The big sprints are coming up thick and fast, and you could easily lose track of them, I’m having to be very careful, as there are old favourites and notebook horses entered up in the lot of them.

The one horse I did want to see get an entry for this race in particular was Squats. Looks bang out of form, but at 25’s, he looks worth chancing given his form at the track last term. As well as being runner up in this he had 2 fine runs at the track later in the year. His mark rose accordingly, but after a couple of dire runs this term, the handicapper has dropped him a couple of pounds. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see him bounce back here.
Jim Goldie doesn’t seem to have as many big names these days, I used to love a few quid on his raiders down south, but I do have an eye on Nicholas T at 40’s. He flopped at Hamilton this afternoon, but it really has chucked it down here today, and I’d be wary of the Soft description given. If I could put todays run down to the going, then I can see some more improvement in him, and even off of his low mark, I can see him sneaking. Don’t have to rush in with him as his price is hardly likely to collapse any time soon, certainly not after todays effort, but I’ll keep him in mind around the 40’s.
Squats for me then, and if not Nick T, then I will be certainly be adding another in this.
Squats 25-1 ew (Hills)
July 24, 2017 at 08:19 #1311232My biggest bet of last season was in this race and it was Remarkable who took my dough. He was only out on Saturday there and did not run too badly. I have taken a risk, and went for him again at 25-1. It would not surprise me to see him not declared today though.
I have also bet Heavens Guest at 33-1 as I think that is an incredibly generous price for the horse.
Both horses are each way
July 24, 2017 at 17:42 #1311276On Heavens Guest E/W @ 33’s & 25’s also.
Hoping for Connor Murtagh to be booked for the ride taking off another 7 lbs, he had an outing on him at Bath for the first time a couple of runs back. He was really well backed for the race 2 years ago when he won and hoping for a punt developing on him this year.
July 25, 2017 at 14:36 #1311334I agree that Heaven’s Guest looks attractively priced but you have to remember that when he won this 2 year’s ago he had already won twice that season and went into the race off the back of a 3rd placed finish in the Bunbury Cup. He has shown absolutely nothing this year and that’s why you’re getting the price. I’m far from saying that he can’t win, I’d be an idiot to do so, but rather I’m just pointing out the difference in how the horse’s preparation has gone.
I’ve backed 2 in this so far: Firmament at 25/1 and War Glory at 40/1. If Firmament can reproduce his form from last back-end it’ll certainly be good enough to have him right up there at the finish and has probably just been flying a bit too high at Group level his past 2 starts after a couple of really good runs in the spring. Peslier has been booked and that has to look promising. War Glory ran much better than his finishing position suggests at Newmarket and with Hollie Doyle on board claiming 3 he looks optimistically weighted and overpriced for a horse I’ve long thought has a big run in him at this level.
July 27, 2017 at 14:37 #1311491Squats was available during the week, and still is available at 33’s, but didn’t bother topping up, as if he makes the frame I will be happy enough.
Nicholas T makes it after all, and in a week where the trainer has retired his old stalwart, Hawkeyethenoo, it would be great to see him have a new star on his hands. Should have won last week at Ayr, and as long as the heavens don’t open, then he still makes plenty of appeal at 40’s. I’ve bet him win only so far, as waiting to see if any place enhancements on offer.
I’m determined that one of my “cliff” horses, Big Time, doesn’t end up as costing me too much without ever getting his head in front, and after his run in Ireland last week, he’s hard to recommend. Being very careful, and it’ll be win only on him to make a small profit at 25’s, win only.
July 27, 2017 at 19:29 #1311530Nail on the head there VtC!
I’m on Squats, luckily nabbed the 33s WilliamHill were offering this afternoon.
Adam Kirby jocked up has 100% (3 for 3) with Haggas this year.
He’s versatile ground wise, 2lbs wrong on official figures but well capable of banging this in if he can find his form again.Big concern is his lack of interest since starting back this season.
Still, 33/1 is a price worth paying at his beloved Ascot. I say beloved, he’s won there once. But placed 7/11 races there.Would have been 7/9 without this years terrible form

Looking forward to finding out though

Good luck folks!
July 28, 2017 at 01:38 #1311554Good luck with the 33’s Nulty, it really is a smashing price, and though on this seasons form he deserves to be a 33-1 shot, it wouldn’t surprise me to see a revival here.
July 28, 2017 at 09:04 #1311571Very impressed with the way Above The Rest came through to win the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket a couple of weeks back, beating some decent horses, so no reason to believe he won’t hang onto that form for Saturday and win again and he does go well on the ground.
Flaming Spear was a declared a non runner in the same race and reports for him were good so he would be my each way bet.
Good luck all.
Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 28, 2017 at 09:59 #1311575Am on two big prices so far in this BURNT SUGAR at 40/1 and TOP SCORE at 33/1. I do fancy fastnet but it it not my kind of price!!
July 28, 2017 at 10:32 #1311577Withernsa @ 25/1
July 28, 2017 at 14:13 #1311600I have to back Flaming Spear also for this. Hopefully i get a bit more than 10’s somewhere, but if not that will have to do. Backed him at a big price for the Bunbury Cup only to be withdrawn a couple of hours before the race, which was a real sickener

Also backed him AP for the Mile race at Goodwood which looks doubtful now as well. So no option really, as it will save me having to go and buy a new TV on Saturday afternoon if he were to win and i never backed him.

Quite happy with Heavens Guest still though. The trainer has mentioned he has had a wind op after his last run but may not be well enough to run well in this 150K race, yeah right Mr. Fahey, i believe you
July 28, 2017 at 21:03 #131163337s on mijack and 16s on viscount barfield for me
Will be laying if anything gets backed under 7/1
July 28, 2017 at 21:32 #1311636How will the draw work? Does anyone know?
High or lowJuly 28, 2017 at 21:39 #1311640This isn’t my type of race at all to bet in but I’ve stuck Fawaareq in a multiple at 14s
July 29, 2017 at 10:36 #1311717Agree with you MOM am on Fawaareq at 25/1 few days ago suprise see price get shorter since then
July 29, 2017 at 11:12 #1311733No idea what the draw will be unfortunately and have got a bit ahead of myself and backed 4 in this.
Firmament (25/1), Makzeem (8/1), Mount Tahan (40/1) & Fawaareq (14/1).
Still think Firmament can be competitive off top weight and Makzeem is thrown in and on a rail. Like a few of you chaps I’m a fan of Fawaareq and feel he could be the real improver in the race and Mount Tahan could go close on his top form.
Hopefully one of us will get the winner!
July 29, 2017 at 13:01 #1311769Gossiping out to 16’s which will do nicely
