juvenile after the Middle Park, but if he missed the Middle Park, they weren’t going to keep him on the boil until early November. Simple, no conspiracy. He has already had five runs this year, they tend to give their better 2 yos no more than 5 runs.
Never heard of Rumpole of the Bailey, was that in black and white?
September 8, 2016 at 17:16 #1262455Some horses do improve outwith Ballydoyle Sunspangled. You can’t compare Blue Point as an inexperienced colt having his first proper race with the one who won the Gimcrack in such style.
The horse who was 8th in the Gimcrack, Mubtasim, dotted up at Doncaster and he was 8 and 3/4 lengths behind Blue Point. The third horse in the Gimcrack, The Last Lion, sluiced up in a Group 3 by four lengths next time, but could only get to 4 and 3/4 lengths behind Blue Point in the Gimcrack.
You are clearly biased towards Ballydoyle in your opinions, I am neutral and judge purely be the visual impression of the horses.
Time will tell. Caravaggio has only run FOUR times by the way.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Classic Steve.Value Is EverythingSeptember 8, 2016 at 19:29 #1262464This was Toulifaut’s race today:-
http://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/race-replays/2/2330/
She is able to sit in behind and come with a run, which is encouraging as a Frankel youngster.
Jean-Claude Rouget has had a banner season and if some of the other Frankel horses were with him, I wonder if he would have the touch in getting them to settle?
This looked a nice performance.
You had to feel sorry for the rider of Holy Makfi, whose horse had the stirrup break early doors. He was perched as if his mount had a porcupine for a saddle and it would be a certainty that his voice is more like the Milky Bar Kid than Lee Marvin this evening.
Also on today’s card was Akihiro, who had finished second past the post on his debut, but was awarded the race because the Jean-Claude Rouget trained first past the post Neguev had drifted across him when drifting badly across the track. Neguev won next time out and Akihiro was quite impressive today.
The reports had Akihiro down as a cosy winner but I felt he came under the pump quite a way from home, and it was staying on well that won the day and I feel the runner up was tiring at the same time. Runner-up High Alpha had floored a Rouget hotpot last time and came into this race rated 104. That makes this look quite nice form and the runner up today is more physically imposing than the winner, so he may find a similar race soon.
The race can be seen here and the time was 2.8 seconds faster than Toulifaut later on.

September 8, 2016 at 20:00 #1262469Pedantry appears to be a bit of a feature of the Forum, so in keeping with it’s spirit I feel it is only right to point out to Steve that Holy Mafki’s jockey today was a lady rider and that therefore his references to Lee Marvin & the Milky Bar Kid are not really applicable.
With regard to the more serious subject of the race itself I agree with Steve that it looked a really nice performance by Toulifaut who has been brought along very steadily by Monsieur Rouget. The fact that the time was appreciably slower than Akihiro recorded I would guess is down in part to the fact that Toulifaut’s race was run in the early stages at a pace that looked funereal even by French standards.
Assuming that Toulifaut’s next race is the Marcel Boussac, we should get a much clearer indication of her ability then.
September 8, 2016 at 20:07 #1262472If Caravaggio has had a setback then can see why they’ve opted out of the Middle Park and decided against running again this season. Blue Point Vs a fit and well Caravaggio is going to be a great match up, whether this season or next. Suspect it will also be over 6 furlongs.
Steve, you accuse Sunspangled of being “clearly biased towards Ballydoyle” horses and that you are “neutral”. But you have already backed Blue Point for the Guineas, so how does that make you neutral?
