There’s no question that this race isn’t as high profile as it used to be, but doesn’t stop me trying to crack it, despite my wretched record in it.

Very definitely not a race for me to go mad in, but there are a few catching the eye…….
Mixboy is a horse I really like from my local yard, and his flat campaign has really caught my attention. This is a horse who looked decent over fences last year, and led the field for a long way in The Close Brothers Novices at The Cheltenham Festival. I thought he’d be a dark horse for The BetVictor Gold Cup, but instead we find him here. 2 recent wins on the level, more than hinted of more to come, and it’s a shame, but he just might struggle to get in here. 16’s is a cracking price if he did.
Minotaur is a horse who hasn’t really got it together on the flat, and this isn’t a race that I’d look for a JP/Jonjo plot, but still, from what we’ve seen of him over timber, you can’t rule him out with too much confidence. He doesn’t though, look like one I’d want to play Ante-Post, as he was subject of some support for The Northumberland Plate, but didn’t appear in the Final Decs. 25’s would be big if he did appear.
I was a bit disappointed by Euchen Glen in The Cesarewitch, but I prefer to look at his runs at Ascot and York this year as true indicator of his ability. I can overlook that Newmarket run, as nobody would have beaten the winner that day, and he does make each way appeal here at 20’s.
The trip would be a step into the unknown for Chelsea Lad, but his run in The Cambridgeshire suggested to me that it wouldn’t be beyond him. He wasn’t far behind his stablemate that day, so despite the classier types in the yard, Meade has shown he’s not shy of targetting a big handicap too. Chelsea hasn’t quite delivered on his early promise, and he’s certainly never had a penny of mine on him, but I’m willing to take a chance that Saturday will be the day. Happy to have him on the nose at 16’s, though no idea how certain he is to trap.
I want to add Euchen Glen, but if I’m going to have him each way, I might just wait him out till the extra places are available after Final Decs, and hope that his price more or less holds.
Chelsea Lad Win 16’s
November 6, 2017 at 20:40 #1325496I will be there Saturday Bobby so I am very interested in this race.
At first glance the two that catch my eye are SAUNTER of Ian Williams who will like the ground and ran well to be second to Torcello last time out.
And AZARI who done me a right favour at Haydock in a ladies race and has ran in two good handicaps the last twice over the wrong trip which could be a ply to get a pound or so off its back.
Obviously will have a better look closer to race time but these two could be my picks if they both turn up.
Your pick Chelsea Lad will go close if it gets the trip which I am not convinced of to be honest.
Good Luck
November 7, 2017 at 00:08 #1325542Enjoy yourself Saturday Raymo, and good luck with Saunter, had a good look at him.
November 8, 2017 at 19:02 #1325810Royal Line gags up, no further analysis is necessary
November 9, 2017 at 13:23 #1325922Had an end of season go with Niblawi here E/W @ 20’s
Backed him on King George day at a big price and looked all over the winner on Soft ground. In the end he finished 2nd beaten 1 L to a now 94 rated horse giving him nearly a stone.
Runs off 92 here with a 7 lb claimer on board. Been off since 7th September and hopefully been aimed at this race for Tony Bloom.
November 9, 2017 at 14:13 #1325923Im with niblawi also, dont think its as much of a plot job as withhold, but it definitely looks like its been targeted for this race 20s on the exchanges for me
Sepal at 33/1 e/w also
November 9, 2017 at 15:21 #1325926For any Towerland Park fans here was Michael Bell’s assessment of the horse in the previous stable tour…
TOWERLANDS PARK
4 b c Danehill Dancer – Strategy
Winner of two of his 4 starts and currently rated 91. Scored by a length from Coillte Cailin off a mark of 83 on his only start last season at Kempton (1m 3f) in December.
“He is a horse we like a lot and he is just on the easy list at the moment. When he is on song he is a high class horse over a mile and a quarter to a mile and a halfNovember 9, 2017 at 15:34 #1325928Just spotted this thread.
It was hard to get away from the unexposed Gosden horse here. My one concern is if he would be better at a mile six. He seemed to me that he could go off 5/1.
The other horse with scope is Towerlands Park. He’s so lightly raced that he could have more improvement to come. The concern is why he hasn’t raced more and if he may bounce.
I took Royal Line at 8/1 and Towerlands Park as the saver/alternative hybrid at 10/1.
Always a tricky race though. Good luck
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
November 9, 2017 at 15:40 #1325930Saunter and Towerlands Park for me, pair of decent 4 year olds off feasible marks for the race.
November 9, 2017 at 18:39 #1325962Happy to stick with Chelsea Lad as the main bet, but I’ve also had smaller EW Bet with 6 Places available on Euchen Glen at 16’s.
November 9, 2017 at 21:13 #1325998My two have middle draws in 12 and 13, so I may try a combined tricast with Saunter, who is in stall 14.
I think the bigger field will help Royal Line here, opposed to the three runner affair last time. I am pretty confident he will go close here.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
November 10, 2017 at 09:31 #1326045chelsea lad 16/1 euchen glen 20/1 both e w 6 places
November 10, 2017 at 11:52 #1326058very hard race I think Cohesion could out run his odds of 25s(ew)
November 10, 2017 at 15:02 #1326082I really think Sir Chauvelin is going to run a cracker under Danny Tudhope. He’s been running over trips too short (Camebridgeshire) or too far (Northumberland Plate) all season and arrives on a 2 pound lower mark than when chasing home Chemical Charge at Musselburgh in July. He’ll have ground more to his liking than when disappointing on unseasonably quick ground in this last year and is trained by the Scottish maestro that is Jim Goldie.
He’s worth an outsiders punt at 25/1.
November 10, 2017 at 16:50 #1326106Locked in Royal cert- hope the price doesn’t collapse too much as haven’t taken a price. 50 on it

I think you might regret not taking a price on that horse Judge.
November 10, 2017 at 17:48 #1326116Tbh with you mate when I went down tbe bookies in the morning to place a bet I would have had to ask them to ring up and couldn’t be arsed. Should have taken 9-1 earlier in the week anyway.
Btw we had all this debate about whether or not it’s worth taking a price on the horse racing forum- tends to be the case that most horses drift.
