A lot of love for Tiger Roll here, but I’m going to go against the trends and back the top weight Lord Scoundrel. A couple of online bookmakers are offering 6 places and that’s good enough for me at 40/1. A mark of 156 might not prove beyond him as the horse fell 2 out off a pound lower mark in the Kerry National when looking nailed on for at least 3rd and staying on dourly; I feel he has a good chance of getting a place. From a win perspective Fletcher’s Flyer was impressive at Punchestown last year and this has been the plan for the past 12 months.
Just one of the things that I’ve taken interest in: Have we noticed that Dedigout at the age of 11 makes his handicap chase debut? And can anyone remember a similar scenario in recent years?
April 17, 2017 at 11:53 #1297130Not sure how the system works in Ireland but do the reserves still have an option to run?
April 17, 2017 at 12:21 #1297137BackedRaz demaree who has been strong in previous races like this.
Abolitionist and bless the wings seemed strong. Tiger roll has a different jockey from the previous one oneill that the horse clicked with.
Noble endeavour also seems a strong horse.A lot of the favourite horses don’t seem to have enough experience at 3 1/2 mile races.
April 17, 2017 at 13:07 #1297142I’m going with 4 for this one:
Haymount EW
Bless The Wings EW
Foxrock EW
Bonny Kate EWAnd a very small bet on Alpha Des Obeaux
Good lucky to everybody!
April 17, 2017 at 14:04 #1297151Considering the amount of money lost on Alpha De Obeaux by a few at Cheltenhan I’m surprised not to hear him mentioned until now.
April 17, 2017 at 16:40 #1297169Stellar Notion
Wounded Warrior
The Game ChangerGood luck, all
April 17, 2017 at 16:47 #1297171Oscar knight here for me,slips in at the bottom of the weights and form of his run in the Paddy Power puts him bang there.
April 17, 2017 at 16:59 #1297175Foxrock 20/1
General Principle 16/1 & 20/1
Bless The Wings 16/1Looks a cracker, best of luck
April 17, 2017 at 17:13 #1297176Fav won it like if it was a cakewalk. Impressive.

No one likes a cliff horse
April 17, 2017 at 17:21 #1297180Wow, that hammered them. Wouldn’t look out of place in Gold Cup field next year on that sort of run. What a season for Jessie & Robbie Power.
April 17, 2017 at 17:44 #1297183Mine where
2nd
5th
7th
(no harm done EW 6pl 1/5)Well Done to Andy Holding who tipped
1st & 3rdThe 2,450 Trifect didn’t look impossible with a few iterations.
GREAT RACE!
April 17, 2017 at 19:14 #1297196An absolutely stunning performance from Our Duke, surely one of the top two or three Irish National efforts since Desert Orchid.
Despite Robbie Power losing his head and going for home too soon, Our Duke was still far too good for the deep closers. If you look at where fellow prominent racer Fletcher’s Flyer finished, you get some measure of the winner’s brilliance. Coral and Ladbrokes go 12/1 Our Duke for the Gold Cup and you’d have to say that’s a carrot being dangled.
April 17, 2017 at 19:46 #1297204Agreed a magnificent performance there and really has no faults as a staying chaser. More glory surely awaits.
April 17, 2017 at 19:53 #1297208I would be very cautious about taking a price for the Gold Cup. It was impressive for sure however, many were saying similar about Native River after the Welsh National and you would be hard pushed to say Our Duke’s performance was much better.
April 17, 2017 at 20:01 #1297209Well done to Red Rum, who I think is the only one on here that bet the winner.
Our Duke certainly looks the business, it will be interesting to see where he is being
aimed at next year, the world’s his oyster by the look of it. General Principle
and Bless The Wings saw me okay, but one thing is for certain, if it doesn’t come up
soft next year in the National, Foxrock can stay in his box. He didn’t look comfortable
and was rightly pulled up well before the end, he needs it soft.I think a lot of us did well enough with the placed horses, so all in all it was a good
Irish NationalApril 17, 2017 at 20:46 #1297213actually I also bet the winner, it was a very rare winner for me
