It’s a poor race imo. Doubts with many of the field. Was tempted to play safe with Old Guard each way. Changed my mind (so I expect he will go well now) and instead went with Summerville Boy. The better ground will hopefully have him nearer his best. Anywhere near his best would win this I think.
Summerville Boy @ 11/4
December 15, 2018 at 07:49 #1389361MOM all Summerville boys form is on soft or heavy pretty much?
Also meant to be very heavy rain there

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 15, 2018 at 10:22 #1389379I’m a firm believer that you should forgive a horse on bad run but the weakness in the market together with the way he improved into the spring last year is enough to put me off Summerville Boy.
I like Silver Streak here. He’s firmly on the upgrade and should confirm form with Old Guard from the Greatwood and isn’t far behind the best of these on ratings, and most of those are on a retrieval mission.
I’ve backed the grey at 5/1 and also added Brain Power at 13/2. Strictly at the weights he should be winning this and I think it’s a good bit of placing regardless.
Silver Streak 5/1
Brain Power 13/2December 15, 2018 at 13:25 #1389420The way things have turned out Summerville Boy looks the one to be on

December 15, 2018 at 14:58 #1389444There seems a pace bias at this meeting. Front/prominent runners having an advantage. May be those in behind just happy to stay there in strong winds and rain. The New One, Western Ryder and We Have A Dream seem the most likely prominent runners. Want to be against TNO – age. Western Ryder acts on any ground and probably has more improvement in him. Could’ve done with more rain for WHAD, but should be a little softer than Ascot and Wincanton… and unsuited by being held up last time. Summerville Boy has the best form but can always take on a poor jumping favourite.
Value Is EverythingDecember 15, 2018 at 15:02 #1389446Had to back the new one for an emotional 4th win , also on we have a dream
December 15, 2018 at 15:14 #1389447The Power does it. As said, he had the winning of that race on ratings – all he had to do was run to form.
December 15, 2018 at 15:14 #1389448Good performance but sad to see TNO being pulled up and hopefully it is now on to a happy retirement for him.
December 15, 2018 at 15:17 #1389450I think we know what beckons for The New One now but what about Summerville Boy? Another lacklustre effort there, looks nothing like the horse of last season even if you forget that Supreme win.
December 15, 2018 at 15:18 #1389451Well done Charles, he done it easy

December 15, 2018 at 15:36 #1389458Nice one Raymo and Charles. I have found BP a hard horse to keep faith with but he came away from them like the horse Henderson has always said he was. Well done.
December 15, 2018 at 15:47 #1389463With Summerville Boy and The New One disappointing, Brain Power had the form to win it. Didn’t think he’d come back to form, well done to those who did. Nice to see him win again after chasing problems. On “form” not a bad each way price for the Champion Hurdle. However, although fine when beating up inferior opposition – just not sure he’d find much under pressure against the best. Supreme Hurdle winner Summerville Boy certainly has questions to answer now – looks more than just his jumping. Surprised they held We Have A Dream up – runs/jumps better ridden prominently. Could we see a dream run racing more prominently in the Betfair Hurdle?
The other I backed – Western Ryder am convinced has more improvement in him, but may be that’ll be over further. Admittedly can be held up but also runs well tracking pace and (given results today) thought he’d race further forward under Johnson. tbh Was value last night/this morning but shouldn’t have been fav. Silver Streak ran his usual good race, but possibly progressive run has ended. Vision Des Flos travelled well for a long way but didn’t find. Headgear on The New One (and age) told its own story; but he’s been a consistent winner and got a deserved walk around the paddock afterwards. Happy retirement TNO.
