Any big winning margins in heavy ground should be taken with a large dose of caution – we know he revels in those conditions especially at the track but away from that and he has been found wanting at the top table – will be interesting if they go to the KG, because even though he won it by miles that will have taken an awful lot out of him.
If he does go to Kempton that will likely give us a truer reflection of where he stands re a Gold Cup and I think a major issue with him will be how he jumps on quicker ground at a faster pace, especially if not meeting a fence on a good stride.

Almost speechless Graham…Who knows what he could achieve now, hold right to those Triple Crown receipts.
We’ll done to all Bristol De Mai supporters .
So pleased to see Cue Card get round safely and think he really does deserve a safe and happy retirement.. JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 25, 2017 at 15:32 #1328608ITV pundits seem to agree nothing ran its race bar BDM. Tizz then says CC ran to a pound with Tea For Two.
Some dangerous assumptions being quickly made here.
November 25, 2017 at 15:35 #1328612Grim to watch Cue Card on and off the bridle so early and crawl home like a plater. I’m not aftertiming in saying they should have finished him after Wetherby and most definitely should now.
No way, they’ll keep on with him right until March. The KG is next and then they’ll go for the RyanAir.
I’m not so sure that connections know when to call it a day. They’ve had a few chances to do so, but I think they might want to finish the season with him in March or even in April.
You know what? Sire De Grugy might be even retired before Cue Card.
November 25, 2017 at 15:38 #1328613Oh, well done all BDM supporters. Never really in doubt.
November 25, 2017 at 15:38 #1328614Tea For Two barely made it over the last (left his back legs in the fence) and at that trip on that ground it was too much of a stamina test for him – Tizzard was just wrong because the distance between the two in last years KG & Betfair Bowl 0.25L and neck rather than this race which was over 9L.

Wishful thinking by Tizz I think Joe. Sadly not anywhere near the horse he was, although I’d still like one last try at Kempton and tell the jockey to go from the front.
Value Is EverythingNovember 25, 2017 at 15:47 #1328618139-rated Chase The Spud has just ran the same distance as BDM 14-seconds slower. Presumably BDM will get a time-figure in the mid 180s?
Also worth noting that, as per Simon Rowlands, he would have finished second in the big one.
November 25, 2017 at 15:49 #1328621What is all this retirement talk for cue card? Its not like the horse is floundering out the back all the time. There are useless 10/11/12/13 year olds running in terrible races all over the UK and Ireland everyday and no clamor for all them to be retired? This horse is still performing at a 160+ level consistently over the last 12 months and has just come second in a grade one on terrible ground behind a fast improving winner who loves the ground and course.
No mention of people wanting sire de grugy retired for example. When cue card stops showing an interest and is unable to perform at the top then he should be retired, but not yet
November 25, 2017 at 16:58 #1328638Churning out 160 performances is one thing, but shouldn’t the horses’ welfare come first? 3 high profile, heavy duty falls in not a huge space of time have given reminders of the perils of the game. Will he be so lucky next time? Why should anyone wait to find out? As I said earlier in the thread, he’s been there and done it all, with the possible exception of a Gold Cup. Even connections would be big enough to admit that the dizzy heights of those days are over. There is literally nothing else to prove or to win with him. Let him retire a healthy horse.

10.5 seconds according to Racing Post, Degaussed.
Although a handicap, Chase The Spud ran off 139 and the same 11-7 as Betfair horses.Bristol De Mai is worth giving credit for an improved performance, but not that much – it was no 180.
Other placed horses massively below their ratings, I’m talking at least 30 lbs and probably much more – 40+. Outlander and Tea For Two failing to stay, Cue Card nowhere near his best either. Turned in to a one horse race.Value Is EverythingNovember 25, 2017 at 17:16 #1328643Cue Card is a racehorse. Tizzards will know if and when the time comes.
Value Is EverythingNovember 25, 2017 at 17:20 #1328645Has anybody in the “Retire Cue Card” camp ever actually kept a “retired” horse? Many, if not most, retired racehorses are un-rideable for all bar decent horsemen. Unless they have a second career as a hunter or team chaser, or at the very least are regularly ridden, life in a field is often pretty miserable, boring and often lonely. Sad to say, many horses not ‘earning their corn’ want for the farrier and the vet, and extra feed in winter.
Just sayin’
November 25, 2017 at 17:27 #1328646I expected it to be BDMs day today but I couldn’t have him for the Gold Cup unless it was heavy and the race cut up badly.
He loves Haydock, Jacob rides Haydock like a dream. Getting into a rhythm is easy, the fences are well spaced, a far cry from Cheltenham. ( Jacob 58% over Haydock fences, just 7% at Cheltenham )
He’s been awarded an RPR of 185 for that Haydock win, allowed to dominate against a small field of inconsistent types.
November 25, 2017 at 17:40 #1328649By your logic then any horse who has 3 falls over a 19 Month period should be retired?
November 25, 2017 at 17:50 #1328651I’m not having this at all. Just had a long twitter debate with Dan Barber over it. So, from much of what I’ve seen here and on social media, tonight’s racing headline should actually be: Lots of Good Horses Bar One Run Very Poorly
Really, is this what racing wants to be? Have you ever seen anything like that in a Grade One? Ever? Does it matter that BDM was better suited to the conditions than anything else? Why does this mean everything else was 35lbs below ‘normal’ form? Why wasn’t BDM 35lbs above ‘normal form’? I get it from a historical handicapping viewpoint, but when a sport cannot glorify a performance never seen from the likes of Arkle, Kauto Star, Denman, Sprinter, whoever you care to name. When we cannot celebrate a victory like that because every horse in the race MUST be given a pass, no wonder we struggle to gain fans.
It’s not as if BDM was quickly fitted with a hovercraft skirt or something before he jumped off. He was equipped exactly the same as his rivals. The reason they all looked second raters was BDM. Had he not been there, everything would suddenly have run its race. They were not amiss. They did not all have a bad day at the office. They were exhausted because of the pace he set.
This beautiful big six-year-old grey horse just waltzed home by FIFTY-SEVEN LENGTHS in a Grade One and much of what I hear from veteran racing fans is carping. Seriously?
It’s utterly ridiculous . . . To the point of being shameful.

Erm, I’m not entirely sure I said that. Do you often read what you only want to see and ignore the other points raised?
