Yep – less than 10mm anticipated prior to racing on Saturday.
Good for Might Bite.
November 19, 2018 at 11:23 #1381017Yes I can see this cutting up too. I’ve done Politologue EW at 16s. Light framed horse should bounce off good ground and being wiry and younger might need the run less than some rivals.
November 19, 2018 at 11:38 #1381020I like your 40s EW in the antepost comp for Black Corton Bobby. Fit, will like good ground, great chance of a place anyway.
November 19, 2018 at 13:26 #1381045Don Poli an intriguing entry. Anyone know what injury he had to keep him out so long?
November 19, 2018 at 14:27 #1381054Might Bite‘s current price may be what it is because there’s a chance both main rivals won’t run. tbh Bristol De Mai may or may not run, but seems to me his chance relies enormously on it being very soft anyway – good Lay at around 5/2.
But although Native River‘s very best form so far might be on soft/heavy, did put up a then career best on similar ground to what it’s likely to be at Haydock on a similar track to Haydock – Newbury – in the Hennessey… And running right up to his then best (before Johnson got on him) on the same surface when only finding subsequent Gold Cup second Minella Rocco too good in the NH Chase… So although there is a chance Native River is at his very best on soft/heavy that could yet be coincidence.
As long as he’s fit in order to make it a real stamina test – ran really well on reappearance last year in the Denman and stable in excellent form at the moment… At this stage Might Bite is rightly favourite but – to me – difference in the two prices seems overdone.Value Is EverythingNovember 20, 2018 at 02:27 #1381115Decent ground surely plays into the hands of the speedier types in Might Bite & Thistlecrack (if he is the horse of old, which is a big if).
With the current going on the chase course as good to soft (good in places) and not much rain in sight, Tellwright is probably panicking and thinking of watering the course to keep it safe because (gasp) we couldn’t possible have a top race run on good ground…..could we?
November 20, 2018 at 20:42 #1381173Both Nicky Henderson as Tizzard are very confident about their horses. Also Nichols expecting a good run of Clan des Obeaux. I can see the last one hitting the frame.
November 20, 2018 at 22:08 #1381178While both courses have long straights, that’s where Haydocks similarities with Newbury end with its hairpin bends and soft trolly fences.
Interesting to see money for Clan des obeaux and that Bristol De Mai isn’t jocked up yet so will he run??November 21, 2018 at 01:52 #1381187Native river 3/1 taken, he will go ok on good ground and will take some pegging back from the from the front.
Love mite bite as well but have missed the price.
Good look all
November 21, 2018 at 07:33 #1381189This is a rare no betting race for me. Unless it cuts up badly, this is a race to savour.
November 21, 2018 at 17:50 #1386600Yeah Grass, I had to stick him up in there as it was too tempting. Smashing horse, who I’m confident can land a decent pot this season.

You mean front runners like Native River are even better suited by Haydock than Newbury, R&S.
True, the bends are more hairpin; but I’ve run around the Newbury track and it’s bends are sharper than you might think.
Taken the 3.2/1.Value Is EverythingNovember 21, 2018 at 19:42 #1386619Who was chasing you, Mark? My money’s on Nathan!
November 21, 2018 at 19:44 #1386620He wouldn’t get near the 1st bend if I were chasing him…

November 21, 2018 at 19:51 #1386626Absolutely delighted Politologue isn’t heading here, can’t have him as a 3 miler myself. A pity that they are trying King George (which would appear to make any Tingle Creek defence unlikely) but you can’t have everything.
November 21, 2018 at 20:27 #1386633Was going to find somewhere for a run on the way back from Newbury races, Joe… and thought why not ask if I could run the track. I’d once seen seen a jockey running it before racing. Bit surprised when they said yes. Took my garmin too in order to see the gradients and milage. Surprisingly, both back and home straights are slightly uphill, with downhill turns. Don’t know what I must have looked like because the grass was longer and had to pick my feet up more than usual! Getting close to the winning post could hear drunken ironic voices from the Grandstand (maybe that was Nathan?)… So made a dip for the line.
Value Is EverythingNovember 21, 2018 at 20:39 #1386635So Politoloque doesn’t run as TKF says, i sort of doubt Giggy would see it as a shrewd move to pitch in a mare on her 2nd start in open company vs the 1st + 2nd in last year’s GC, for all it’s their first runs back.
Could we be seeing, Outlander + Don Poli in this for Giggy only? I think so, guessing of course.
I can see Native River going off closer to Might Bite in this + also BDM being backed a little considering his course form, for all it’s no bog this year. According to the forecast i use it’s dry for the rest of the week.
That will probably see Might Bite being hard to beat in this, but i wouldn’t be backing him at evens.
