Looks like a 1 horse race at the moment with The New One. I’m sure there’ll be a few Irish horses over for this; easy prize money up for grabs. You’d imagine that Laurina or Melon will travel with the other going to Leopardstown. The entries were extended until this morning to try get a few more in.
December 11, 2018 at 10:04 #1388802Certainly be interesting to see what goes/run.
Mullin’s needs to get one or two of these hurdlers out!

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 11, 2018 at 10:47 #1388809Highest rated entered is 158 so no Melon anyway at this stage

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 11, 2018 at 12:30 #1388811Hendo seemed to know that Laurina was intending on running here when he was on LOS.
December 11, 2018 at 12:40 #138881211 entries now including Laurina, Call me Lord, Sumerville Boy, The New One, We Have a Dream, Brain Power and Western Ryder
December 11, 2018 at 15:12 #1388820Call Me Lord surely will not run, doesn’t he need to go right-handed?
December 11, 2018 at 15:28 #1388822Doubt it, but as i posted before decs- the highest rated at 9.30 this morning was 158- so they’ve stuck him in later than that……
He’s fav for the Long Walk too.

A tricky race though Western Ryder tempts me EW in case Laurina doesn’t make the journey. He was unlucky at the festival and ran a good race on his seasonal debut. He’s a better horse than form figures suggest.
December 12, 2018 at 09:45 #1388861Yeah Joe, 5/2 shot for the Long walk, and had been a touches of blue for that last week. So i sort’ve assumed it would be WHAD running rather than him
It would be interesting to see him run here, really hope/think Laurina makes the trip. They don’t have many options to get her started elsewhere.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 12, 2018 at 12:13 #1388867Like you I think Laurina will run. They had her ready to go weeks ago but ground wasn’t soft enough…hopefully should have enough ease in it on Saturday for all she’s a big mare.
Mullins used the race to good effect to get more course and decent-open-company experience into Melon as a 5yo last year, and his previous runner in the race was Sempre Medici- like Laurina, a 5yo having his seasonal reappearance, his first start in open company (bar the County hurdle) and 7th start over hurdles in all (and he like Melon picked up some handy place money).
Laurina’s penalty for winning a G2 is halved by virtue of the fact that it was a novice race and of course she gets her 7lb allowance, and looking at the opposition the race should be feasibly winnable if they really do have CH aspirations for her.December 13, 2018 at 10:38 #1388987Looking like no Laurina on Sat.
“Because of the ground situation at Cheltenham and the dry forecast, we are have a serious rethink about running Laurina on Saturday and its looking unlikely that she will travel.” Willie Mullins
December 13, 2018 at 15:51 #1388994Anybody know how to do a rain dance?
December 14, 2018 at 19:29 #1389282Cant believe im saying this but ill be backing brain power
December 14, 2018 at 19:31 #1389283I am on BRAIN POWER e/w at 7/1 !! I think this is a huge price!!
Back over hurdles after not taking to fences I think this horse could be the proverbial good thing!!
I don’t normally say this but I proper proper fancy this and have had my biggest bet of the jumps season so far!!

Summerville disappointed last time and looks too short a price. Silver Streak is a handicapper (albeit a good one ). The New One has shown himself to be one paced over this trip and wants further. Old Guard will run his race but isn’t quite up to this and Western Ryder and Vision De Flos aren’t good enough.
That leaves the only danger as Hendo’s other one who may want softer ground.
Good Luck Guys
December 14, 2018 at 21:42 #1389303Summerville Boy got stuck in the mud at Newcastle, with a run and back at Cheltenham on decent ground I expect him show his true colours tomorrow and come flying up the hill!
December 14, 2018 at 23:11 #1389322I think there is a big race in Vision Des Flos and he’s well worth an EW bet here at 11/1
December 15, 2018 at 00:45 #1389333Until Summerville Boy can show me that he has learned how to jump I can’t have him at any price let alone how short he is – he didn’t look to have made much (if any) improvement last time from his novice season and the much quicker ground (quicker than anything he has run on previously) is going to put even more emphasis on slick jumping.
My stupid old heart would love to see TNO roll back the years and head off into the sunset off the back of a win – liable to get an easy lead and may well appreciate the better ground and with the stable having 2 wins at the track yesterday wouldn’t surprise me if he was in the mix but Brain Power getting weight off all (bar Western Ryder) is a big danger assuming 2 falls in his last 4 runs hasn’t dented his confidence or his psyche.
Still can’t quite get my head around the fact that Old Guard is still only 7, in my mind he seems to have been around for at least 4 or 5 yrs
