Bozlike, looking at up for review , you’d think he was a stayer, but watching his runs I have an idea that he may not be a strong enough stayer

I’m not concerned at all at his stamina. He’s looked plenty of times in the past like he’s yearned for a trip, while in the Thyestes, although he finished tired, he was plenty entitled to given he was running off a break. He’ll have stripped fitter for that and his Cheltenham run and tank his way round Aintree :yahoo:

Yeah Nenni, a big ask, but I’d be fairly confident that Elliot could do it. If this is the actual plan of course.

    From Irishracing.com :

There was a one, two, three for Gordon Elliott in the featured BarOneRacing.com Chase at Down Royal as the Keith Donoghue-ridden Jury Duty (3/1) led them home.

Baie Des Iles fell three out leaving Elliott’s Mala Beach (evens) in front.

However American Grand National hero Jury Duty took over from the last to score by six and a half lengths. There was a gap of twenty eight lengths to the other Cullentra House representative Don Poli in third.

Assistant trainer Ian Amond said: “It was a nice surprise as Mala Beach looked the obvious one.

“He has had a nice break since America and we were hoping he would come and run a good race and put him right for the National.

“It’s a bonus he has gone and won so his next stop now is Aintree. Then he will go back to America, there’s a race in May for him.

“They will probably all go to Aintree.”

Traffic Fluide finally has a last blow out before the National in a 2 mile hurdle next weekend(ish). He’d be my main hope now he’ll be going here after a shorter break.

Of those I’ve backed who ran at Cheltenham; Ultragold was a little disappointing, however I’d be willing to forgive him as Tizzards form has been dire. A PU before a tilt here is far from ideal, but it can be done (see Don’t Push It). Yala Enki was obviously outpaced in the Gold Cup, but still ran more encouragingly than Haydock I felt and wasn’t beaten a million miles in the end (might have taken 6th if not for being hampered two out). He’d be my main hope if he was just slightly better handicapped.

I’ve joined those of you on Noble Endeavour at 50s EW NRNB. Trainer was so keen on him for this last year and he has had a nice prep. Jumped the fences very well in the Becher (which they were not interested in winning) and a decent run in the Ultima. On a nice enough mark too.

Still looking at Up For Review who was my early pick though no money down on him yet. I think he will stay and has some back class but I was a bit discouraged by the way he was put off after clonking a fence in the Ultima. I think you need a hard minded horse that can get buffeted and make mistakes and gallop on regardless. Still jumps a fraction novicey wasting a bit of energy and not as quick away from the fences as I’d like. I don’t think he’ll flick through the top 6 inches of spruce as well as some.

Ultragold still on the radar too. When Tizzard said “We’ve had a brainwave about the XC” I thought no you haven’t, you’re just copying Elliot. I don’t think you can just start schooling a horse for the XC a couple of months beforehand cos it just occurred to you to enter. I know they’re a hunting family but it’s a different thing. I’m drawing a line through that run. The horse’s strength is his rhythm over the National fences, I liked the way he ran on in the Becher and if the stable is anywhere near form come Aintree, I’ll be in.

I still have doubts about Ultragold been an out and out stayer despite his performance in the Beecher. If I didn’t then he would be one of the first on my list given his form over the GN fences.

I was really encouraged by the run of Vintage Clouds, and I just hope that there’s enough juice on the ground. Funnily enough, I’m also happy that Rathvinden missed the festival, as that would have been a hard race on the Friday.

I’m slightly less keen now on Abolitionist, but my main concern is that all three can survive tomorrow’s cut.

I agree with the positive comments for Lake View Lad, that was a very good Trial.

I was a little surprised to see Ms Parfois shorten as much after Uttoxeter. I really like her, but that was a harder trial than others had I thought.

I’m intrigued to see if those at the top of the handicap stand their ground tomorrow. I reckon Bristol Du Mai will go the Bowl route, however I’m now unsure about Anibale Fly. Was convinced they wouldn’t send him here now he’s even higher in the handicap than last year, but I can’t see connections missing this after his Gold Cup run.

In convinced Tiger Roll’s participation in this race depends entirely on them two turning up. They won’t want him going up 6lbs to 11st7.

Guys, just a reminder that it’s a declaration stage today, so a few of the bigger NRNB prices might vanish.

Traffic Fluide out  and Ultragold looking like he might go to the Topham after disappointing at Cheltenham

As it stands those on 10:02 are sharing the last spot. I’m still expecting Bristol De Mai to withdraw.

    Hi gang,
    New to the forum,
A refugee from GNG forum, looking for a new home…..hahaha :yahoo:
    2 against the field for now,GO CONQUER 40/1,BALYOPTIC 66/1,
GO CONQUER is on a feather weight compared to what he normally carries,he races up with the pace, stays out of trouble, exuberant jumper, can see him first 3 home,
BALYOPTIC is another who is on a decent weight compared to what he has been carrying
Think you have accept his 6 place in the WGN,on ground he would not like,he is definitely a spring horse, his performance in the SGN giving a stone away to the winner is mighty impressive, think NTD has campaigned him expertly, there is a reason why NTD has kept BDM in the GN…… :good:

    Welcome to TRF Bobbyjo.

Go Conquer is an old favourite of mine, and he’s certainly went under the radar a bit here. More than capable, and I’ll be kicking myself if he does it.

With the field now reduced to 81 runners, and most of the running done, here are my views on this year National.

I like the looks of Vintage Cloud, General Principle & Ramses De Teille.

Vintage Cloud loves marathon trips and usually runs well in them, however he normally loses his place mid-way then stays on. In the Ultima he didn’t lose his place and ran better than ever.

General Principle been running well all season, but was unlucky in the Ultima.

Finally Ramses De Teillee put up two solid runs in the Welsh National & the Grand National trial at Haydock both are good pointers for the National. He may be the first 7 year old to win since 1940, but his true age is 6 as his birthday is 2 days later. :yahoo:

Earlier I’d did fancy Singlefarmpayment but after a poor run at Cheltenham I don’t think he coming in the best of form, maybe the ground didn’t suit him.

Anibale Fly ran a great race too in the Gold Cup and might stand a chance but may have to carry top weight.

You've got to accentuate the positive.
    Eliminate the negative.
    Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.
