Capri never looked in Enable class all season though.
Judge mate, that’s not my point and I dare say you know it. Who hear thinks that Capri is a 10 length worse horse than Doha Dream?
October 1, 2017 at 16:09 #1319683Btw if Gosden says Enable stays in training, does that help speed up Cracksman´s maturing process and we see him again this year?
Gosden knew Cracksman had nothing to gain in this Arc. This was such an even field behind Enable that he could easily have finished nowhere. Best case was he finishes second and everybody just shrugs their shoulders.

Couldnt agree with you more, capri never ran his race and is absolutely stupid to suggest he did, if your throwing the crop of 3yos off as rubbish then evergone he beat in the leger are also rubbish
On a side note, delighted with the 10s i took on rhododendron (earlier in this thread)

Cracksman won’t be seen again until his 5yo season.
October 1, 2017 at 16:24 #1319694Surprised to see a couple of decent judges on here implying Capri ran to form. The first three home at Donny had seriously hard races and when Moore overlooked him in favour of Winter it was a fair assumption for me at least that the horse wouldn’t recover in time. Sadly I’d already backed him by then.

September
Though I wouldn’t bet on that until after she wins the Oaks
October 1, 2017 at 22:00 #1319766Great to see. Superstar filly
It turned out the Oaks that I saw at Epsom was well above average!

I am not saying Capri ran to his form. I said I didn’t think he had the talent to win an Arc and he didn’t win it.
I could just as easily state that I was surprised that decent judges backed Capri for the Arc and are now using predictable pre-race factors to explain a poor run.
The Racing Post gave Capri 111 for his run today. That’s only 9 lbs below his official 120 rating. That’s hardly a honker in the manner of, say, the tailed off Silverwave, who I didn’t even see finishing, who ran to 78 today.
My opinion has always been that St Leger horses are not good bets for the Arc and that was why I would never have backed Capri for today, despite being a big champion of his chances in the St Leger.
I think some people are getting carried away by the notion that Capri was miles below form today. The evidence was there before the race that he was a BIG outsider today. Capri went off at 37/1 and that tells its own story. If he had been a true contender he would never have been those. Capri was 20/1 generally when I considered the market and I had no hesitation in suggesting Cloth Of Stars as better value at 40/1.
I think a sense of perspective is required here. Capri was facing older horses and an exceptional filly today. Using the St Leger as a starting point for Arc winners has never been a good plan in my experience.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
October 1, 2017 at 22:24 #1319771LostSoldier, could you add Cloth of Stars please.
October 1, 2017 at 22:36 #1319774Steve, I don’t want to get into cutting and pasting but reread your para on Capri: the clear implication – to me at least – is that he’s just not much good and ran accordingly.
On RPRs, a reproduction of his Leger run would have had him just behind Brametot today. He might not be a world beater but his Leger run, to my mind, was very impressive and I think time will tell that he’s a goo deal better than he showed in the Arc.
As to the mugs like me who backed him, fair enough, happy to put my hands up and say that even at his best he wouldn’t have beaten the filly today.

Eminent of course LS.
He’s going to be much better as a four year old and wouldn’t be surprised to see him turn out for next year’s Arc and win it..JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 1, 2017 at 22:45 #1319776Well done BigG, a lovely each way for you there, and certainly not for the first time either.
October 2, 2017 at 00:24 #1319792Joe, I’ve said my piece enough. The horse was 37/1 and friendless.
I post to give honest assessments and point out what I think are unlikely to succeed.
I feel it is wrong to suggest Capri ran way below form today, end of. People are free to feel that he did if they wish. We all choose to see it differently. There were enough clues to suggest Aidan felt he had a below standard handful this year.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
October 2, 2017 at 00:29 #1319793Just watched the race again on You Tube and thought that Capri was given an easy ride he never looked like making a move at any point in the race and seemed to be eased at the finish.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see him step up to the 2 miles in three weeks time at Ascot and take the Qipco Long Distance Cup.
I didn’t back him but surely every horse can be excused one bad run and you just have to look at his form to see he wasn’t himself today, he’s got more to come and losses will soon be regained..Jac
