That’s my point, Andy. Zebedee is marketed as a sire of two-year-olds and mostly bred with mares to suit that purpose. You’d expect him to get loads of juvenile winners (as he is) that go on to struggle as older horses.
August 6, 2014 at 21:44 #487640Both Nijinsky and Frankel were complete horses at two. They were never caught up with so to speak. This fellow could be the same.
August 6, 2014 at 21:49 #487641Call’s to mind the great pocket rocket Forest Flower. They never did catch up with her at three in spite of her small size. But having said all that you could be right.
August 7, 2014 at 09:13 #487647Ivawood is now a single figure price for the 2,000 Guineas. His dam was a relatively modest mile and a half winner on the all-weather. Even if he did progress or maintain a certain level I would have thought the concerns about trip are pretty obvious. Personally, I would rather have 20/1 for the July Cup than the 2,000 Guineas.
August 8, 2014 at 21:44 #487778Possibly, although people said the same about Canford Cliffs. On the whole Hannon and Hughes seem to be pretty spot about how far a horse will go in distance. I still have the Toronado to win the Derby vouchers locked away for the future great grandkids to sell at auction, Could be worth something after he wins the breeders cup classic.

But no one really knows how Zebedee would have performed had he stayed on in training at three. It’s all speculative. I tend to look beyond the dam and sire to see what traits a horse might inherit. Take Kingman for example, seems as though he’s got a red-hot streak of Dancing Brave in him through his dam’s side of his pedigree…
Ivawood’s pedigree has a lot of smart horses if you look at his third generation and I suspect that such dormant talent has manifested itself back into Ivawood.
Of all the two year olds I’ve seen so far, Ivawood looks proper 2000 guineas material. I think he’ll be better at three and will progress to get the mile.
August 9, 2014 at 08:01 #487816Kingman has grown though and has strengthen up. Ivawood could be the next No Nay Never in terms of physical development and progression as he’s a big boy already. I intend to make hay on his next race whilst the iron is hot.

Ivawood will be a bright star!
August 10, 2014 at 11:20 #487976We’ll see with Ivawood. I think he’ll be more of a Monsieur Chevalier or King Torus than a Kingman though!
August 10, 2014 at 21:17 #487993As expected, John F Kennedy came on a good bit from his first run in winning in good style at the Curragh. A lot of rumours circulating that he is Ballydoyle’s Derby horse next year and although I think it’s early to be getting involved ante-post, today’s performance is encouraging.
O’Brien’s words after the race "He’s still very babyish. Mentally he’s still a bit immature, although physically he’s mature. The penny never dropped the first day at Leopardstown. He’s a very smart colt, and we’ll probably take our time with him."
August 11, 2014 at 07:45 #487999Very exciting colt. To use the well used phrase he could be anything. Joseph was very easy on him and I suspect there is loads to come.with dick Whittington winning the Phoenix I’m sure aob has a good idea of the pecking order at ballydoyle and JFK will head to Doncaster and the racing post trophy.

looks an exceptional prospect based on her win at Newmarket in a time that very few debutantes are capable of producing. She produced a speed figure on my numbers bigger than Kingman did on his debut. Those behind her will be worth watching over the next few weeks as they certainly bumped into a smart one here.
August 25, 2014 at 16:41 #489204The most impressive juvenile I’ve seen this year is Romeo Lima already mentioned on this thread, seems the bookies are running scared of him because he hasn’t been priced up anywhere for the 2000 Guineas
August 25, 2014 at 17:28 #489208Gleneagles looks like he could be competitive in the guineas but more likely to be a 10 to 12f horse. The dew hurst and the racing post trophy could be great races with the number of good quality juveniles seen out. John f Kennedy apparently is training superbly and ballydoyle are trying to keep a lid on expectations. Await a huge plunge on him before and after racing post trophy.

25/1 with Stan James.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
