Well I’d all but given up hope of Apples Jade running in this, and it’s probably still
likely that she will head for the Mares’ Hurdle, but I’d love Gordon Elliot to have a
rethink and let her take her chance here. With no Annie Power or Faugheen I think she
would take this. I know Elliot said she wasn’t a CH horse, but I think that was a knee
jerk reaction after getting turned over at odds on at Down Royal. I think she just needed
the run and was beaten by race fit horse. Beaten a running on nose in the Fighting Fifth
next time out, suggests to me that with the pace this will get run at, and the tough finish
at Cheltenham, this just would suit he so much. I wouldn’t be scared of anything still
entered in this, and having bet her at 10/1, and then 33/1 when she drifted, I’m praying
that Elliot is having second thoughts.February 6, 2017 at 18:03 #1286179You won’t be far wrong, Graham. There’s plenty turbulence left in this market.
February 6, 2017 at 19:16 #1286201Completely agree Joe, and should make for an interesting few weeks.
February 6, 2017 at 22:08 #1286226I see Matt Chapman has put up a poll on twitter asking which race Douvan should run in
Champion Chase or Champion Hurdle…?
Would be mad to revert him back to hurdles this late in the day
Blackbeard to conquer the World
February 6, 2017 at 23:33 #1286231I really would not mind if Geraghty chooses BD over Yanworth. Happily take Richard Johnson, I think yanworth would appreciate a change of jockey/tactics

It might still be a bit of a long shot Joe, but I hope the turbulence you mention is enough to
rumble Elliot into giving her a place in this. She would have to have a great chance when you
think back to the way she demolished the field at Aintree and then followed it up in the
Champion 4 Year Old Hurdle at Punchestown. It’s not as if the Gigginstown boys are six
handed, they have a very decent chance with Petit Mouchoir, but it wouldn’t hurt to have
a second string to their bow, and she’s also the only entry Elliot has in this. Surely he
would rather train a Champion Hurdle winner than a Mares Hurdle winner.February 7, 2017 at 10:45 #1286252Happily take Richard Johnson
What’s wrong with Wayne Hutchinson? He is Alan King’s stable jockey, after all. I agree, incidentally, that Yanworth would benefit from a change of rider.
February 7, 2017 at 11:31 #1286260Happily take Wayne aswell. Just see Johnson ride a lot for JP when Geraghty isn’t about
February 7, 2017 at 11:51 #1286266Yorkhill will run here IMO. It’s a no brainer when you think about it.
February 7, 2017 at 12:47 #1286271Surely Ricci will want to have a runner here and the only option looks to be Vroum Vroum. There’s no chance she can win it if she runs like she did at Doncaster though. Would Willie put Yorkhill and her into the race? It’s doubtful I’d say but surely he will run one of them.
He may not be as popular a selection with the set back and the fact Buveur D’Air has been switched in but I still like Yanworth. I just hope he ends up here and as Jasolong has stated I wouldn’t mind a different jockey on board either. I don’t think he was given the best ride last year and Yorkhill was defiantly given a better ride so I think Yanworth would have been closer. I think Yorkhill is a bit quirky and definitely not unbeatable.
Still got an antepost ticket on
Apples Jade aswel so like BigG I’ll still cling to that little glimmer of hope on that one tooFebruary 7, 2017 at 13:12 #1286273I agree, I’d like Johnson in particular to give it an aggressive ride from the front – but in the WH not the CH. I think he beats UKWIMH. Wouldn’t be the first or last time a JP second string wins at the festival…
Don’t think he has the speed for the CH and would get left behind down the back before staying on for a place.
February 7, 2017 at 14:22 #1286282Apple’s Jade goes for the Mares’.
February 7, 2017 at 14:29 #1286284Yeah I’m aware that’s the plan Zarkava but until she actually runs in that race I’ll cling to a slight bit of hope like anyone else who had a bet on her would. Vautour was only ever going gold cup last year and we saw what happened with that.
February 7, 2017 at 14:31 #1286286Apple’s Jade goes for the Mares’.
I kind of expected that Zark. I haven’t seen any update on where he was going recently,
was it Elliot that broke the news or did it come from Gigginstown?February 7, 2017 at 14:38 #1286288Was in the RP this morning. Saw a picture on Twitter. I think it was a Gigginstown quote.
February 7, 2017 at 14:49 #1286290Thanks Zark, I didn’t get a RP today.
February 7, 2017 at 15:48 #1286300Just watched the Christmas hurdle again and I don’t think that 2 miles is the problem for him. I think 2 miles round Cheltenham is perfect for him.
I think the problem is his jumping.
He was pathetic in the Christmas hurdle, out jumped at every hurdle and still wins convincingly.
Forget the 2 mile trip just get him jumping fairly well and he will win the champion hurdle -
