One of THE big handicaps of the season, and one of my favourites.

    https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/21/goodwood/2018-08-04/704704

Far too many at this stage to take a proper strong view, but inevitably some of them appeal early doors.

My early #1 would be a horse who’s already a favourite of mine, and it’s Justanotherbottle. I think he’s very good, and I’m hopeful of a good run in The Rockingham today. Mainly seen over 5f, this longer trip asks a few questions, but the ability is there for sure, and I’m loving that 25’s.

25’s also looks decent for former winner Dancing Star. Plenty of questions to answer on recent form, but no surprise if he bounced back here.

Ice Age and Snazzy Jazzy have been in the notebook for this since last season, and I’d still be very interested in the pair of them, but Snazzy probably makes slightly more appeal right now after the “no show” from Ice Age in The Wokingham, another race in which he was a long term “notebook” horse of mine.

Delighted to see old Pettochside in there, he loves it here, and he’s in the form of his life. It looks as if he’s finally getting the respect he deserves, as the opening price of 20’s is a more accurate reflection of his ability, than some of the prices I’ve seen quoted for him the last couple of years.

It’s obviously still five weeks away, and will be crazy competitive on the day, never mind this far out, but one of those races where I’ll definitely have an early play.

Could pick two dozen out easily, but those five for now, and as mentioned, very interested in Ice Age & Dancing Star, but the contenders for an early bet are……

    Pettochside 20’s
    Justanotherbottle 25’s
    Snazzy Jazzy 33’s

    Polybius 33/1

Slow away today in the 5F handicap at Ascot and was keeping on well at the finish. Well handicapped on his best form and this fast 6F is perfect for him.

Yeah, caught my eye as well Kev, good luck.

On the verge of betting “Bottle” after that run today in the same race. If the draw had been kinder, I think he would have won, but regardless, it offered some encouragement for another furlong.

Am on Sprint Loaded at 12/1 here.

He’s shortened today after antepost favourite Dreamfield wasn’t declared at the five day declarations.

    Spring Loaded @ 12/1

First play here, and as planned, it’s Justanotherbottle. I really did like that last run, and the fact they could send him here, rather than The Chelsea Barracks, well that sealed the deal.
Win only just now as I think his price will hold, and place concessions will be better at the weekend.

Thought this looked an average renewal after the entries looking pretty exciting.

    Foxtrot Lady 12/1 & Gifted Master 20/1.

FL is improving nicely and can go close taking the same path as Dancing Star did for the same trainer/owner combo.

Goodwood can suit front runners especially if they can stay the trip and GM will stay this 6F well. Jason Watson is worth his 5 & Palmers runners are running well at the moment.

It’s not a race to automatically go for a fav, but I am drawn to Spring Loaded, and he looks solid here.

What about Growl, if not regressive, then he looks well treated? I may make him second choice, and as it’s The Stewards Cup, possibly three, with last years winner very appealing also.

Growl is a regular of mine Kris, but if you’re going for him, be warned, I never catch him, and he’s making my forecasts at the very least. I don’t think he’s regressing, and he’ll probably be a win saver.

I’ll be topping up Bottle to the seven places as well.

The first few in the market look rock solid to me, but I can’t leave Pettochside alone off of his current mark, and though he didn’t advertise his credentials here the other day, he does usually perform well here, so at around 40’s, he has to be added, and also to the seven places.

    I’ve backed 4 for this.

I feel Gifted Master has a chance bearing in mind he’s racing off level weights with Spring Loaded (fav) now Jason Watson is aboard and is actually 4 pounds better off with Tis Marvellous than when he beat him at Newmarket. He seems to have been laid out for this since finding the King Stand all too furious. 14/1.

Growl now finds himself here off a 10 pound lower mark than last year (ran a cracker). He’s shown he handles the course well and Hanagan now takes the hot seat. 12/1.

Marie Of Lyon looks overpriced considering she’s running off 8st4lb. She’s been contesting Listed and Group 3 races so far this year and now dropping into handicaps looks the right move. If the far side is the place to be, she could be coming with a late rattle. 50/1 (e/w – 5 places).

Glanamoy Lad laughed at some quality opposition when last seen on a racecourse. He’s up a fair bit in the weights but looks to have had this race in the mind of connections and the jockey booking screams off the page.

    Best of luck everyone.

Backed Spring Loaded (in ante post thread) at 10/1. You’re never sure
how the draw is going to work out, so as he’s drawn in 19 I’ve also taken
Glenamoy Lad, who is drawn in 2, at 14/1 just to level things up a bit.
It looks as tough as you would expect it to be, so good luck all :good:

Lot will depend on where the pace of the race is and where the jockeys decide to go.
imo The most likely front runners are (in no particular order):
Gifted Master drawn 25, Watchable 27, Solar Flair 4 and Reputation 28. So most of the pace is on the stand side. Others who could go on are Lancelot Du Lac 15 and Justanotherbottle 7.

So most of the best pace looks stand side and a lot night depend on how fast Solar Flair goes on the Stand Side. However, front runners don’t like to stay together – taking each other on – and it seemed to me the stand side yesterday had (if anything) the worst of the draw. Wouldn’t surprise me if one or two of Gifted Master, Watchable and Reputation goes towards the middle. Although the former and latter of those (as well as far side Solar Flair) jockeys are apprentices. Will they go too fast or too slow?

I’ve backed a couple of them, Gifted Master 16/1 and Reputation 50/1, along with Foxtrot Lady 7/1, Spring Loaded 15/2, George Bowen 15/1 with a saver on Glenamoy Lad 16/1.

Two favourites Foxtrot Lady and Spring Loaded come from bang in form stables and look as well handicapped as anything. Simply were too big (with emphasis on “were”. Reputation‘s trainer is also in very good form and amazingly well handicapped on his all weather form, if (admittedly a big IF) running anywhere near that mark will surprise a few if getting loose on the lead on the stand rail. Inexperienced 7 lb claimer is a bit of a worry. George Bowen is improving at the right time and has a good claimer on board. Glenamoy Lad improving last season, hasn’t run this but trainer is in good form, has a good first time out strike rate and with the best jockey in the country in the saddle. Hope Gifted Master goes towards the centre, more than fairly handicapped on Newmarket form and got to add to that at least part of the excellent apprentice’s 5 lb claim.

Not as much of a lottery taking 5/4 one of those win.

Brilliant late dive into the market there Ginger, 31/1 was well over the SP. You’re
in good company with Kev and Charles who picked him out earlier. Very well done gents :good:
