Run on Sunday at Fairyhouse, and formerly known as The Powers Gold Cup, it normally has a decent enough field. Yorkhill, is the odds on favourite this year, and should be hard to beat.

I’ll take a chance though on the outsider of the field, Baily Cloud, at a big price of 50’s. Connections have previously got horses of this ability placed in some of the bigger races, most notably Baily Green, who really should have won The 2013 Arkle. This boy wasn’t done with, when falling in The JLT, and although he had shown some jumping issues before that anyway, at 50’s each way, I think he’s worth a go.
Some nice types in there though, and I hope a few of them take it in.
April 13, 2017 at 10:31 #1296624I’m going to follow you in on Baily Cloud VtC, he definitely wasn’t finished in the JLT and 50/1 looks a decent bet.
Otherwise, no value at all, with Powers operating at a criminal overround of 144%.
Once the market fully forms, it will be interesting to see what happens with Yorkhill. If there is strong support against him, I’ll be all over him at 8/13 or better, probably in a double with Let’s Dance. He seemed to peak at Aintree last year, so I think he will be very hard bet here.
On the other side of that, if he is backed off the boards and I get a bigger price on A Toi Phil, I’ll take that.
The next month of Irish racing is set to be the best in years with Elliot and Mullins going all out for this title.
April 13, 2017 at 12:27 #1296633I am hoping to see as few quirks as possible from Yorkhill on Sunday if he runs in this race.
I am hoping it is gold Cup for him in 2018, but as for Sunday I will not be betting him at that price.April 15, 2017 at 19:21 #1296945I’m going to review my position in this one and take a chance on Some Plan of Henry De Bromhead’s.
He couldn’t live with Altior and Charbel in the Arkle, but putting that race behind him, he had subsequent Brown Advisory Plate winner Road to Respect,5 1/2 lengths behind him at Naas in January, who is 7/1 for this. 9 times out of 10 I give precedence to recent form over past form, but the difference in prices looks way too big.
Some Plan 25/1.
April 16, 2017 at 01:36 #1296972Good luck Voleur, 25’s looks a tad generous.
I’ve had a small top up on Baily Cloud at the 66’s, though will be happy should he nab 3rd for the 50’s.
I think Road To Respect has bags of potential, and reckon his win at Cheltenham suggests that this is more where his future lies, rather than handicaps. I don’t often play as low as 6’s, but thought he was worth a go at that price.
April 16, 2017 at 17:35 #1297030Nice one, Bobby.
It bears repeating that a proposed Gold Cup campaign for Yorkhill seems very optimistic given his unwillingness to settle.
April 16, 2017 at 19:18 #1297040Congrats VtC, a nice winner.
As for myself.. I couldn’t have got it more wrong. Yorkhill and Let Dance both overturned and Some Plan running in a different race to the rest of them.
I’d be very concerned with Yorkhill’s temperament going forward. His run today really confirms just how good the ride Ruby gave him at Cheltenham was.
April 16, 2017 at 19:32 #1297043NICE ONE BOBBY

I backed it at Cheltenham as a saver and should have backed it today but hey ho sometimes life gets in the way!!
Well done again!!
April 16, 2017 at 20:33 #1297053Well done good foresight
April 16, 2017 at 21:19 #1297058One can only imagine how far Yorkhill would have hacked up if the race was run on a left handed track. The horse clearly has bucket loads of talent but is proving to be a complete nightmare for connections.

Yea he was by far the best horse in the race, but alas, you have to jump to win. However, his jumping hasn’t, and shouldn’t be a problem at the one place that really matters; Cheltenham.
The main concern for him with regards to the Gold Cup, is in my view is his tendency to idle in front and as Steeplechasing mentioned, his ability to settle.
If Ruby could produce another masterclass on board in the big one, I’d be confident the horse has the class to win it with his engine alone.
April 16, 2017 at 22:54 #1297065Keep having visions of Might Bite and Yorkhill racing against each other….
April 16, 2017 at 23:26 #1297072Moe I am undecided as to which of them comes with a bigger health warning, and equally, which is the most talented.
April 16, 2017 at 23:40 #1297075Have to agree with Voleur on this one!!
Two mightily talented horses but both have serious quirks!!
It might be a behind the sofa job if they ever ran against each other!!
April 17, 2017 at 11:20 #1297118Thanks guys, very happy with that, and the price, not one for betting as low as that, but good when it comes off.
Bit of good fortune obviously, but ain’t complaining, especially as Baily Cloud went agonisingly close as well.
