Wouldn’t argue with that result Joliff.
September 24, 2017 at 23:36 #1318837Raymo, tough tough race, and whoever lands the winner will be doing well, best of luck with yours, and let’s hope all of ours make it on the day, to at least boost our chances.
September 25, 2017 at 23:55 #1318898With the defection of Belgian Bill, I had a few quid ew on Breden 5 places 100’s, and win 125’s. Won nicely last week, and I was always going to have 3 in this, so thought I’d add another AP, and those odds were too good to refuse. He needs 9 to come out, which seems unlikely, but I had to take a chance. If he doesn’t sneak in, I’ll definitely want 3 in this, and from original post, I’m still looking at Isomer, and Battle of Marathon.
I’m left with Bravery & Dolphin Vista from original trio, and just a bit surprised that their prices have held. Doing a raindance for Dolphin, but not too much rain forecast this week.
September 26, 2017 at 16:30 #1318954With a firmer idea of who’ll actually rock up on Saturday and being dismayed that Bronze Angel won’t be running for whatever reason I’ve had a couple of bets at juicy prices on Linguistic at 25/1 and Battle Of Marathon at 50/1.
Linguistic was down to run in the handicap won by Brorocco at Newbury but bypassed that engagement for this which has to be positive. James Doyle gets the leg-up and this colt has a quality record when fresh. As Raymo has already said he’ll be having his first run since splitting Absolute Blast and Sovereign debt at Kempton in May and he seems fairly weighted to my mind. Battle Of Marathon finally showed a sign of life last time out when 4th to Kryptos and Doncaster and he’s now down to a mark of 97. He’s very well weighted when you see that Jack Osborn has been employed to claim 7 pounds and this after all is a horse that finished 5th in a Lincoln off a mark of 110.
I also quite like the chances of Greenside and Leader Writer but I’ll wait until final decs and the draw before getting drawn in again.
September 26, 2017 at 19:12 #1318969Good luck Charles with Marathon. I wasn’t sure if he was too”left field” to put in the shortlist, but always liked him, and that last run was solid enough for me. With Breden unlikely to get in, and Dolphin unlikely to go, I might just be with you twice this weekend.

Very few of my ‘left field’ bets have ever paid off unfortunately. I think the last one was probably Golden Chieftain at the 2013 Cheltenham Festival. Nonetheless, I hope ol’Marathon will put up a bold show.
With the price collapsing I’ve had to be pro-active with Leader Writer and I’ve snapped up 20/1 with Paddy Power. I was obviously lying when I said I wouldn’t get involved again before final decs!
September 27, 2017 at 18:55 #1319047Well Euginio was not declared at 5 day staged unfortunately. He was also declared a non-runner in the race at Newmarket. Can anyone shed any light on why he was withdrawn on Saturday? I can’t seem to find any reason.
Eddystone Rock is still in there and Pat Dobbs is set to ride again. Not sure what to expect now but sticking with Eddystone Rock.
September 27, 2017 at 19:27 #1319051I can’t see past Thundering Blue for this he has an amazing turn of foot and hoping he gets drawn on the stands rail as he has a tendency to veer to the left when challenging for the lead.
I don’t think we have seen the best of this horse and think himself and Eddystone Rock will lock horns again, however my each way chance is going to be Very Talented.
Very Talented was third in this race last year to the brilliant Spark Plug and this is his first time back on a racecourse since then.
He has beaten Linguistic as a two year old and unlike Thundering Blue and Eddystone Rock he will be up with the pace so hopefully Pat Smullen will keep him out of trouble.
Good luck to everyone having a bet, love this race.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 28, 2017 at 14:31 #1319126Added a third one in this to go alongside El Hayem & Your Fired
Battle of Marathon E/W 8 places @ 40’s
September 28, 2017 at 17:34 #1319140I won’t believe Dophin Vista is actually running till his nose, erm, touches the tape, but happy to see him declared anyway, and I’ve topped up him and Bravery to the 8 places.
With Breden balloted out, that cash, as planned, will got the way of Battle of Marathon, 40’s the 8 Places.
Headache horses for me are Nicholas T, and GM Hopkins. This is one of 6 Flat Races where I have bigger limit, and I haven’t reached it yet. Very tempted to have a saver on GM Hopkins at the 25’s, and I’ve just talked myself into just that win only.
September 28, 2017 at 21:20 #1319175I am happy that Eddystone Rock has been declared, but less happy that his price has not dropped. I have taken one more and it is Big Country at 12-1 with Corals + he will be win only
September 29, 2017 at 11:51 #1319235Linguistic for me (ew) as well
September 29, 2017 at 12:43 #1319251Thundering blue in this is my bet
September 29, 2017 at 14:04 #1319265The concern for me with Linguistic is the lack of handicap experience and particularly in a field as huge as this.
Yet to run in a handicap, it is hard to know how well handicapped he is. He ran in the Dee Stakes last year, hinting at being well regarded. Gelded and made a satisfactory come back in April, the absence since is a concern but the trainer will surely attract support for his lightly raced unknown quantity.
Too many questions for me but you can see why he will have plenty followers.
I can’t back at 7/1 in a handicap this size, so I have picked Brorocco at double those odds, as my second dart. Drawn 33 but the 1-2 last year were drawn 28 and 35.
Brorocco has run well a few times this season and picked up well to win last time. He should be a solid each-way but win only for me, with Big Country at 16/1.
Big Country 16/1
Brorocco 14/1Good luck in the annual minefield.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 29, 2017 at 20:15 #1319318Sinfonietta, trained by David Menuisier, has run just twice in fields of 20 + finishing 2nd and 3rd. That 3rd place was in the Irish Cambridgeshire a month ago and this one looks big to me EW at 50/1 with Coral.
Will like the ground too and Rosie Jessop’s claim puts him at the bottom of the weights.
September 29, 2017 at 22:25 #1319326I’ve added Novoman and Chelsea Lad to my final list and chucked a free bet Paddy Power gave me on El Hayem. I’m all over this race like a rash now and it’ll be a heavy one if I don’t have anything in the frame but I love these races and you have to back 4 just to give yourself a chance! I was really impressed with Novoman last time out and he’s a horse I’ve always felt a lot of. This is my last chance on Chelsea Lad. I fully believe he has a race like this in him but I’m running out of patience. Maybe this will be his day.
Bets:
Linguistic 25/1
Battle Of Marathon 50/1 each-way
Leader Writer 20/1
Chelsea Lad 16/1
Novoman 20/1
El Hayem 16/1 FREE BETBest of luck all, it looks a real cracker.
September 30, 2017 at 07:25 #1319376I’m on Linguistic at 20/1 to win and 18/1 each way 7 places.
Really keen on him
