Was either of those even half as wide as the course steered by Geraghty on Yanworth? And he didn’t hunt Hurricane Fly around the outside all the way through those races, either- he simply switched wide to make his challenge. Huge difference.

Yesterday remind me of binocular the season he won the champion hurdle.
Binocular had injury problems and an interrupted season and hendo managed to get him for enough for the kingwell, which is a similar scenario to yanworth.
Binocular wasn’t 100% fit but won by 1 length in workmanlike fashion, just like yanworth yesterday. But he came on bundles for the run and won the champion hurdle.
Can see the same happening with yanworth

Was the Contenders Hurdle, not the Kingwell. It was the year he had the “MOT” over in Ireland after disappointing at Sandown.

I like Yanworth, I took a chance on him before Annie Power and Faugheen came out at about the same price he is now…..
A cleaner round of jumping would help his cause and that would be my main worry. The distance would be a very slight worry but that is countered by the course and the pace they run at. I’m hopeful the pace will tidy his jumping up.

Yorkhill travelled the better of the two though.. he was the deserved winner.. of course it could well be that yorkhill/altior are a cut above what yanworth has to take on here anyway…

Can’t see anyone mentioning that Yanworth wasn’t even 100% and he still managed to out-battle them in a final furlong fight.

1 more thing not mentioned: the Champion Hurdle is over a furlong further than the Kingwell…

The problem is that Alan King isn’t Nicky Henderson. Yanworth would be a short-priced (maybe even odds-on) favourite if he were trained by Henderson or Mullins.

But you have to remember this is a trial for the Champion Hurdle. I can’t imagine any of the top 3 were 100%, why would they have been? Any trainer worth his salt will have left something to work on for the big day.

The 90% fit comment is a big fat red herring in my view.

Also Charles, how big a deal is that? In 2005 Inglis Drever won this (Kingwell) on good to soft ground on his way to winning the Stayers.

Puts the track not suiting him comment into some sort of perspective :good:

If I owned Yanworth he would be following Inglis Drevers route and going to the Stayers Hurdle. I love the horse, but I see him being tapped for toe before staying on for a place. I honestly believe he would win the stayers hurdle but can only assume Barry thinks UKWIMH is better. I don’t, but some might say he is better placed to judge than I am… ;-)

To change plan this close to the festival would surely be the wrong choice.

I notice he’s nice and blue on oddschecker today.

The penny may have finally dropped to punters that he’s the winner

    I should of cashed out.

Like another poster i was very surprised at the enthusiasm and shortening in price for PM after the last run. Made no sense. Strictly on formbook through Footpad it was a lesser run than the previous and yet he had been hailed as the second coming Not only that the excuse that he “idled in front” is hardly going to boost CH credentials is it?

Yanworth really isn’t going to be carrying much cash from many here is he? I’ll make 4 predictions: Yanworth will run in the Champion Hurdle, Barry Gerraghty will ride Yanworth in the Champion Hurdle, Yanworth will start favourite for the Champion Hurdle and Yanworth will win the Champion Hurdle.

But I banged my drum all of last season about how Min would win the Supreme and was made to look a muppet, maybe Yanworth will get done for toe between the last two, finish 3rd and I’ll get an invite to appear on Sesame Street
